Dovahkiin
© Jessica // CURRENTLY Offline

Sometimes, it was like Dovahkiin's reputation proceeded him. He hated that.

For most of his life, he had been a traveler and he liked it that way. He didn't like being recognized when he traveled around Skyrim. At first, before his discovery of his dragonborn status, he was able to come and go without anyone knowing who he was. But, between becoming dragonborn, being the Harbinger of the Companions and a member of the Dawnguard, he had made himself one of the most recognizable people in the province.

It meant a lot of people came to him with their problems.

When he came here, his status as dragonborn didn't really mean much. He was stronger than most because of all his experiences and he was able to use a skill a lot of others couldn't even fathom of figuring out. But, he was just another warrior who was wandering the landscape of the Goddess' world, making his fortune to keep himself alive and feed.

He had spent the day wandering through Makna Forest. It was an interesting place and nothing like anywhere he had ever been. The monsters here fascinated him, and he spent some time trying to see as many as he could. He had slayed a few - the ones who attacked him first - but left the others alone.

The night came and Dovahkiin had come to Guardia Castle to rest. He thought he'd be able to convince them to have a bed, but someone who had come from Skyrim - a farmer or merchant or something - had recognized him.

And, now he was patrolling the hallways because apparently the castle had been bothered by a ghost in the past few days. Maybe. They weren't sure.

But, Dovahkiin had dealt with ghosts before, and he would deal with this one. They had promised to pay him after all.

After a long day of exploring Makna Forest, stopping by Frontier Village for lunch and then doing some more exploring here in the castle, Roy was hoping that he would get a good night's rest. But he apparently looked important enough to be spotted, spoken to and given a request. And now he and Litleo were wandering the hallways at night, looking for a ghost that was supposedly haunting the castle.

It wasn't that he didn't like helping people. Roy thought it was important to listen to people when they had problems. It was just as important to - when asked - try to help with those problems. But he was tired. If he stumbled onto an empty bed right now, he would likely fall onto it and he wasn't sure if he would be capable of leaving anytime soon.

So here he was, torn between wanting to assist and wanting to sleep.

Litleo was feeling sleepy as well, and the Pokemon let out a tiny yawn as he walked beside his friend. "You could have gone to bed, you know," Roy commented to him, but Litleo shook his head and attempted to look as awake as possible. As they stepped into the next hallway, a large man in armor came into view.

Tired as he was, Roy couldn't help but study him curiously. This was clearly a man who was well traveled and had much experience dealing with whatever trials there were in his life. Also... hadn't he heard something about a man like this before?

Makna had grown to be more beautiful than Amaterasu had initially stated. The greenery was so bright – the Zora had never seen anything like it before, and she’d been across so many provinces of Hyrule. Even grander still was the castle that sat where she had just wandered – Guardia Castle, it was. Large and beautiful, Mipha believed for but a moment that it was almost as beautiful as the castle that sat in the center of Hyrule.

Then she remembered that it was in ruins now, the town that used to border it decimated to mere rubble. With care, she slipped through one of the doors, stepping along the hallways and greeting those that she walked past. There was a way to hide her usual spiritual appearance, but she had explained to most of the staff that she was benevolent, and was only there to sightsee.

Once she was done, she would leave for her next destination, and try to offer her gift to the world where she could find the means. Still, some of the staff were wary.

So, Mipha decided to take an interest. She was a Champion, after all. The safety of Hyrule had once been her charge, Vah Ruta her instrument. So, she asked one of the maids that were nice with her what the matter was with everyone else.

“Haven’t you heard? There’s a malevolent spirit about these halls,” explained the maid. “We’ve hired the Dovahkiin to look into it, as well as Roy.”

This… Dovahkiin… is he skilled in removing malevolent spirits?” Mipha couldn’t help but ask.

“Supposedly. Someone else from Skyrim had wandered this way and told us of his exploits. He’s destroyed dragons, beaten up bandits… the whole nine yards, it seems. If he can’t get rid of this bad spirit, then I’m going to assume that no one can,” the maid explained, offering a smile to Mipha. “I’m glad you’re a nice spirit. Maybe you can help, too?”

