Aden
© Jen // CURRENTLY Offline

Aden knew that this wasn't exactly the nicest place on the Eastern Continent to be. But he didn't have to worry about all the crooks who lived around here. What could they possibly do to Ymir? The Plant Golem towered over the town and could easily wipe it out with a few steps. Not that he would, of course - Ymir wasn't that kind of golem, and Aden wasn't that kind of person.

Besides, everyone who didn't want to drown were currently holed up their houses - or whatever other building they had access to - leaving the two on their own.

Aden stood at the top of his golem, trying to use a pair of binoculars to find the strange monster they had followed all the way here. The rain pouring down in a relentless onslaught made the attempt pointless, so he finally dropped the binoculars back in the proper case on his belt. Wherever that creature went, it had disappeared into the storm, and it was nearly impossible to find it now.

Did they go all this way for nothing?

"We should head back!" Aden called to his companion, his voice almost drowned out by the thunder that rumbled in the dark sky above. Ymir heard him anyway and started to move, slowly turning around in the marsh. Water and mud rose up from his footsteps in great waves, but the soggy terrain was reluctant to let go of the heavy creature that was walking through it.

Once Ymir got onto more solid ground, he should move faster. That was the one positive thought that Aden had about this. He was soaked to the bone, but there was still a chance he might catch sight of the monster that had eluded them earlier. So instead of heading into the barn where it was warm and dry, he stood out there on his golem, peering through the storm.

Just until they got out of this area. Then he would call it quits, even if he didn't really want to.

Phew, it was really coming down! It was lucky that Lloyd was riding on Suicune. He had streams of water running down the front of his glasses and he couldn't really see much of what was going on in front of him. Suicune was now leading the way since it just made it more convenient. It was also convenient that Lloyd had gotten this nice new raincoat from his friend, Sable. He had gone to Raftfleet with Holland, who had paid the nice hedgehog to make him a raincoat, seeing as Lloyd didn't have one yet He would have been soaked through otherwise!

Lloyd carefully reached up and used one finger to try and wipe his glasses, but it didn't work out so well. It kind of smudged them, actually. Oh well. At least, he had remembered to wear some gloves too. His fingers might have been freezing otherwise.

"We're somewhere near Thieves' Landing, right?" Lloyd asked. He saw Suicune bob her head, and he assumed that meant she was saying he was right. That meant that he wasn't totally at a lost of where they were. That was nice.

Something large and shadowy came into view, and Lloyd gave a small gasp. "What's that?"

Suicune started slowing down as she got closer to it. The soggy ground beneath her feet trembled as it moved. And, it was gigantic! Was it dangerous though? Lloyd hoped not. It wouldn't go good for them if it was evil and was out to get them.

This weather really sucked. Maybe heading out here wasn't the best idea, but both Aden and Ymir had been in worse weather before, so they just had to keep heading towards home. Hopefully, it wasn't raining this badly over there, too.

Maybe it wasn't. This end of the Eastern Continent just happened to have a reputation of being really wet and muddy.

Ymir had just stepped onto ground that he wasn't sinking down as much in. So far, so good. That was when Aden noticed something standing down there. Unlike most of the creatures that spotted Ymir walking along, it wasn't fleeing. And it wasn't the monster they were chasing before. Huh. What was it?

"Hey, Ymir!" he yelled over the rain. "See that?" Fortunately, the golem did, and immediately did what he assumed Aden wanted - stop in his tracks and lean down, extending his arm to the ground. Aden quickly climbed up and ran down along it, being very careful not to slip. He stopped once he reached the golem's fingers.

Standing on the soggy ground without sinking in was a creature he had never seen before. Even with the broken crest, she sure looked majestic. Less majestic was the boy sitting on her back. A kid in a raincoat.

"Heeeey!" Aden called, waving one of his arms. "You guys! Need a lift?" Or maybe they needed somewhere dry to stay for a while. Or both. In any case, Ymir had all of that and it wouldn't be nice to let them travel through this area without asking if they needed anything. Nobody should be out here in this weather if they could help it.

Lloyd had to admit that he was surprised when someone on the large beast started calling out to them. He hadn't been expecting that at all. Was it some sort of tamer? He was pretty sure that the thing wasn't a Pokemon - Black had shown him his Pokedex before and the only thing that was remotely close to this was Golurk, like the one that White had - but Lloyd had always wondered if there were other worlds that had monsters that they looked after in a similar way.

But, he couldn't just sit there gawking. He needed to answer!

"Hello!" he called out. He wondered if his voice was getting lost in the bad weather around him. He hoped that he was getting across clearly. Suicune got a little closer before she stopped altogether. Probably for safety reasons until she was sure this person they were now communicating with was safe for him to be around. "We could probably use a ride!"

Or, at least he could. Suicune was probably just at home in the rain around them.

Okay, so they might need a ride? Aden thought that the creature the boy was riding looked at home out here. The boy might need a break from being out in all this water, though, even with the raincoat. Well, they were welcome to hang out on Ymir if they wanted to. Better than being down on the ground in this storm.

