A cold wind whipped about Link's ears, playing with his hair and hat as he hefted himself up onto the broken building. The sky had darkened to shades of red and orange, signifying the end of the day.

Exploring the Eastern Continent, he had stopped here, partially out of curiosity and partially out of concern. Time seemed... strange here. To him, it just felt that way. More troublesome was that a lot of people were living in poor conditions. Naturally, Link wanted to help, but not only was he uncertain of where to start, most of them were wary, often vanishing into the more broken places that were harder to reach.

It was, he would admit, difficult to watch.

Without anywhere safe here that he could spend the night, Link turned and gazed out along the stretch of city before him. The only option he had now was to leave the area, find his horse and ride back to Saturn Valley. Tomorrow was a new day; he could always return if he wanted to.

The swordsman took a running jump, leaping off the building to a lower one beside it. An expertly timed roll spared him from injury, then he was off again, making his way across the rooftops in any way that he could.

Going to the Infinity Fortress was probably not one of Lloyd's finest decisions. He hadn't been planning to come here originally, but he had heard all sorts of interesting things about it. He had been told to be cautious and so he had been, but he had always wanted to explore as much as it as he possibly could. His trusty air gun was on him, so he wasn't too worried about enemies.

Or, he hadn't been, until he had run into a group of goblins - he thought they were goblins, anyways, since they mighty sure looked the part! - who had thought that an eleven-year-old kid would be an easy target. Lloyd wasn't necessarily an easy target, per say, but he had been highly outnumbered, even if he used his good aim to knock a couple of them out.

That was how he found himself being chased down a street of the Infinity Fortress. If he was Holland or Wes, he would have probably tried to fire a new shots with his air gun over his shoulder, but he didn't trust himself to aim that way. Besides, he needed to make sure he didn't trip!

Oh, he just hoped he could lose them or someone would come help him soon!

Link had just a few more rooftops to traverse before he would reach the outskirts of the Infinity Fortress. But his plans often changed when something new happened, and it was the same when he heard noises down a street not too far away. Changing his course, he remained on the rooftops as he crossed over a few other streets before reaching the right one.

Down below was a boy being chased by... bulblins? An entire horde of them. Too many for most people to take on at once. Link had never seen them come into an area on this planet that was already inhabited by humans. What were they doing here?

That could wait. They were on the move, so he would have to deal with them while going at their pace. Pulling out the Hero's Bow, Link took aim at one of the creatures, drew back the arrow and fired, all while running along his current rooftop. The arrow took down its intended target, drawing some of the bulblins' attention up to him. A few took out their own crude bows and started shooting back at him.

Which was what Link wanted - more eyes on him meant less on the boy. There was enough space on the rooftop for him to fire a few more arrows before he had to use one of his Clawshots to pull himself to the next building, which was a floor higher than his current level.

Lloyd turned a corner sharply, taking that moment to glance backwards. Nope, they were definitely still following after him. Shoot! If only there wasn't so many of them! He would have been able to stop and take the time to shoot at them. That was impossible though, with the sheer number of them. The moment he paused to take aim, several would run past him and overrun him in moments.

Nope, he was just going to have to keep running and hope for the best! That was probably the best plan he had at the moment!

When he was further down the street, he heard a soft twang behind him, followed by a grunt. There was also no more running footsteps. Surprised, Lloyd turned around to find that the goblins had been distracted by something. Now was his chance!

He glanced around and located a garbage can. Old habits died hard as he headed for it, clambering inside with the ease of an expert. With the lid on top of him, he was able to carefully lift it up on occasion and shoot his air gun without drawing too much attention to himself.

The boy had went to hide in an odd spot - a garbage can. It did remove him from view, leaving Link with the remaining bulblins. After taking down a few more of them, he started to make his descent, hopping from one lower ledge to another until he reached the ground. He landed on the street, between the horde and the garbage can.

The bulblins advanced on him. Putting away his bow, Link drew his sword.