Mipha blinked. “Perhaps… My only gift, however, lies in the art of healing others. I’m afraid I’m not of much use besides that…

Something sounded in a nearby room, however, cutting Mipha off entirely from her thoughts. Mipha and the maid turned to the source, immediately perplexed. What had that been?

Dovahkiin
© Jessica // CURRENTLY Offline

Dovahkiin's path through the castle seemed to be going in circles. It wasn't necessarily because he was lost - since he wasn't and was purposefully making loops around paths he had already crossed - but one never knew where a ghost was likely to appear. And, some people thought one couldn't just stab a ghost when it came into sight, which was wrong. He had stabbed plenty of ghosts before. One just needed to know where exactly it was to stab.

And, he knew exactly where he needed to stab.

Dovahkiin saw a boy come into view. He was not the type of boy Dovahkiin was used to. He wore bright armour that would have never passed in Skyrim, as it would have been too easy and obvious to spot him when out in the wilderness. Dovahkiin would have shot him from yards away and gotten a nice, clean shot through his neck without him having seen him coming. Not that he would have done that. He was more likely to maul him in his werewolf form.

He didn't know why the boy was here, but if he wasn't going to help, then he was going to be in the way.

"You..." he started but a noise caught his attention and his head snapped to turn in that direction. It might not have been a noise that one would have been able to hear normally, but his werewolf abilities gave him sharper instincts and he was able to hear more than a regular person was able to. He looked back at the boy. "You, follow me or get out of the way." He turned down another hallway, heading towards the noise he had heard.

He didn't make it all the way before he came across a maid and a... He wasn't sure what this person was, but they looked mildly suspicious to him. His eyes narrowed on her. "Do you know where the sound came from?" he asked. He had given pause from coming across them. He sniffed, and didn't get a scent from her. More suspicion. Few things didn't give off a scent. Particularly spirits.

The first word Roy heard from the man had enough force behind it that he ended up standing a little straighter. That was when he remembered what he had been told before. A Nord who wandered this planet, wearing a helmet bearing horns...

This was him, then? The Dragonborn. The one who hunted and preyed upon dragons.

It didn't matter just how tired Roy had been feeling earlier. He was certainly awake now.

There was a distant noise that Roy could barely hear. But Litleo heard it well, and the Pokemon stared off that way. At the man's blunt command, Roy nodded and followed after him down the hallway, Litleo trailing close behind them. They didn't get to the source of the noise because they encountered a pair of people along the way.

One was a castle maid, and the other was... a Zora? Roy had seen Zoras before. But there was something quite odd about her. He glanced down at his companion; Litleo was staring at her with a small frown. There was something about her that confused the young Pokemon and apparently, he didn't like it one bit.

This woman... she couldn't be the ghost they were pursuing. Was she?

The sound had not only attracted the attention of Mipha and the maid, it also brought forth two men, dressed in armour. The first was a large, bulky man, wearing a strange helmet with horns and a stern expression. The second was a young man with hair as red as Mipha’s scales. The younger man was accompanied by a small lionel-like creature. She tilted her head at the sight of it before the large man asked if she knew where the sound had originated from.

In response, Mipha turned to the room that she suspected it had come from. “Yes… I believe so. It sounded as if it had come from this room over here…” The maid nodded in agreement as Mipha turned to indicate the room in question.

The idea that she might be suspected to be the spirit by the two men hadn’t come to her at all, as she peeked through the door to see inside. There didn’t appear to be anything out of the ordinary, but there was something distinctly off about the entire room, and Mipha was able to sense it. Perhaps it was because she was a spirit herself, but… she had the feeling something was wrong.

“Well, milady?” asked the maid, highly concerned.

Perhaps… it would be better for you to carry on with your duties, and leave this to the Dovahkiin, the young man and myself,” Mipha decided, turning to the maid. “I sense something very wrong in this room… I’d prefer that you not get hurt in the process. It would pain me for something to happen to you.