"Come on up, then!" he replied, before scrambling back up Ymir's arm, landing back on the flat space just in front of the barn's doors. Aden looked down and waved again, just in case the two hadn't seen where he had gone. They should be able to get up here the same way he had, as long as the creature was careful where she stepped. Ymir hadn't moved an inch, patiently waiting until he had all his passengers.

The rain was getting even worse now and Aden didn't think he could stay out here for any longer. He pushed the doors to the barn open, and the light from within flooded out through the doorway, a guide of sorts for those still at ground level. Stepping into the warm, empty room - all the monsters were back on the farm - he took off his hat and wrung it out. Tossing it to the side, he peered back out, waiting for the others.

Lloyd was honestly relieved that this guy was willing to let him hang out on his big monster thingy with him to wait out the rain. Lloyd wasn't even sure how long the rain would last for, but he just wanted to get out of it. He didn't think Suicune would feel as enthusiastic about getting out of it as he did, but she was made for water. Little boys like him weren't.

Suicune went towards the monster, looking up at it for a moment before she bounded up the arm the way the boy had gone. Lloyd had to hold on pretty tightly so he wouldn't fall off her back. That could have turned out really poorly, though he was pretty sure he wasn't going to hit the ground before Suicune would have caught him.

They reached the door to what looked like a strange barn, and Lloyd slid off Suicune's back. He peeked up at the guy as he got inside. Suicune shook off before going inside as well. She was still wet - who knew how long it would actually take to dry - but she was far less likely to drip water everywhere. Lloyd took his hood down and looked up at the guy.

"Thank you," he said. "I'm Lloyd. And, this is my buddy, Suicune." She bowed her head in acknowledgement and thanks. to the guy.

"No problem," Aden replied, nodding. There wasn't anyone he would leave out in this weather if he could help it. "I'm Aden, and the big guy we're currently standing inside of is Ymir. He's a Plant Golem." He knew that didn't really explain much. Golems were common enough in the world he was from, but giant ones like Ymir... well, that was another story. Aden was sure that Ymir was probably the only one of his kind on this planet.

He closed the doors, feeling a slight shift as Ymir stood up straight and began walking again, trudging through the soggy earth. This weather didn't bother the golem much. Aden even suspected that he liked being out there in all that water.

"We're heading back to Saturn Valley," the Earthmate then explained, turning his gaze back to Lloyd and Suicune. "I run a farm there with a friend of mine. I sure hope it's not raining as much over there as it is here." The crops needed rain, but not this much rain. Too much rain could cause a lot of problems to a field.

Saturn Valley was some distance away from this end of the continent, though. It got some rain, but not enough that the crops - and Calcifer - would have any problems with it.

Aden. And Ymir. Lloyd glanced back at the doors. He hadn't been sure if the big thing they were riding on would have had a name, but it was nice that it did. It gave it kind of a personality feeling, if that made any sense at all. As if it really was alive - which clearly it was since it was moving and all that and Aden had called it a golem, so it wasn't just a machine.

Oh, Lloyd was just confusing himself now.

"Saturn Valley sounds like a good place to go," Lloyd agreed. "I know Rosalina who lives there. I'm sure she wouldn't mind if we hung out with her and the Lumas while we wait to come get picked up." He would have to call Holland, who would have to come by with the airship, but it was a lot easier than trying to go back to Dunwall to get a boat back to the other continent.

Besides, Lloyd wasn't a fan of Dunwall. It was a creepy city to be in, at least to him.

Lloyd took his raincoat off. "Is there a place for me to hang this?" he asked, looking around. He thought he'd better ask before he just did it, just to be polite.

"Yeah, there's some hooks and stuff right there." Aden pointed to the wall beside them. Then he took his own coat off, nudged an empty bucket closer with his foot and started to wring out the water he had collected from being out there. His coat was waterproof to a point, and he was out in that rain for a while. It would have a lot more water in it than Lloyd's raincoat.

Once he got out most of the water, Aden hung his coat up, then dropped his hat onto the same hook. There were enough hooks for his gear, Lloyd's, and more. Since he didn't have to keep his monsters in this barn all the time anymore, Aden had been reorganizing some of the stuff he kept in it. He made sure he had everything he needed in case he was out in the middle of nowhere with a legit reason to not just head home right away.

"You can hang out on the farm for a while if you want, but I'm pretty sure Rosalina would be happy to see you, too." And even if she currently wasn't home, she wouldn't mind if Lloyd and Suicune dropped by and stayed at her place. Rosalina was like that - a strange lady, but really nice. She was building this entire place in the canyon to race on, just so she could go racing with her friends. The last time Aden spoke to her, she said she was pretty much done. It just needed a few minor adjustments.

Lloyd had carefully undone his raincoat - Sable had made it for him and he wanted to make sure that he kept it in as good of a condition as he could muster - and hung it up on the hook that Aden had indicated he was able to use. He didn't have much on him, but that was probably because he was used to traveling light. Even when he was adventuring with Ninten and Ana, Lloyd never carried anything on him except for what they would really need. Other things would slow him down.

"Thanks a lot," he said to Aden. Had he thanked him yet? He should be thanking Aden a whole lot, really. It wasn't necessary for him to give Lloyd shelter (Suicune didn't need shelter, Lloyd was sure. She'd be content in the rain and was only in here because of him). It was really kind of him to let them be here.

