Bad Girl was on vacation.

Okay, not really. Because she was able to take vacation whenever she wanted as she was her own boss. Really, she was on one long vacation that only took brief breaks where she was called up by the United Assassins Association to go kill someone. Sorry, assassinate someone. Assassins were pretty particular about their words. She wasn't. She only liked assassin because it had two asses in it and two asses were better than one.

Anyways, she was on her not-vacation. In Kijuju. She had never been here before, and she had almost gotten completely stuck there because one of her heels had sunk into a muck hole and she almost couldn't get it out. There had been a lot of screaming and profanity so the muck hole must have gotten scared and released her because here she was, free as a bird.

She might have also been drinking. It was a definite possibility since she was carrying Jack Daniels in one of her hands.

Now, she found herself on a very small hill where she seated herself on the wetlands grass with no concern what it might do to her stockings or her dress. She just felt like sitting down and taking in the landscape.

The landscape which included the occasional zombie.

"I fucking love zombies," she muttered under her breath before taking a swing of her Jack Daniels. Maybe, when she felt like standing up again, she would go zombie hunting.

When Durnehviir had heard of Kijuju, with undead roaming the land, he almost thought that it might be like the Soul Cairn. Cold, extremely dreary, and landscape features that would seem interesting for some time before becoming very tedious to look at after the first century or so. The dragon was quite pleased to find out that it was nothing like that.

For one thing, it was still on the planet, and thus exposed to the variations of weather that the Soul Cairn clearly lacked. He had spotted a settlement of mortals, but while it likely had some differences that set it apart from other civilized areas in this world, Durnehviir was far more interested in the wilder portions of the region. There were undead here and naturally, he wanted to study them, see how they differ from the undead he was familiar with.

And study he did, spying on them from the air, watching their movements. Occasionally, he would pluck one from the ground and tear it into pieces. These undead seemed to be victims of a rather vicious virus. Being an undead dragon, Durnehviir need not worry about it harming him.

As he scoured the wetlands for more subjects, he spotted a human woman sitting in the grass. She was clearly not dead and from her movements, she was intoxicated. One of the infected dead had also came into view, staggering off some distance away. Perhaps... it was time for some fun, in the form of an experiment.

With a roar, the dragon raced down, snatched the undead man in his talons and then flew back upwards, ignoring as it tried to sink its teeth into his hide. Such blunt teeth would never break a dragon's hide, even if it was rotten. Maybe it would do better surviving being thrown?

Once Durnehviir was high enough, he flung his new victim into the air, having it sail over the woman's head.

Bad Girl heard the dragon before she saw it. She didn't even bother looking for it. It was kind of dreary at the moment - the sun was covered with clouds - but she still saw the shadow go over her. It was definitely a dragon. Unless there was some other giant lizards with wings were out there. And, no, she didn't want to have a lecture about wyverns and all that other shit that those spazzoid nerds like bitching about when you weren't being fully exact and technically with your nerd terminology.

She didn't see how it happened, but suddenly there was a zombie falling down in front of her.

"Shit, it's raining zomb-os," she said, loudly - a lot louder than she had any need to. She should have probably kept her voice down if she didn't want to draw more zombies towards her, but, frankly, she wanted all the zombies to come towards her. She didn't even give a shit if they bit her. It wouldn't turn her into one of them.

There wasn't enough blood in her alcohol stream for that.

But, Bad Girl did get up and look at the dragon this time. She noticed there was something off about it.

"It's a fucking zombie dragon," she said, surprised. Now, that was a combination worthy of eating a horde of whiny, sniveling teenagers.

Durnehviir noted that the woman had not bothered to glance up when he flew overhead. Normally, his shadow caused mortals to panic and flee. This human was either too intoxicated to care or was used to seeing dragons flying around. Likely both, if his past encounters with certain people were anything to go by.

The undead man did not appear to have survived the fall. How unfortunate for it. The woman reacted to it, but only slightly.

Then she finally looked up and Durnehviir could see her expression. The dragon snorted and swooped in, braking in midair. Flapping his wings, he remained in one spot, peering down at the mortal. "Yes... I suppose an undead dovah is more surprising to see than a reanimated corpse falling from the sky," he said to her. Even though the undead prowled this landscape, a dragon in his condition would certainly stand out.

"Shit, it talks," Bad Girl said, as if the dragon hadn't just spoken to her and could still hear whatever it was she was saying right now. Not that she really cared if it could hear her or not. If she actually gave a fuck, she wouldn't have been saying it out loud like this. She had a brain and it did this little thing called thinking, where she was able to speak to herself in her mind. It was kind of useful. She wasn't one of those fucking airheads who said everything out loud.

