So, this was the Citadel.

When they had been on the train, Mei and Dorumon had talked about coming to see the Citadel together. It was the type of place that didn't exist in either one of their worlds, and it was definitely the type of place Mei would have liked to see.

And, now here they were.

Mostly, anyways. Mei had just gotten off of the transport that brought them up from the planet to the space station in question. There were all sorts of people moving around her, but no one jostled her. At least, not yet. There was still time for someone to be rude and push past her. She was a teenage girl, but she was also pretty small. It made her a primary target when it came down to being jostled.

"Dorumon?" she asked, looking over her shoulder. She had been focused on not tripping or messing up when she got out of the transport that she hadn't noticed if she lost Dorumon behind her or not.

Claws clicked on the smooth surface of the floor as Dorumon followed after Mei, his messenger bag swinging slightly with his movement.

The two of them had agreed to visit the Citadel. Neither of them had ever been in a place like this before and it was already surprising him. They had to ride something in order to leave the planet and get up here in space. During that trip, he realized just how huge the Citadel actually was. And the people! There were so many people here, all different kinds.

It was a lot to take in.

"I'm here!" he replied when Mei said his name, stepping forward so he was standing beside her. Dorumon looked up at her, his smile revealing his sharp teeth. "Where are we going first?"

Mei was glad that she hadn't accidentally lost Dorumon along the way. It would have been a really difficult thing to actually lose him in the time since they had gotten up in their seats, but it wouldn't have been impossible in this crowd. She didn't want to lose Dorumon. He was her closest friend in this world, and she felt comforted being around him. In a crowd like this, she would feel lost.

Instinctively, she reached out and took one of his claws in her hands. It was big enough for her to wrap her small fingers around and hold, as if they were holding hands. This way, they weren't going to be separated.

Now, where did they go first?

"There has to be an information kiosk somewhere, right?" she asked, looking at Dorumon. They were in a place she presumed a lot of people from the world didn't have in their own. It would be a difficult place to navigate if you didn't already have an idea of where you were going. They were near the entry point for a lot of foreign visitors. There had to be an information kiosk somewhere.

Mei started walking, occasionally raising to her tiptoes to see around other people in her quest to find what she was looking for.

Mei took his paw and held onto it. Dorumon understood that this was something humans liked to do - for different reasons, too. For them, it was so they wouldn't get separated from each other. As long as they were holding hands, they should be okay.

"Information kiosk?" he repeated, taking a moment to understand what she meant. Something that had helpful data for visitors, right? He had never really encountered anything of the sort in the Digital World. Where he had been living was mostly wilderness. Which had been fine for him, to be honest. Everything he needed had been there.

But he wasn't in the Digital World anymore, and now he had to learn about all these unfamiliar things. The big ship that he now lived on with Mei and a bunch of others. Cities and trains. This big space station hovering above the planet.

"What does an information kiosk look like?" Dorumon asked as they started to walk. He naturally stood on his toes, so in order to see around other people better, he had to stand a little straighter. It didn't help all that much, since he wasn't very tall. At the moment, anyway.

How did an information kiosk looked? Mei was sure that they probably looked different depending on where exactly they were, but she had seen some that had a similar design. The one in the only mall she had ever gone to back home had one that was shaped similarly to the one that was at the amusement park she and her sis- her cousin had gone to before.

"Well, a lot of them are kind of circular," she said, using her finger to make a circular motion. "The attendant stands on the inside and a desk goes all the way around. Sometimes, there's more than one attendant so they can help multiple people with different types of questions at the same time." She assumed there was a similar system here on the Citadel.

She lead the way through the crowd, keeping her grip on Dorumon's claw. She wasn't going to lose him at all in this crowd, she was sure.

She thought a set of information kiosks up ahead, manned by what looked like a bunch of similar looking... holograms? Were they holograms? Mei had only heard of holograms on television. She thought maybe someone had invented them for real but she wasn't certain. It wasn't something she kept up with. But, she went over to them, stepping into the place in front of one of the holograms that wasn't occupied.

"Hello, my name is Avina," it - she?- said. "How may I assist you with your visit to the Citadel?"

