Rock was out and about, once more going exploring across the continent. A lot had changed since he had arrived in this world, and in the wake of the New Year’s Celebration, a lot was coming full circle. Soon, for a lot of people that were here, they would have been on this world for one full year. The same couldn’t be sad for Rock, but he had an advantage.

… At least he would be with his family. A lot of people wouldn’t be able to say that, and it was hard to believe that a lot of people wouldn’t have that. In the wake of all the things happening, Rock needed something to keep his mind off the problems, off the crisis, off everything.

So he decided to go exploring.

Walking aimlessly, Rock found his way to Radiant Garden, a rather interesting looking place with a large, a rather run-down castle in the center of all of it. He’d heard of this place from others, and knew that there were some kind of creature that lived here called “Heartless”. These creatures supposedly targeted people for their hearts.

Well, he was a robot. He lacked that, so he wasn’t particularly worried about it. With a bright smile, he explored the entire town, meeting and chatting with all kinds of people and learning more about the place.

Radiant Garden was an exciting place! If only Rock was paying attention where he was going, as he nearly walked into someone as he was too distracted by all the scenery.

“Oh! Sorry!” he voiced.

Running the Citadel was a lot of work. Normally, the Councillors would be sharing the sort of work he was doing among the four of them. But, the Councillors weren't here and there were some things that the diplomats just couldn't be in control of for a variety of reasons - whether because they weren't trained for it or because it would cause racial tensions on the space station to know someone from one race was doing a task they thought their race should be in control of. Hackett was almost given a free pass when it came to those problems. There had been no high ranking officials on the Citadel when it came to this world, and so Hackett's arrival was treated as a god-send. He was the highest rank officer in the Alliance System's military and he had been an integral part of the conflict with the Reapers. It meant the people trusted him more than they would have a regular soldier.

And, Hackett had been a career soldier. As a youth, he had joined the Academy. The moment he had graduated, he had received soldier status and he proceeded to do as many of the hardest missions the Alliance had to offer. He rose in ranks faster than any other soldier in Alliance history. That had made the people of the Citadel feel secure with him in charge.

But, Hackett wasn't used to riding a desk all the time. Even in his admiralty, he was in charge of the Fifth Fleet and that placed him out on duty in space as opposed to being trapped on a colony somewhere, doing paperwork. As much as he was committed to his work on the Citadel, he needed to get away sometimes.

That was why he - and his charge, the Luma he had dubbed Arcturus after one of the space stations that humanity had built - was in Radiant Garden. Arc thought it looked cool because it had a castle. That was the sole reason for them choosing it as their destination. Arc was floating nearby, admiring stuff, when Hackett was almost bumped into.

Years as a soldier made him tense and move out of the way, but it was close. He noticed it was a young boy, who was dressed oddly.

"No harm done," he said, just as Arc floated over and peered at him.

"I like your helmet!" Arc piped. No introduction at all.

The man that Rock had nearly bumped into had the reflexes of… well, maybe ninja was exaggerating, but Rock was quite impressed. He had with him a strange little star that floated about complimented his helmet, causing Rock to reach up and take it off to let the little star inspect it.

“Thanks!” he chirped excitedly. “I like it, too!”

With a bright smile, he looked up at the man. “My name’s Rock! It’s nice to meet you! What brings you to Radiant Garden?”

There were all kinds of really neat things all over the planet. Some places had different things to offer, too – Midgar had all those empty buildings to explore. Neo Domino had card games everywhere. Radiant Garden had a lot of neat things to see, too, like the castle.

So what brought this man and the star here?

Ah, the boy was in high spirits despite their sudden run-in. That was good. Hackett had dealt with far too many people who were rude upon such an accident, as if everything was simply someone else's fault but theirs, and he wasn't sure he would respond well to someone who acted that way towards Arc. Any of the more uppity diplomats that spent time on the Presidium had learned that they needed to respect Arc as much as they respected him - otherwise, their stay wouldn't have been very pleasant.

"Wooow," Arc said, floating around Rock's helmet. He even zipped so he was inside of it, giggling as he did so. The corners of Hackett's mouth twitched as if they were going to smile, but they didn't quite make it all the way up.

Turning back to the boy, Hackett introduced himself and his charge. "I am Admiral Steven Hackett of the System Alliance and current head of the Citadel. This is my nephew, Arcturus, though he prefer to be called Arc for short."

"It's a pleasure to meet you!" Arc piped from inside the helmet, his voice echoing around it.

"We're taking a break from duty," Hackett answered, truthfully, "and we've come here because Arc wanted to see the castle up close."

Castles are cool!" Arc added as he floated out of the helmet.

So, this man was an Admiral! On top of that, he was the current head of the Citadel. Rock had been there, actually, and the familiarity with the place caused him to give Admiral Hackett a bright smile. It was nice to meet both of them, and his systems kicked in, identifying Arc as a Luma.

Right! When he had met Rosalina, she had quite a few little Lumas around her, hadn’t she? He had to wonder why one of her children seemed to be hovering around Admiral Hackett. Then again, he was calling the little Luma his nephew, so perhaps they were family!