Going for the closest target, the bulblins at the back continued to fire arrows at him. Link deflected them all with his shield and darted forward. The first one he reached attacked him with its club, but he swatted the weapon aside with his blade and went in for the kill. When it fell, he targeted the next. The bulblins quickly decided that the arrows weren't working and switched straight to just mobbing him, but he kept them at bay.

Being in the trashcan was a comfort to Lloyd, as silly as that sounded. He used to find safety and solitude in them because he was cowardly. He had grown braver since then, but it was still something that helped him out in situations.

Like the one he was in at the moment where he was using it as something to distract attention from him as well as use as cover so he was still able to see what was going on and help with the weird battle that was going on. Someone had joined the fray, though Lloyd couldn't quite seem them clearly. He was just able to make them out enough that he wasn't shooting them with them with his air gun like he shot at the goblins.

When most of them were down, the rest chose to flee. Lloyd waited, air gun poised on the rim of his trash can. Once they were out of sight, he sighed and sat down in the trash can, letting the lid fall down and shut.

This was a relief now. He was able to breathe now.

The surviving bulblins fled. Link let them go - he didn't have any reason to chase them this time. He doubted they would attack anyone else with their numbers diminished. Like a lot of creatures that he was familiar with, they were more confident in larger groups, where they could surround and attack the enemy. They would return only when they once again had enough of them to be a threat.

Link only sheathed his sword once the last one was out of sight. Then he turned towards the garbage can. The boy he had seen earlier was still inside; he could hear him.

Approaching the garbage can, Link didn't open it. Instead, he gently knocked on the lid, causing it to rattle a bit. Then he took a step back. It was better to just let the boy come out on his own than trying to make him. It was getting darker and the shadows of the buildings around them spread out, covering more ground, but the swordsman wasn't worried, now that he had a reason to delay his trek out of the area.

Lloyd kept his air gun in his hand, just in case. He heard a knock on the lid of his garbage can. He was well aware that anything out there that wanted to attack him wasn't likely to be polite and knock on the door. They were more likely to simply grab the lid and let themselves in. Or, they would even toss the garbage can aside with him inside of it.

But, a knock did came, so Lloyd stood up, using his free hand to gently push the lid up and out of his way. Standing outside of the can was a young man Lloyd hadn't seen before today, though he was sure he was the guy who had helped find those goblins. He was funnily dressed, but it reminded Lloyd of some Saturday morning cartoons. Either way, he wasn't dressed from the time period Lloyd was from, nor did he looked like he was from Infinity Fortress. He must have been another wanderer.

"Thanks for your help," Lloyd said, albeit a little shyly, as he climbed out of the garbage can and landed on his feet on the ground. He looked up at the man before he felt a little embarrassed. He had been caught climbing into and out of a garbage can. "I... uh, I wasn't hiding in there or anything. I was... using it for cover..."

Link waited as the boy climbed out of the garbage can; it was clear that he was embarrassed for being seen using it for a hiding spot. It was a strange place to hide, especially with so many buildings and alleyways around that could also be used. But it had turned out to be a pretty effective cover, there was no mistaking that.

"You know... you did jump into it pretty quick. I bet those bulblins would've gone right on by without being the wiser." Some would search around, sure, but they would likely ignore the garbage can, thinking that no human would dare to hide in one. It was the perfect camouflage. "This one looks pretty sturdy, too. Even if they did see you, it could handle a few blows." The can did remove the boy from sight - and long enough for the bulblins to get distracted by Link - so it did serve its purpose in that situation.

"So I think it was a smart move to hide in there. You had to think on the spot and you used what you could find in your surroundings. No shame in that." Really, Link wasn't going to fault the boy for jumping into a garbage can when a horde of bulblins were chasing him. He had honestly done even stranger things than that.

Lloyd was relieved to hear that this guy didn't mind that he was climbing into garbage cans for cover. Some people would just think it was gross, but this guy thought there was strategy from it. There was though, even if it was also a self-security issue. Back in the day, he was likely to drop into garbage cans to hide, not so he could use it to his advantage in a battle. Back in the day, though, he wasn't getting into battles.

But, he was glad that there was no judgements. He would have been super embarrassed then!

