There were no traps around the doorway, so they went into the room. Maki looked around. There was trash everywhere, but nobody to be seen. There wasn't enough trash to hide in - unless there was somebody around here who was her size, but she seriously doubted it - and none of the sparse furnishings were suitable for hiding places. It just looked like somebody trashed the place and then left.

But she knew there was someone in here. Now where were they? Maki's eyes went to the ceiling...

Oh, for fuck's sake.

Frowning, the mollusk shuffled closer to Dovahkiin's head. "Look up," she whispered. There was a covering up there that mimicked the ceiling, plastered to the real surface. It was detailed, with signs of wear and tear, many years of aging and dirt. It would've been pretty convincing, if she hadn't seen the human-shaped lump that was stretched out behind it.

Who the hell did they think they were? A ninja? Camouflage wasn't camouflage if someone could see your outline!

Dovahkiin
© Jessica // CURRENTLY Offline

Dovahkiin wrinkled his nose, looking around the room. He wasn't the type of person who needed some place luxuriously to live. Hell, he spent a lot of time sleeping outside. In the dirt. Sometimes, near mudcrabs. But, this place was a mess. He would never subject himself to staying in a place like this. It would pretty much be a mercy to anyone who stumbled upon this place, looking for a place to stay. If the building was capable of speech, it would probably thank him for putting it out of its misery.

When Maki told him to look up, Dovahkiin glanced up from underneath his helmet. Immediately, he snorted.

What the hell was he looking at? Was this guy serious?

Dovahkiin let out a soft sigh before he turned his sword around, catching it by the blade. He was careful enough with it that he didn't cut himself in the process. Then, without making a noise at all, he jabbed the hilt of his blade into where the hidden person's stomach should have been and stepped out of the way so they could fall.

Which they did.

Predictably.

Maki might've just left the guy here to get himself killed on his own... nah, that was a lie. She would've beaten the shit out of him first for wasting both hers and Dovahkiin's time. Crossing her arms, she watched as Dovahkiin used his sword's hilt to jab the guy in the stomach, causing him to fall.

She had no sympathy as he crashed into the floor in front of them with a muffled yelp of pain. The pile of fake ceiling was still for a moment, then it moved as the person under it flailed around, trying to find a way out.

He succeeded and stared at them, bewildered. Maki wanted to punch the idiot.

"So ya think you're a ninja, huh," she growled. This guy - this teenager - was actually dressed like a ninja. Not one of the Konoha ninjas, but like a stereotypical ninja straight out of a movie. Maki couldn't believe this guy actually went all the way out here, in the middle of fucking nowhere, to play ninja. Do human teenagers not have any sense of self-preservation?

Dovahkiin

Dovahkiin stared down at the kid who had fallen before them. Apparently, he was supposed to be a ninja. Dovahkiin's only experience with ninjas involved those that came from the village of Konoha, where he didn't go all too often. He did meet them on occasion outside of the village, and they were nothing like this boy.

This boy looked foolish. Did he not understand that? Dovahkiin was not one to care too much about appearances - he had little need for dressing in anything that wasn't beneficial to him on the battlefield - but he still thought someone hinder their own case by dressing like a complete moron. Which was exactly what this boy was doing?

With a sigh, Dovahkiin pointed his sword under the boy's nose. All it would take was a split-second and he would be able to cut into the boy's face and kill him. He wasn't going to do that, though. Not yet, anyways.

"Boy, do your parents know you're out here making a mockery of their name?" Dovahkiin asked. That was something he wanted to know, if this boy knew he was besmirching the honour of his parents. Dovahkiin had no parents to speak of. That didn't mean he took lightly to the young doing something against their own, especially if there was no cause or reason to.

The teenager froze when he suddenly realized that there was an actual warrior pointing a real sword under his nose. It was like he had never seen a real sword up close before. Hah! Live in this world long enough, and even a snot-nosed human kid could see real swords, guns and every other kind of weapon that the Goddess had brought to her little pet project!