Well, Rock wasn’t going to really question it, so he turned to the castle when Admiral Hackett had said that Arc wanted to see the castle, which resulted in the small Luma saying that castles were cool. Rock nodded in agreement. The castle in Radiant Garden was unique in his opinion, then again most castles he had seen had a large skull shape or something. Wily’s style was weird.

“Yeah, they are! I like this one a lot,” he commented. “It’s kind of unique.”

The boy was pleasant to talk to. Hackett wasn't sure how old he was - he had long grown used to knowing people weren't always how old they appeared to be, especially now that even humans lived longer in his world than they had in the past - but Hackett had more than his fair share of run-ins with the youth who often thought they were better than their elders. Hackett normally put them in their place before the conversation was over.

"It is," Hackett agreed. "There isn't one quite like it where I came from." He had never been a history buff, but he had seen enough documentary vids to know what the typical castles around Earth would look like.

"Let's go look!" Arc said, his voice still excited. He floated close to Rock. "You should come with us!"

"If you're not busy," Hackett added. He didn't mind them having someone accompany them around town, as long as they weren't being a nuisance to the person in question. Arc rarely thought about those types of things because he was young, but Hackett knew to add it. He was often a busy man and didn't always have time to spare for things. He didn't want to burden others.

Arc wanted Rock to come with him and Admiral Hackett, and Rock gave a grin. That did sound like a lot of fun, and he wasn’t really up to much, anyway. At least this way he could make new friends and also get to check out something that was cool, and exciting.

“I’m not, so it’s okay!” he assured both of them, already excited for the chance of adventure. “I think it would be really cool to check it out, I haven’t heard much about it at all.”

It was funny how much he lacked regarding knowledge about it. Though, he supposed, he hadn’t really come here before with the intent to explore. The castle was a big unknown to not only him, but even the people that he knew. Rhyme had been in it before, though all she really knew was the man who ran security happened to live there. And even then, he mostly haunted the basement, as that was where the computer was.

But what about the rest of it?

Rock wasn't busy, then. That meant they could make this exploration of Radiant Garden a party of three rather than just a pairing. Hackett didn't mind one bit. He wasn't one of those people who didn't like company. As long as Rock wasn't one of the diplomats on on the Citadel or interrupting his work, he was welcome in Hackett's presence whenever.

It was pretty obvious that Arc was thrilled with this concept too, as he let out a little 'whoopee!' and spun in a circle once Rock agreed to go with them.

"This way, this way!" Arc said, indicating which way he wanted to go. Hackett wasn't even sure if his chosen trail was going to lead them to the castle, but he fell in step behind his nephew anyways. As much as Arc really wanted to explore the castle, which was the driving force behind their visit here, as long as he got some sort of enjoyment out of it, it probably didn't even matter if they made to the castle.

But, Hackett would make sure they get there, somehow, if only so Arc could have what he wanted.

The street they entered was brightly lit - the sunlight made sure of that - but there were only a couple of people walking around on it. They didn't look dangerous, so Hackett didn't feel the need to rest his hand on the pistol that hung from his waist.

He was still on alert, though. In Radiant Garden, one could never be sure when the heartless might show up.

Arc darted off, and Rock gave a smile at his enthusiasm regarding going to the castle. Together, they headed off down the streets, following after the little Luma as he went about. They eventually made it to a street that was brightly lit but wasn’t that crowded with people. Rock wasn’t entirely aware of all the streets in Radiant Garden, but he imagined even if they got lost, they’d still find something to occupy their time.

“You’re good at leading the way, Arc!” Rock commented as they continued on their way through the street and down toward what seemed to be a ruined area of the town. “I think this is the way! Of course, I’ve never been in it. I just know the things I’ve heard about it.”

There were all kinds of rumours surrounding the castle. There were people who said that it was haunted, others who said that darkness teemed inside of it. Rumours like that people hid in its walls and there was likely blood everywhere. All the typical rumours one would imagine came with a castle left abandoned, in shambles and left empty save for a glowing man and his strange roommates.

Arc bobbed in the air as he led the way along the street. When he heard Rock speak, he turned to float backwards. "I'm good at navigating!" he piped. "Uncle Steven lets me navigate the ship from the Citadel to the Earth and I haven't messed it up once!"

As Arc turned to face forward again, Hackett had to bow his head, the brim of his military hat partially blocking out the view of his face just in case Arc looked at him. That statement caused Hackett to smile. It was true, though. The pathway from the Citadel to the planet wasn't too difficult nor was it long. Hackett had been on several longer and more difficult trips through space, so it was easy for him to gauge. But, the young Luma was picking up how to navigate an Alliance vessel, even if he couldn't actually control it himself since it was built for humans and not someone like him. That in and of itself was impressive.

Their pathway took a few more turns down the street. Only once did Hackett glimpse what he thought was a Heartless in a side alley. When he took a second look, it was gone.

Before long, they were before the castle. Hackett heard there were people who lived there, but not much else. He also heard Heartless still lurked in the castle, though he assumed that it was fairly difficult to keep them out of any one place and there was only so much a security system could do, especially in a largely abandoned castle.

"Let's find the door," he said, turning to walk along the outer wall.