"Thank you," he said, rubbing the back of his neck. "A lot of people just think it's weird and smelly, but in my experience it can be helpful." No one expected the garbage can, of course. It meant no one looked at it if he did slip inside without their notice.

"I'm Lloyd, by the way," he said, his voice a little shy. He was told that introductions were important and he thought so too. He thought it was weird going around with people without knowing their names. "It's nice to meet you!"

"Lloyd?" That was a name Link had heard before, tossed around by more than one person. Now that he had the time to think about it, the boy matched the description he had heard a few times before. White hair, glasses, shy, yet smart. "You're Rosalina's racing partner. I'm Link, nice to meet you, too."

By now, it had darkened enough for it to start limiting their visibility, so he pulled out his lantern, casting a warm glow in their corner of the Infinity Fortress.

"What brings you out here?" If Link had to guess, then it was curiosity. The Infinity Fortress had an eerie quality to it that kept most people away. Stranger than that was how time felt here, as if it was... different, somehow. Not a place to stay overnight without learning more about it. But during daytime, it was bound to draw people who were curious about it and wanted to explore.

Oh! This guy knew Rosalina! And, his name was Link! Lloyd couldn't recall if he had heard about this guy before, but he heard so many things all the time that sometimes it was hard to remember just everything one learned. Especially in a world like this one. There was just so much stuff to learn!

It was starting to get dark outside but Link pulled out a lantern that made the immediate area around them glow with its light. That was convenient. Lloyd didn't think to bring a flashlight with him, which probably hadn't been too smart an idea. Lloyd liked to believe he was fairly intelligent kid and he was often prepared for things, but sometimes he missed things. He was very lucky he ran into Link then!

"I was just exploring," Lloyd said. In this world, he didn't have school. The adults in his life didn't seem to bothered by that, nor did kids like the Pokemon trainers even seem to go to school. Apparently, in some worlds, it wasn't a requirement for kids his age. Besides, he wasn't sure he would fit into any of the schools in this world. And, he really liked living the way he was right now.

"Or, I was just exploring until those goblins caught up to me," he said with a slight frown. "I guess I'm a little lost now. This place just seemed so... odd. I needed to come look at it myself." Of course, that curiosity got him in trouble, but everything was alright now.

So Lloyd was exploring, then. At least until the bulblins saw him, anyway. "It's an interesting place, that's for sure," Link agreed, glancing at their surroundings. Buildings upon buildings, with people hiding away in them. Then there was the whole thing with the time. It was an easy place to get lost in, but unlike a certain other place on this continent, darkness wasn't seeping into it as much.

Link wouldn't be speaking to Lloyd right now if that had been the case, and it wouldn't be for lack of trying.

"I was on my way out for the night." If there was more of the Infinity Fortress to see, then it was better to see it during the day. It wouldn't feel right to leave Lloyd wandering around by himself in the dark, either. "I can take you to Saturn Valley on my horse, if you want. We can come back in the morning." Their friends living in the village wouldn't mind them dropping in late, he was sure.

And in a pinch, they could set up camp somewhere - outside of the Infinity Fortress. Link hadn't seen enough of this place to trust it. There was definitely something strange going on in here.

Right, it was getting pretty late. Lloyd looked up without thinking. The night sky wasn't fully there yet, but he could see it taking place. There were things he heard about Infinity Fortress, and even if he was eager to snoop around them, he still knew that this place was a potential hazard to his health. Honestly, a lot of places were potential hazards to his health. That was just how this world worked.

How the Fortress worked, though, he had no idea. He knew the basic concepts about it that people talked about, but he didn't know how they were really applied. Or what would happen if they decided to apply themselves to him.

Taking off for the evening and coming back in the daylight sounded like a pretty good idea.

"Okay," Lloyd said in agreement. He liked Saturn Valley, too. He had friends there. It would be simple enough to sleep over and come back in the morning when there was daylight. There was clearly something eerie about this place at night, too. He was alright now, but he wasn't sure if he would like it very much once all the lights were out.

They were going to have to find their way out of here now, though.