Well, he wasn't talking. Dovahkiin must've scared him into a stupor. He did have that effect on people. Not surprising. Didn't this guy eat dragon souls or something?

Two full minutes went by before the boy got the nerve to shake his head. "Dumbass," Maki replied dryly. "Get your ass killed out here, and they'll never find out what happened." Unless someone came by, found the body and looked for identification. Not many people explored Oerba, so there was a better chance that the corpse would get eaten by some random starving animal.

If they got past the monsters prowling the streets.

"What are we gonna do about this kid?" Maki then asked Dovahkiin. They could leave him here alone in this place, but she supposed that the responsible thing to do was escort him out of here. On foot. She sure wasn't going to drag him out of here and fly him back to his (probably worried by now) parents.

Dovahkiin scowled. He hoped the kid could see it. The boy hadn't given him an answer, which annoyed Dovahkiin. In Skyrim, it was courtesy to answer questions that were asked of you. If you refused, it often meant that you thought yourself better of the person who was asking of you. And, in Skyrim, that often meant you were asking for an axe to the face.

This guy was still just a child - at least, in how he acted, even if he may have been considered adult in years in Skyrim as Dovahkiin was sure he had been not much older than the boy when he had set off on his own, perhaps even a bit younger - and Dovahkiin couldn't rightly take an axe to his face.

Especially because he didn't have an axe on him at the moment. That was probably the number one reason.

Maki brought up an important problem. They couldn't just leave this kid here Could they? Nah, they couldn't. It would be irresponsible of them as the adults present, even if a part of Dovahkiin wanted to. The part of him that reminded him of his Companion duties - an annoyingly large part of him that it was - insisted that they escort the boy back.

"Get on your feet because if I have to carry you, you won't like it," Dovahkiin said. He sheathed his sword. He wouldn't need it anyways, if he had to crush this boy's windpipe. He could do it with his bare hands.

It looked like they were escorting this kid home. What a pain in the ass. Maki hoped that one day, he was going to look back at this moment and realize just how fucking lucky he was, running into them. He could've ended up dead here, just another human corpse in one of the many stupider places on this planet.

Wannabe ninja scrambled onto his feet. At least he was listening now. Maki wouldn't mind poking him with her sharp blade to get him going, but for now, she didn't have an excuse. He was actually moving.

"Leavin' through the front door, or back the way we came?" The front door meant that they wouldn't have to wait while this guy fumbled his way through a window and to the ground. But who knew just how many monsters were waiting for them at the front. Their goal was to get him out of here without getting him killed.

Dovahkiin

Dovahkiin wasn't the biggest fan of having to escort someone around, so he hoped this moron would be able to obey orders just fine when they were trying to navigate their way out of Oerba. Once they were out of the town limits, things would be a lot easier, but until then, they were going to need this guy to be as obedient as possible.

At least, he was getting to his feet when he was told. That was a start.

Dovahkiin took him by the scruff of the neck and hauled him out of the room. His destination was the way they had come because he didn't want to be the one who had to protect this kid in the group that had been waiting at the door of the house. It would have been too much effort to keep someone so defenseless and clueless when dealing with things that wanted to kill it. It was a little bit like protecting a baby lamb, but the baby lamb would grow up to be useful.

He released the kid when they entered the room. To Maki, he said, "I'll go out first. Then, you push him and I'll catch him." If the kid jumped on his own, he was likely to break his neck. His fall from the ceiling showed no reflexes.

"Heh. Works for me." When the kid looked like he was about to protest, Maki sent him a glare. "Don't ya even think of it, unless you want to stay here." Wannabe ninja apparently didn't want to stay here, because he promptly forgotten about saying anything to them. Good. Maki didn't have to sew his dumb mouth shut so she and Dovahkiin could have some peace and quiet on the road.

The mollusk hopped off of Dovahkiin's shoulder and flipped onto her shell, using controlled jets of water to hover in the air. "Ready when you are," Maki said, moving a bit closer to the window so she could see the ground. Once Dovahkiin was down there and ready to catch the kid, she was pushing him out. Hard.