The maid nodded, and took her leave. Mipha turned to look back into the room, a light frown on her face, as she tilted her head in wonder. Another disturbing sound came from the room, and she watched as a box of stored items fell off a shelf from the wall. Yes… something was very wrong.

Dovahkiin

The girl in question was odd looking to Dovahkiin. So far in his travels, he had not seen anything quite like her before. And, he was sure she was undead in one way or another. But, she wasn't being hostile. At least, not yet. How often had he come across creatures who tried to hide their true natures so they could attack when his guard was down? It never worked for them; his guard was never down, not truly. To let one's guard down while living in Skyrim was a fool's move, and he was no fool.

What he did know was that there was some sort of noise going on in the nearest room. It could either involve his quarry or it could be completed unrelated. Either way, it was possible it could disrupt his work, so he was going to deal with it.

Whether he used violence or not was up to it.

Dovahkiin entered the room, glancing at the maid who was sent away. Servants could be... annoying when they were underfoot. He knew that was a discriminatory thought, as he knew that society seemed to fall apart around itself when there weren't people completely such tasks.

He was about to comment when he saw the box fall. He snorted. Typical ghost move.

"Laas-Yah-Nir." The Shout he performed was quiet in comparison to most other Shouts he had in his arsenal, but it still did the trick. Next to him, the girl and the boy, as well as the boy's creature, lit up, showing him that they were present. The light wasn't something others could see. What they also couldn't see was that there was another presence in the room with them.

Actually, more than one.

"There's three things in here unsee," he said, his voice quiet. Almost as he said it, the three things moved, fading into the wall. Aura Whisper let him see through the walls, as far as seeing the lights, but they were dispersing and now joining the lights he could see of the nearby castle dwellers.

Roy

Roy was getting the feeling that the Zora wasn't the ghost they were searching for. He had learned to analyze people from not only their words and how those words were said, but their demeanor and actions as well. It didn't seem like she was trying to lure them into a false sense of security. The ghost must be something else.

When the Dragonborn entered the room, Roy went over and peered through the doorway, much like how the Zora was doing. Litleo peered in from around his leg, making a quiet growling noise as he did so. The Dragonborn then said something that apparently allowed him to see what was normally unseen, determining that there wasn't just one presence hiding in the room, but three.

"If they're working together, then it's easy for the castle's inhabitants to mistake them as being one entity..." he commented, keeping his voice just as quiet as the Nord's. "That is, if they're the ones responsible for the malevolent activity." There was also a possibility that the three unseen entities were innocent in this. Or they weren't involved but were still malevolent, which would mean that the threat in the castle was worse than the staff had thought.

They didn't have enough evidence to determine anything yet, but that was part of the investigation process. Roy realized that he hadn't had much dealings with spirits back in his world... but between this, the mansion in Oerba and the strange building in the Seireitei, he and Litleo were getting quite a bit of experience. Whether they intended to or not.

With the maid gone, Mipha felt a little more at ease. Knowing that the poor girl would not get hurt in such a situation as this would ease on her conscience, as she kept an eye out on around the room. Now it was just her, the red-haired boy, the boy’s pet, and the Dovahkiin. Surely, if the two men were the ones tasked with this, they were more than capable of handling whatever would come their way.

Mipha was already dead, she had nothing to fear. With that solid thought in her mind, she watched as the Dovahkiin stepped forward, and performed a kind of magic she had yet to see. While it did nothing for her sight, it was obvious that it had done something for his.

The Dovahkiin informed them that there were three other things in the room with them, and Mipha glanced about the room in curiousity, wondering just what it was that they were dealing with. She turned to face the red-haired boy when he offered his own suggestions, pointing out that there was a chance that these beings they were with weren’t responsible.

Mipha stepped in closer. Perhaps her fellow spiritual status would prevent the entities from doing anything to her?

Whatever the case may be, we need to learn why it is here… Why it is causing these people to worry…” When nothing happened as she stepped further into the room, she turned to the Dovahkiin, tilting her head slightly in confusion. “If I may ask… Dovahkiin? What do you see?
