Just ignore them.

Ignore them, Talho.

Trying to keep that in mind, she went back to scanning through the crowd, trying to spot a bright orange shirt or the familiar stripes to Ninten’s own t-shirt. It was a difficult task. More than once, she thought she had seen the white, blue and red stripes, but it turned out to be a different kid. She didn’t let that bring her down, however. One case of mistaken identity wasn’t going to stop her.

“Let me know if you see an obnoxious orange shirt,” Talho said to Dylas. “It’s what I’ve been keeping an eye out for. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of people that wear that shade like Rhyme does.” As far as she had seen, at least.

The people were still working their way up toward Talho and Dylas, though now they had noticed they had been spotted, so they were trying to be discreet. They really weren’t doing a good job of it, but she wasn’t about to start making comments.

"Right." Dylas had seen people wear orange before, so he assumed that the shirt in question had to stand out from all others in some way. Maybe it was just that particular shade of orange. Some shades of orange were subtle, while others were... loud.

No loud orange shirts so far, but those guys were still approaching them. Even while he was scanning the street for the kids, Dylas kept the group in his peripheral vision. It was clear that those people knew that they had been spotted, and they were trying to not be so noticeable. They were failing pretty badly at it. What the hell were they doing?

"Let's move," he said to Talho. "We'll have a better chance of spotting 'em if we cover more ground." Even within this one area, there were a lot of places two kids could be. If that group had the nerve to follow them, then...

Now with both Dylas and Talho keeping an eye out for an obnoxious orange shirt, this should hopefully mean that together, they would find the children more quickly. The sooner they found Ninten and Rhyme, the sooner they could leave and get away from that group that had taken to following them. She knew for certain she didn’t want any freaks around her young son. No, siree. The only people she even allowed near him were the Network and a select few outside of that.

Right now, Dylas had earned himself a spot on that list, if only because he was helping her find the two delinquents that had wandered off. Talho will worry about White later, and besides, sooner or later that girl would pop up all clueless about what had happened. Right now, she was going to worry about the two younger ones. White was old enough to fend for herself.

Besides, she highly doubted White’s Samurott and Reuniclus would appreciate strangers touching their trainer.

“Right, let’s move on from this spot,” Talho commented once Dylas had suggested changing the scenery. “I don’t see Rhyme anywhere around here at least.” Wherever she was, Ninten was sure to follow right now. They rarely strayed when they were together.

As soon as they began to wander off to a different area, the people behind them began to discreetly begin to move on as well. They were still trying to put on the front of a couple of people loitering, but Talho knew better. She had to wonder. What were they after…? What could they gain from following them?

As they moved to another area, Dylas could see that the group was still following them. Seriously, what the hell did they want with them? There were easier targets around if they were looking for someone to rob. Did they want Talho? Her son? Him? He wasn't sure if Talho had done anything to draw such unwanted followers, and Dylas wouldn't harass anyone unless they were stupid enough to bother him first.

He knew the two idols he usually traveled with were targeted by some anti-entertainment group, but they wouldn't be going after him. Would they?

All this thinking and not knowing the truth was becoming frustrating, and Dylas was starting to lose his patience.

"They're not even talking..." he grumbled out loud, although he only raised his voice loud enough for Talho to hear. Dylas was still keeping his eyes peeled for an orange shirt. "Can't listen in on their chatter, even if I tried..." Damn people. Couldn't they just go away and leave the two of them to their search?

Dylas was obviously as concerned about their unwanted followers as Talho was. There were a number of reasons she could think of as to why they were being followed, but the main one that came up was in relation to a certain little girl with a bell. She knew Rhyme had been kidnapped once before, thanks in part to something regarding ‘Calamity’ and being a Victor for it. But, hadn’t that all died down?

At least, she had hoped that it had.

“Maybe if we look boring enough, they’ll back off,” Talho snapped, not at all impressed that they were still being tailed. “… Rhyme was a Victor for Calamity, but I thought all the issues with that had been cleared up, especially after the only attempt at kidnapping her.”

Wes had been there, as had Dr. Eggman. Wes she knew. Dr. Eggman she had heard of from Rhyme herself, shortly after she had arrived on this world with Adroc. Rhyme had also mentioned one of her other saviors that day – a Major Alex Louis Armstrong. With a name like that, and with the basic description she had been given, it was no surprise that the kidnapping and barely even lasted an evening. Rhyme was an easy target, but she was also well-looked out for.