But not too hard. Too hard would probably send him to the next house over. Dovahkiin would miss, the kid would die, and that would defeat the purpose of escorting him in the first place.

Dovahkiin's plan had been agreed to. Good. Dovahkiin didn't have a plan otherwise. He wasn't all that much of a planner. He was more of a doer, if that was a thing.

"Let's go, then," he said. He licked his lips - they were starting to get dry - as he made sure his sword was tightly secured at his waist. He didn't want to lose it when he climbed through the window, just in case there were Cie'th now hanging out in the yard of the house. He was sure he could kill them just as easily with his bare hands, but he didn't want to get any of their guts on his hands. Not when he was so close to having dinner time.

Dovahkiin heaved himself out of the window and landed with a light thud on the ground before. There was no one else in the yard with him.

He waited, trying to see if anything had noticed his appearance. Nothing had.

"Ready when you are," he called up. He didn't need to prepare himself, not for such a small scrawny kid.

Maki waited until Dovahkiin was down on the ground and had given the okay - he didn't take all that long - before she turned to the kid. "Stand here," she ordered, pointing directly in front of the window. "Look straight out." She also looked straight out through the window once he was beside her. Maki then pointed at something in the sky. "Ya see that thing way off over there?"

A nod. Either he could really see such a tiny speck, or he was lying because he didn't want to get pushed out the window. Maki didn't care which option it was.

"That's a Salamence. It's a stupid lookin' dragon Pokemon that probably eats stupid humans like you for breakfast. Ya listenin'?"

Another nod.

"Good." Maki zipped behind the wannabe ninja's back and slammed into it, knocking him right out the window. Predictably, he fell like a rock. "Now you're flying like one."

Dovahkiin

There was the briefest of moments where Dovahkiin stood in silence, looking upward, thinking that it would have been more amusing for him to simply stand out of the way and let the boy hit the ground. The downside was he was most likely going to crack his skull open and his brain matter would be all over the ground. Would that draw the Cie'th here like it would draw things like it would draw some of the beasts Dovahkiin was familiar with?

It probably wasn't the time for him to be testing any of those theories out.

The boy came flying out - Dovahkiin suppressed a laugh at the ridiculous sight he made - before Dovahkiin easily caught him mere feet away from the ground. He held him up to get a good look at him.

"Hircine's arse, he passed out," Dovahkiin said, incredulously. He sighed before tossing the boy onto his shoulder as easily as if he weighed nothing. He was a fairly scrawny boy; there wasn't much weight to him at all, as far as Dovahkiin was concerned.

"Maki, I have him, let's go," he called up. Not loud enough to attract attention. Just loud enough for her to be able to hear him speak despite being in the house above him.

Maki flew out through the window, made her way down and landed on Dovahkiin's free shoulder, swinging her shell forward so she was holding it in her hands. She paused to look over at their charge before making a face. "Passed out already? All he fucking did was fall." And it wasn't even that high of a distance! This guy was not going to do well in life.

Or maybe he would learn from this and grow up to be a competent human being.

Yeah, right.

Maki sat down, ready to shoot if she had to. She assumed that they were going to sneak out, but she was prepared in case something stupid happened along the way. "I'm ready. Let's get goin'." The sooner they got out of here, the sooner they could get this dumbass home.

There was a brief pause as Dovahkiin considered his options. If he walked out front towards the streets again, it was likely that they were going to have to fight their way through the Cie'th that were crowded at the front of the house. They were probably even going to attract even more Ciet'th from around the town to them.

Again, he didn't want to deal with dragging the boy around with him when he was dealing with that. Otherwise, it wouldn't have bothered him. But, he didn't want the boy to get killed.

Of course, he was currently unconscious. His death would be less painful this way.

Dovahkiin shook his head and headed for the fence in the backyard. He didn't bother climbing over it. Instead, he carefully broke down enough boards for him to fit through before he made his way into the next yard. He would travel this way. It was simply safer for his cargo that way.

Pft. Cargo.

He would make it out of Oerba eventually. They just needed some time.