Circular with people in the middle. Okay, got it. Dorumon walked with Mei, keeping an eye out for anything that looked like what she had just described to him. He was expecting to see a kiosk with people - humans like Mei or a different race entirely - somewhere around here, but when they seemed to have finally found one, he wasn't sure who was running it.

The ones in the other kiosks looked more or less the same as this lady. She clearly wasn't human, or any of the other kinds of people they had passed on the way here. The dragon frowned a little, feeling a bit confused.

"She looks like she's made of data..." he said, looking up at Mei, "but she isn't a Digimon." Dorumon was made of data, but he had a physical body with features similar to those of other creatures on the planet down below. This lady... her form didn't seem physical at all, and to him, there was something off about her...

Made of data? Like Dorumon? Mei looked from Dorumon to the woman, but there was clearly nothing in common between the two of them. Dorumon said she wasn't a Digimon, so was she a different type of composition of data than Dorumon? Mei found it a very confusing thing, trying to wrap her head around all this data talk. It wasn't something that was normal for her to think about.

She would just leave it alone then.

"Maybe she's being projected," she murmured to Dorumon before she turned to the woman. "We haven't been here before. We don't really have a destination in mind. We'd just like to look around."

"Then, maybe I present one of the data maps, courtesy of Citadel Tourism," Avina said. She indicated a small data pad nearby. Mei hesitated before she grabbed it with her free hand. "It will be able to show all parts of the Citadel as well as give you general information on any place you choose as a destination."

"That sounds helpful, doesn't it, Dorumon?" Mei said, showing him the device she held. She wasn't sure if she knew how to work it, but it would probably be helpful if she figured it out.

Maybe she was being projected... Dorumon wasn't sure. He really didn't know much about digital beings besides Digimon like him. But the lady was trying to be helpful to them, gesturing to a small data pad which Mei had picked up. "Yeah, it does," he replied, looking at it. All they had to do was look at the maps of the Citadel and read some stuff, and then they could figure out where to go from here.

Being a tourist was a lot more complicated than he had realized. Until he came to the world down below, he had never really gone sightseeing before.

"Do you know how to work it?" he asked Mei curiously. It couldn't be any more difficult than using a phone, could it? If she wasn't sure, then he could try using it. As long as it worked with his claws - a lot of these devices were designed for hands with fingers and thumbs, which he currently lacked.

Now, the question was if Mei knew how to work the tablet-like datapad map she had been handed by Avina. The answer was, Mei didn't know. She didn't have such things back home so she wasn't quite sure if she knew if she was using it right or not. The screen just showed what looked like a screensaver - she knew what that was because the computers at school had them.

But, she had seen people like Black and Wes using tablets back on the airship. So, maybe she wasn't completely lost on it. She just needed to be able to see what was going on.

"Let's get out of the crowd first," Mei said to Dorumon. She hadn't released his claw yet, and now she gave it a small little tug so he'd follow her as she left the tourist kiosk. "Then, we can figure this out." She didn't want to be jostled along as she was trying to look at the screen. That would just make everything so much more harder to do.

"Okay." It would be easier to figure things out once they were out of the crowd. They wouldn't be jostled around then. The two of them were short compared to a lot of the surrounding people, and some of the passerby seemed like they were in a hurry to get somewhere. Maybe they were; apparently a lot of things happened in this huge place floating above the planet.

Dorumon walked with Mei; he couldn't really wrap his claws around her hand, so he was relying on her to keep a grip on his paw so they wouldn't lose each other. "We should find a bench to sit on," he suggested. Not only should it be out of the crowd, it should be easier to look at the screen while they were sitting down. How some people could just stand around staring at their phones while things were going on all around them befuddled him. Wouldn't it be easier to just sit down and look at whatever they're looking at?

And wouldn't it be safer, too? Dorumon couldn't quite understand all the things that people did.

A bench, right. Finding somewhere that they could sit out of the way while they check out the map device they had been given would be a good idea. She didn't want to be standing in the way where she could get jostled. A lot of these people were much taller than her or Dorumon, and they were clearly in a rush because they probably had business elsewhere. They wouldn't find shoving a child and a Digimon out of their way.