But, that wasn't what she was thinking about right now.

Right now, she was thinking about how she had just come across a fucking talking zombie dragon.

Bad Girl took a drink from her Jack Daniels and wiped her mouth off on the back of her hand, letting a small belch out afterward. It wasn't very polite, but the dragon just dropped a dead dude out of the sky so he couldn't care less about manners from the looks of things.

"I mean, you're probably talking, right?" Bad Girl asked. "This isn't some delusion I'm having because I drank too much and knocked myself out by hitting my head, right?"

Bad Girl didn't think it was likely. It was impossible for her to drink too much. Also, a delusion probably wouldn't tell her so, and if she was imagining things, people would be naked.

Ah, yes. Most humans were under the assumption that dragons were incapable of speech. Perhaps because the creatures from their own worlds that they refer to as dragons often did not talk. Durnehviir had encountered many kinds, some more hostile than others. Naturally, he won all of those fights.

The woman thought she might just be imagining things because of her drinking. Durnehviir found that somewhat amusing.

"My kind is perfectly capable of speech, and we use it to its fullest capabilities, unlike most of you joorre." Mortals took speech for granted, and yet most of them did not realize the power it truly held. It was for the best. They already had so many issues that they did not need more power to go with it.

"This is no delusion... although if it were, it may explain certain things." Like the world they were in and the Goddess who created it. Theories were everywhere, but they were simply that. The truth still remained beyond everyone's reach.

So, talking dragons were a thing, huh? Sure. Why the fuck not? Bad Girl could deal with that. She had dealt with a whole lot of weird ass shit since she had come to this place. Why not some fucking talking dragons too? And why stop at talking dragons when you could have talking zombie dragons?

Yeah, Bad Girl might have smoked something before she got here. She couldn't even remember (which was, of course, a side effect from having smoked something).

But, since she was here, she might as well amuse herself with the zombie dragon.

"So," she said, flopping herself back down onto the grass. There wasn't any immediate dangers coming her way so she was fine. Besides, standing on uneven terrain in heels was a bitch and she would have preferred to not do it, if she could. "How'd you die?"

Bad Girl thought that it was a good question. She had died too at some point, though you weren't able to tell just by looking at her. It was because some dickhead had stabbed his lighty-light sword into her stomach like a bitch.

Fucking Travis fucking Touchdown.

Durnehviir

Many humans would not stick around when an undead dragon spoke to them. They would scream and flee, hiding in their little houses or cowering behind bushes and trees that might seem like reasonable hiding places from the ground, yet were ineffective when viewed from the air. This human was not like them, instead sitting on the ground like it was perfectly normal. Durnehviir responded by landing in front of her, causing the ground to shake.

For a moment, he wondered if he would sink into the wet ground due to his weight, but it seemed like the flesh he had lost over his many years of decomposition had lightened him enough. Either that, or the ground was more stable than it looked.

"My current state has less to do with death and more with the years trapped within a realm not meant for the living. And the dov have no reason to fear the flow of time." Many beings - dragons included - would rather die than withstand years upon years of witnessing their body slowly deteriorate, Durnehviir suspected. "When establishing a contract with otherworldly beings, it is best to think it over carefully. They will look for loopholes."

The Ideal Masters. If they had physical forms, Durnehviir would have loved to rip out their throats the moment he was freed from their control.

Oh, so he was like... cursed or some shit like that? Bad Girl wasn't sure if that was more badass than being a full on zombie or not. He hadn't been infected by any disease or bitten by some flesh eating monster. He just had some dick-ish godlike beings messing with him and tricking him into stupid contracts where he forget to read the terms and conditions - not that Bad Girl could blame him as she didn't exactly read that shit either.

But, she did know what he was feeling. She was kind of stuck in this world because of some higher being.

Except she was fully alive now. When she should have been dead. And, she wasn't a rotting corpse. Okay, not entirely the same thing, but close enough.

"I feel you," was what she said to him. "It's like when you sign up for free porn on the internet but then you're bogged down with all sorts of damn ads that you can't see a single titty."

Bad Girl sighed and took another swing of her Jack Daniel's. Yeah, if she used that metaphor, she knew his pain pretty fucking well.

That comparison was... it was something that someone who was intoxicated would say, surely. At least Durnehviir would take it as such. He did not think he would get a different comparison and so he would accept this one. How lucky for this woman.

Besides, she was interesting enough that he did not feel compelled to eat her, or kill her and make her his thrall. Something would have been lost if he did that - her personality. Most meals and undead lacked that, for obvious reasons.