“If Ninten were here, we could get him to read their minds,” she lamented. “But, the kid’s still MIA.” It was then that she saw a flash of orange in the distance, and she sharply turned her head. Something pink was running around, too. Was that Ring Tone…?

"If she's a Victor, then she's still a target. Rumors about 'em have gotten pretty outta hand." Dylas was sure that everyone with that title were subject to some pretty high bounties for... some reason. The Goddess favored them, or whatever. Maybe she did. But Calamity's done and over with. Chatting about who was there and hyping them up into people that they weren't was completely stupid.

Like these people who were following them. Stupid.

Dylas spotted a flash of color - orange and pink, possibly belonging to the ones they were looking for. And he had noticed that Talho had spotted it, too. "Let's go that way... but don't look like we're actually looking for someone over there." If those guys back there noticed, and if they were actually after Rhyme...

Going after a kid just because of some event she was involved in, possibly not by choice. Dylas hated the people he was stuck sharing this planet with sometimes.

It was ridiculous that, even after so long, the buzz that Calamity and all its Victors had caused was still a topic of discussion. It was crazy for her to comprehend that the seven Victors were still targets of bounties. That somewhere in this world, someone would take a child – a twelve-year-old girl – and stalk and follow her from time to time, with the full intention of getting paid. Children should be kept out of things like this.

Talho had seen the results of including children in things that they shouldn’t be. She hated that Rhyme was wrapped up in all this, but there was nothing that she could do about it. For now, they had to locate her and Ninten, and act as if they weren’t on to the people that were following them.

But god, she wanted to shoot them in the shins so hard. She just couldn’t do that with Adroc hanging off her in his carry harness. It’d be bad for his ears.

… She should have gotten a babysitter for this trip.

“Right,” Talho confirmed, and they went off in the direction. She tried her best to act the part, focusing on Adroc for a moment as she ran a hand across his head. He seemed to be doing okay, despite everything that was going on. She was glad – once this was all over, she’ll pass him onto Holland. She was certain that he needed some time with his father after all this. “This is ridiculous… Rhyme is twelve for god’s sake.”

And lo and behold, standing there in the crowd, feeding her Sylveon what seemed to be a treat of some kind was Rhyme. There was no sign of Ninten right away – but closer inspection confirmed that he was by a stall, seeming to purchase… something. It didn’t look bad, so Talho wasn’t about to bark at him for it. Right now they were trying to be discreet. She could scold the two of them later, after everything was dealt with.

While they were walking, Dylas did his best to look like he wasn't interested in anyone except for the kids that he and Talho were looking for. He even looked somewhat bored, as if he was getting tired of trying to track down two kids who could be anywhere in this place. In truth, though, he kept his ears trained on the sounds behind them, waiting to see if those idiots continued following them.

At least they were making progress. They found both of the kids and the girl's Pokemon without too much trouble. What Dylas had set out to help Talho with was done... well, not quite. They still had to deal with one more thing.

"So what do you wanna do about those guys?" The ones that were still following them. Since Talho had more than just herself to worry about, she ought to decide just how they were going to get away from them. If she wanted Dylas to go distract them for a moment, he could do so. He could handle a bunch of thugs easily enough.

They had found Rhyme and Ninten. Right now, that had finally managed to get out of Talho’s head, and she turned to Dylas when he asked what she wanted to do with their little followers. She couldn’t do much herself, not with her son with her. She’d have to put him down, maybe with the kids before she could even think of firing her pistol. But, she’d prefer that this is handled in a way that didn’t disturb the public.

“If we weren’t in public, and I didn’t have Adroc, I’d attack them outright,” she admitted. “We need to figure out a way to get rid of them in a way that won’t freak other people out.” Even luring them into an alley would work. “Maybe taking them somewhere else…?”

For a moment, Talho grew quiet, looking down at the baby in his carrier hanging off of her. She really regretted bringing him along this time. Knowing that she wouldn’t be able to do much with Adroc with her, there grew the question of what she would be able to do at all about their little stalkers. Taking him over to be watched by Rhyme and Ninten would draw attention to Rhyme. It would be all three of them in danger.