Adults were simply like that.

The crowd was dispersing once they had left the immediate area of the ports, and that meant there was more room for them to breathe. Mei paused for a moment as she looked around. As Dorumon suggested, there was a bench that was unoccupied. Mei wondered if someone would try to come and sit there so they would feel awkward trying to share the bench, so she hurried them over towards it, releasing Dorumon's claw only so she could sit down and hold the tablet between the two of them.

"Let's take a look," Mei murmured as she flicked the on button. The tablet turned on, showing a whole list of options to choose from. Mei didn't even know where to begin.

Dorumon hurried alongside Mei as they headed to the bench, sitting down on it once she released his paw. The Digimon curled his tail around so it rested beside him, draping off the edge with its white tip pointing towards the floor. His feet didn't reach the floor, either - whenever he sat on these things, they normally didn't. But he was comfortable.

The dragon shuffled so he was a little closer to Mei, peering down at the tablet as she held it between them. It lit up and they were suddenly greeted with a rather long list of options.

"Oh, wow..." he murmured. Dorumon had a glimpse of just how large the Citadel had been, but that was the view from the outside, while they were in the shuttle. Then he had a view of the interior, but he knew that what he could see was only a part of it. Now they had this list, and it showed just how much of the place they weren't able to see yet. The Citadel was far larger than he had realized, with more in it than he had thought.

"Maybe we should try looking at places that a lot of visitors go to." It would at least give them a place to start.

Wow, there was a lot of information here for them to digest. Mei hadn't had to look at something with so much new information since she had started middle school and had to start leafing through her textbooks. And that was all things related to stuff she had a faint recollection of, whether learning the simpler versions of them from elementary school or because she had heard it around and it was common knowledge.

But, trying to figure out the Citadel was hard work. Apparently, in space, things weren't quite set up the way that they were back on the planet below. Even if she was in an unfamiliar city, she still had an idea of how to look around for something she might need. It was less so here.

Mei clicked around at random, trying to get a better look at the options they had, of which there were a lot. There were a few places she didn't really want to go. The Presidium was where a lot of the diplomats were and she didn't want to get into trouble with them. Citadel Tower apparently needed special permission to even enter, and she doubted they were going to get it. In the grand scheme of things, they weren't that important.

"Maybe the Wards?" she asked, stopping on the info page for it. "It's the residential and commercial district." That sounded like a place they were allowed to be in.

So... homes and businesses? And maybe a market they could browse. That was where visitors liked going when they were in a new place, right? They liked to shop. Shopping was a fairly new concept to Dorumon - if there was some kind of currency in the Digital World he was from, then it never reached his paws. He lived in the wilderness and if he needed help with something, he asked his friends. Then he always tried to repay them with a favor later on.

But he thought he was getting the hang of it - he knew how to buy things now. Paper money and coins were tricky for him to handle with his claws, but the card that his and Mei's friends on the Axolotl had given to him was easy enough. Dorumon tried not to use it unless he had to, though. If he had cash on hand, then he'd work with the challenging objects. He wasn't going to get any better picking them up if he didn't practice!

"Let's go there, then," he agreed. "Should we look at the data for it, or should we just wait until we get there?"

So, they agreed to head out to the Wards. They sounded like an odd place to Mei. Who called something the Wards? It almost sounded like it was a part of a prison. Her hometown was a small enough city that they didn't have full districts in the way that a place like Tokyo had, but she couldn't imagine calling something simply the Wards.

But, she wasn't from some futuristic space station either, so maybe her opinion on the matter wasn't the most valid. She would probably keep it to herself.

Mei stepped off of the bench, tucking the datapad into her bag where she wouldn't - hopefully - lose it. She really didn't want to. It was really nice, and she knew it would essentially serve as hers and Dorumon's map while they traveled around this place. Somehow, she didn't think they would get their hands on another one if they lost it.

"Let's get there first," Mei said. "It's getting even more crowded here." She held her hand out again so she could hold into Dorumon's claw.