"I have been hearing much about this 'Internet', this... limitless library of information that you joorre like to use." Often they liked to browse through it on the little devices they would hold in their hands. Said devices had other uses, although he could not understand why they were so important to the lives of some mortals. Some walked around staring at the tiny little screens. They even did this in their vehicles, not watching where they were going.

The resulting events were often tragic, but there were also quite a few that had been hilarious and entertaining, an amusing show of the importance of watching where one was going.

Oh shit, the zombie dragon knew what the internet was. Ten brownie points for him. That wasn't honestly something she would have expected him to even mention to her. It just wasn't a thing that went well with dragons. But, of course, the mess that was the Goddess' World made it something that people just knew about, even if they didn't have it back in their world because they were gross and backwater.

She also didn't know what the fuck a joore was. Did he call her a slut? Because that sounded like it would be a slutty term.

If he did... well, he probably wasn't wrong.

"I wonder if I have can pick the internet up on my phone," she muttered. She tugged her phone out of her pocket, turning the screen on. Her background was that of her beloved son, Kirby. He was the most adorable thing to ever exist. Ever.

Opening her browser, it connected. "Oh shit, it works." She took another drink from her Jack Daniels. "You know, I don't use it all that much for unimportant things, but I wonder what sorts of shit the internet in this world picks up." What could you look up here? Was this some internet that the Goddess had set up? How did it work?

Bad Girl had never cared. She mostly used it for porn and ordering pizza.

The woman had one of those devices. Phones, they were called. She commented about trying to "pick up" the Internet from here, and Durnehviir actually understood. The dragon sometimes overheard mortals complaining about not getting signals in certain areas. Apparently, there were signals even out here, in this land of undead.

Although, if one was out here, they should be watching where they were going instead of watching their phone, lest they bump into a shambling, rotting corpse.

There were none around. What a pity. Durnehviir would have liked to see just how far he could throw one. "I would assume one would post current events, or interesting things they had found on this planet." Then the dragon snorted. "The number of joorre pointing their devices up at me have been increasing as of late. I am tempted to eat the next fool who does so."

Not this woman, though. If she wanted to take a photograph of him, then he would not mind. She had stayed to talk to him - instead of running away or attacking him - so he thought she deserved at least that much.

Were people seriously trying to take selfies with a fucking zombie dragon? Bad Girl would have liked to give them credit for having major balls but she was pretty sure that wasn't the case at all. She was pretty sure they were just stupid, like the parents who let their children climb all over shit with signs saying not to do that and then tried suing when their kids were hurt from falling.

Yeah, stupid people.

Out of curiosity, Bad Girl typed 'joorre', the word he kept calling her into the search. Apparently, it meant mortals, and dragons liked to call people that. Like real people, with tits and shit. Not dragons. Because dragons were probably immortal.

That or they had really big egos, which Bad Girl wouldn't even doubt.

But, the message came from someone from Neo Domino who had managed to do an interview with an old scholar from the College, who apparently knew some words in the dragon tongue. Not all the words. Just some words.

"Can't even be fluent...." she muttered to herself. Then, she raised her phone to point it at the dragon before her. "Look cool for a second. It's gonna be my wallpaper."

Durnehviir was mildly impressed that the woman still wanted to take a photograph of him, even after he voiced his thoughts on eating the next person who tried. He assumed that she knew that he was not referring to her. Either that, or all her drinking had worsened her judgement. Alcohol did do that to humans, after all. Why the repeat offenders could not learn from their mistakes the first time was something he could not understand.

She asked him to look cool. "I am an undead dovah who breathes ice," he remarked dryly. But Durnehviir decided to humor her anyway, shifting his weight to his legs and standing up, flaring his wings to their full length.

He hoped she appreciated what he was doing, going out of his way just for her to take a photograph of him with her phone. Most other dragons would have tried to kill her by now. Durnehviir was considering having the next mortal foolish enough to think he was something to be posted online and gawked at as a snack.

Oh shit, he was right. He looked cool because he was an undead dragon who breathed ice, and not everyone got to see one of those everyday. But, he still did a cool pose for her, so she made sure to get a good shot of him. She examined it after she had lowered the phone, having taken her shot. It was pretty damn good, if she did say so for herself.

"Sweet, it looks fucking badass," she said, setting it up as her wallpaper. She was going to have to show it to Kirby when she got home because this was the type of thing she was pretty sure mothers were supposed to show their young children.

Kirby was young... right? Fuck, she couldn't remember. He had never said how old he was. If he had come out of her womb, she would know, but she had no bloody idea.

Oh well, it wasn't important.

She slid her phone back into the pocket in her dress before looking back at the dragon.

"So, I'm going to go kill some fucking zombies. Wanna shotgun?"
