Link smiled but didn't answer right away. Since they were out in the moonlight, it was easier to see, so he put his lantern away and pulled out his ocarina, which was shaped like a horseshoe. Putting it to his lips, he played a certain song, its melody cutting through the nighttime quiet and momentarily silencing the crickets out in the grass.

As soon as he finished the song, it was answered by a distant whinny, then the soft thunder of galloping hooves. Link soon saw his horse running towards them; she slowed down as she got closer, stopping once her rider was within reach.

"This is Epona," Link said to Lloyd as he affectionately rubbed the mare's face, then checked to make sure she wasn't injured. She was strong and independent enough for him to leave her out on the field for hours while he explored other areas, but he always made sure she didn't get hurt while he was away. There were a lot of creatures out there who would like to try catching a horse for dinner, whether it belonged to someone or not.

Epona was fine, and Link gave her head a final pat before she lowered it to peer curiously at Lloyd. "I had her for a long time... I think I'd feel lost if I had ended up in this world without her." Link watched as his friend shifted closer to Lloyd. "Go on, try petting her."

Lloyd watched with amazement as Link drew out a musical instrument to play. He knew it was an ocarina because it there was one in his music classroom at elementary school, even if the kids weren't allowed to play with it. Only their teacher was allowed to use it, which rarely ever happened. He didn't even know why they had it in the first place then if they weren't going to be able to use it.

He thought Link was better at playing it than his music teacher, though. The melody he played was enrapturing and Lloyd couldn't help but try to focus on it and nothing else. That was, until he saw a horse coming towards them. This horse was one of the biggest he'd ever seen up close, and she was simply gorgeous. He didn't know much about horses, to be fair, but she had to be one that was considered beautiful. Right?

"She's lovely..." he murmured as he watched Link interact with her. He didn't know how someone like him was going to ride it, even if he wasn't the lead rider. He was kind of on the short side, and she was pretty big.

Taking a gulp, he stepped closer and reached a hand out. He inched closer and closer until he was able to gently rub his hand against her side. He wasn't expecting her to feel so soft, but she did.

Turning her head, Epona regarded Lloyd with some curiosity and didn't move away from him when he petted her. "She likes you," Link said after a moment of watching his mount, who then responded to his voice by nudging him with her head, prompting him to pat her again. The swordsman did take note of just how short Lloyd seemed to be, standing right next to the horse; fortunately, he was used to having kids ride with him.

Link had been living in Ordon Village. It was impossible to have a horse and not have the local kids ask for rides at least several times a week.

Approaching Epona's side, he walked around her, checking her gear to ensure that it hadn't been damaged somehow. It would be dangerous for both horse and riders to continue using any of it if it was. Finding that everything was still in the same condition Link had last seen it and it was secured comfortably on Epona, he went back to Lloyd.

"Okay. I'm going to help you up there." Link took the Hylian Shield off his back and secured it to a special set of straps on the saddle; with someone riding with him, it was just going to be in the way. There was still his sword in its scabbard, but he needed that in case something attacked them once they were on the move. There should still be enough space for Lloyd to hang onto him, even with it there. Epona was a big horse and neither of them were what other people would consider tall for their respective ages. "Just shuffle back a little when you get up there so I have room to climb up in front of you."

Wow, Epona was really pretty. And, she was really friendly too. Lloyd didn't get to interact with a lot of horses. There weren't any in his home town, and if there were, he'd probably avoid them. He was just a small kid who could probably get into trouble with a horse this size. But, he wasn't worried about that right now since her owner and handler was here too.

"Oh, okay," Lloyd said in response to Link saying he was going to help him get onto Epona's back. Epona sure was big, and he wasn't so sure about sitting on her by himself, even if it was only for a few minutes until Link got on there. But, he made his way over so he was standing by the saddle.

It took a little bit of effort, but Lloyd managed to get onto the saddle. He shuffled back a little, the motion slow enough that it was probably a snail's pace. But, Lloyd didn't care about that because he was more concerned about not falling off! Which he didn't! He was perfectly fine on Epona's back!

"I think I'm good," he said to Link. He hoped that was enough room in front of him. If it wasn't, Link could very well kick him off!

They managed to get LLoyd up on Epona's back without too much trouble. He seemed light, although Link wasn't sure if the boy actually was, since he was capable of handling a lot more weight than most people would give him credit for. If Lloyd slipped off here, he could catch him easily, but it looked like he was sitting up there okay.

Link climbed up into the saddle next, being careful not to hit Lloyd as he did so. "Hang on, alright?" he said as he took up Epona's reins in his right hand, leaving his left free. They weren't going to go too fast, but he wanted to make sure that Lloyd wouldn't fall off. Nudging his horse's sides with his feet, he had her turn towards Saturn Valley and start off with an easy trot.

Once they were a short distance away from the city - and Link felt like he had given Lloyd enough time to get used to being on horseback - he flicked the reins. Epona picked up speed, galloping across the grassy fields illuminated by the moonlight.