And, he was going to take them to see Rosalina and the Lumas and the Mr. Saturns, which was even more kind of him. He didn't need to do any of that.

Before he was able to thank Aden yet again, his tummy growled. Lloyd felt his cheeks go pink. He hadn't eaten in a while, but he thought he wouldn't be making noises like this. It was kind of super embarrassing really...

"Again, no problem," Aden replied with a grin. It wasn't any trouble to him if he picked up a few guests on the way back home. Besides, it wasn't everyday that a kid got to ride a golem this huge. Lloyd would remember Ymir for sure. Of course, Ymir left a lasting impression on people who even just looked at him.

So far, they hadn't gotten any unwanted attention, at least...

Lloyd's stomach growled and the Earthmate chuckled. "Hungry, huh?" The kid didn't have to be embarrassed about it. "Got some food here. If you don't think you can hold out until we get home, I can find you a snack or something." Once they were back on the farm, though, Aden would be happy to cook something for them. He had a kitchen with the entire works and a lot of ingredients, many of which were right from the farm.

Cooking was something Aden had found he was good at, although he had done a lot of practice until he got the hang of it. Since moving here, he hadn't really gotten the opportunity to cook for anyone else besides Calcifer, their monsters, and Rosalina and her family.

Lloyd was relieved when Aden didn't scold him over being hungry out of the blue. It might have seemed odd to some people, but Lloyd had known plenty of adults who thought that it was perfectly possible for children his age to be able to control their hunger, no matter when it was that they had last eaten. Lloyd had thought it was silly because, of course, you couldn't necessarily control when your body decided you were hungry, but he had never spoken those sentiments out loud to anyone.

"Thanks," he said. He was repeating himself again, wasn't he? He wasn't doing it for the same reason, though. He was thanking Aden for a completely different reason right now. "A snack would be really nice. I haven't eaten since breakfast and breakfast was forever ago."

That was a bit of an exaggeration of course. Lloyd hadn't even lived forever, and he was pretty sure that that wasn't possible for him!

Lloyd wandered a bit farther into the barn, but he still felt uncertain. It was kind of like visiting a schoolmate's house for the first time. At least, Suicune was with him. She followed after him, closely enough that he felt a lot of comfort in her presence.

"Gotcha." Breakfast was only several hours ago at most, but it could really feel like forever ago on an empty stomach. Especially for kids. Leaving Lloyd and Suicune to wander around the barn, Aden went to where he kept his food supply. He dug around, seeing what he currently had with him. Most of what he had were quick things he could eat without spending too much time preparing them. He did keep a few ingredients on hand, though, in case he wanted to whip up something quick.

"What do you feel like having?" he then asked. "Got some fruit, cookies, an apple pie I made before going on this trip... I think I got enough bread left for some sandwiches. And these, too." Aden briefly held up a bag of potato chips. He bought them a few days ago, just in case he felt like having them. He should've just made his own. Bet they would taste better that way.

Most things did.

Lloyd seemed easy enough to find food for, unless he was one of those kids who was extremely picky. Aden doubted it. What he wasn't sure about was what Suicune would like to eat - he wasn't familiar with her kind and sometimes, creatures that looked similar could have completely different diets.

Lloyd hadn't expected that Aden would have so many choices for him to choose from when they were in a barn of all places. He had thought maybe there would be some sort of vegetables that a person would have grown on a farm. But, he was kind of pleasantly surprised with it.

Lloyd had never been a picky eater because he knew that it was important for kids to eat whatever it was that their parents put on the tables for them since their parents worked hard to be able to feed them. And, it wasn't like his parents had ever tried to feed him anything that he shouldn't have been eating. Sure, some of it would have been disgusting to his taste buds, but he still was capable of eating it, and it was healthy for him. That was why he was a healthy boy now.

"Can we have sandwiches maybe?" he asked. He had always liked sandwiches. He ate them for lunch a lot when he was at the airship. Quickly, he added, "If it's not too much trouble." He felt Suicune's nose against his back. "Do you maybe have anything that Suicune can eat, as well?"

Sometimes, Lloyd wasn't completely sure what the Pokemon were able to eat. They seemed to have different diets at times.

"Sure." If sandwiches were what Lloyd wanted, then that was what he was going to get. Aden retrieved the bread from where he had stored it. It was part of a loaf he had baked the other day, still fresh. With his cooking skills, he didn't have to go out and buy bread. "What kind of sandwiches were you thinking of?" If they were lucky, then Aden had everything that Lloyd would want in his sandwich. If not, then they would just have to figure out something else.

"Also, what kind of food does Suicune eat?" Aden didn't want to give her anything that would give her a stomachache. He was always careful when feeding different things to the monsters on the farm, but they made sure to tell him what they liked and didn't like beforehand. So far, he hadn't had any trouble with feeding Calcifer, but the fire would probably eat just about anything as long as it tasted good to him.

Suicune was, of course, a creature Aden had never seen before. She clearly wasn't a monster from his world, and he wanted to make sure he knew what kind of food she ate before giving her anything.