Of course, they had Ring Tone, but Talho felt that even the Sylveon wouldn’t be enough to defend them.

Since these guys were so bent on following them for whatever reason, it should be easy to lure them away from here and to somewhere else. Talho had the right idea. Luckily for them, they had plenty of alleys to choose from. They just needed to make sure they didn't get caught between two groups of these creeps.

"We can lose 'em in the alleys," he said. "We get 'em to follow us for a time, then confuse 'em on where exactly we're heading. Then we can slip out once they lost track of us." It had its own risks, but it seemed like a better idea than confronting them in public, or leading them to Talho's other kids.

They just had to be careful - and creative - on how they went about this.

Talho was quiet as Dylas began to make a suggestion on how to lose their little followers. It didn’t involve violence, which considering she had Adroc with her, it was a plan she could get behind. As long as they looked like they weren’t heading off to meet other people – one of whom was the child that won the sixth Calamity game – they could lose these guys and they’d have to start over on their next attempt on a Victor.

And then she was taking Ninten and Rhyme and getting back to the Axolotl in time for Adroc’s nap, and not letting these two kids out of her sight ever again. Maybe she’ll invite Dylas along for the ride, too.

“Sounds good to me,” she voiced. “Let’s do it. And once we’re out of this mess, we can get the heck out of this city and never look back.” It was a very appealing proposition to her, but she knew that it was hoping just a tad too much. If White never returned, she’d likely have to come back to try and locate her again, too. That girl had a tendency to fall off the edge of the earth. “Let’s go.”

With that, Talho began making way to the nearest alley.

Alright, now they were going to do something about these guys. Dylas hoped that they could pull this off without any problems. If they couldn't, then they might have a fight on their hands. He didn't have a problem with that, but Talho was carrying her kid. If they did run into trouble and fighting wasn't an option, then they were going to have to run.

Dylas didn't like running from a fight, but under these circumstances, he understood that he might have to.

When Talho started to walk, he followed after her, being an obstacle for those guys to get through if they decided to screw following and attack them right here and now. Luckily, they didn't. They just followed after them from what they probably thought was a safe distance. Good. Those guys were going to regret wasting everyone's time like this.

"They're still not talking," he reported, slightly annoyed that his sharp hearing couldn't really help them right now. "But they're following."

“Keep going,” Talho muttered. “We might lose them.”

With that, she led on, weaving through the alleys and the back streets. The men behind them followed like idiots, clearly still hoping that they’ll lead them to a Victor, or whatever they were after. Honestly, Talho stopped caring ages ago. She wanted this to be done, and now that she knew where the kids were, all bets were off. The only reason she hadn’t gotten violent was that she had Adroc with her.

And that was when the world around her began to suspiciously shift. Suddenly, the walls disappeared or were replaced, or other walls appeared where they hadn’t been before. Talho stopped, realizing what was going on.

“Illusions,” she voiced, glancing around for the sight of a small fox. “White had a Zorua with her, she might have wandered off and just found us.”

If White’s Zorua was here, then trying to get rid of these guys would become a lot easier.

“Zorua and their evolved form are able to create and use illusions to cast off predators, or any kind of jackasses like these ones,” Talho further explained, just as the snickering fox came into view near them. “I guess you’re here to help, aren’t you?”

White’s Zorua snickered, just as the sounds of two men complaining about banging into a wall sounded from afar.

And so they went through the alleys, turning down new paths almost randomly. The longer the walk took, the louder the footsteps behind them became. Those guys were losing some of their patience. Dylas was able to track them then, but soon he noticed that there was something off about their surroundings...

And he became sure of it when the walls actually started to shift.

Talho then explained the abilities of the small fox Pokemon that came into view. "Those idiots don't realize what they're in for, huh..." Dylas commented, stepping over to a wall that wasn't actually there. Electricity crackled on his fingers before he flicked his hand, and a small bolt of lightning shot from it and through the illusion, bouncing off the real walls beyond as it made its way down through the alley.

Silence, then a pained yelp far off from the original pair of voices.

"They've split up, probably thinking they could cut us off somehow." Probably not going to help at this rate. Those guys couldn't even tell which walls were real now.
