There was definitely nothing in this room that was worthy of their interest, unless they wanted to root through things that people deemed not important so they stored them away in a room like this. Hackett cared little for other people's personal artifacts. It wasn't because he thought himself above them, but he knew things could have meaning to a person when they weren't things of monetary value. He had plenty of things that another person would think of as trash. There was no reason for them to search through all of this.

He heard Rock say something about the door. They had moved far enough away from each other that Rock's voice sounded almost like an echo in the large room. He went towards where he was able to see the boy's lit eyes and stepped out into the hallway.

There was definitely something eerie about this hallway. It was obvious it wasn't a hallway used very often by the people who lived here.

Hackett didn't necessarily believe in ghosts, at least back home. In this world, he was more open minded as he knew some places did have ghosts. Did they exist here? He wasn't sure and there was always the possibility of heartless milling around somewhere. It seemed like they were able to get into anywhere.

"I guess there's nothing to do but go forward," Hackett said. He indicated for Rock to lead the way since he himself was able to see over the kid's head.

Rock felt a little creeped out. A distinct feeling of fear and anxiety began to register, likely the result of being in an unfamiliar and dark place. The rumours of ghosts and moving shadows, plus the one he might have witnessed already, did very little to ease the feelings away. He’ll just have to work through it, as he did when he went up against Wily.

“Yeah,” Rock agreed, and he stepped up ahead and into the hallway, glancing around. Perhaps this particular hallway didn’t lead to anything of value, or at least of any major part of the castle. It was obvious that it hadn’t seen much action in a very long time.

For a while, they stepped down but saw nothing. Or, at least, that was what it seemed. Rock was unable to relax because of the feeling of fear. Eventually, they came before a large door, and Rock pushed on it. Unfortunately, it did not budge. Which, truthfully, was odd, as he was a pretty strong little robot, but it did make him wish he had Guts Man’s power at the moment.

“… Do you think maybe it’s stuck?”

Hackett walked down the hallway, his gaze looking around the hallway as much as possible. It was interesting architecture here. He was used to the shine of the Citadel or Alliance spaceship, or even the streets of Bueno Aires where he grew up before he joined the academy once he was old enough. This place was different than either one, though it wasn't overtly spectacular. There was still something special and unique about it.

That, and it was possibly haunted. Hackett glanced back over his shoulder, though he saw nothing but the trail of dust he and Rock were leaving on the floor.

Arc, of course, was leaving no marks on the ground as he was floating. He was awfully quiet for the little Luma, Hackett noted. He was floating in the space between Rock and Hackett, and was looking around at everything. Hackett couldn't see his face, but he could imagine the look of interest and wonder that was probably on his face.

They reached a door that Rock tried moving, but it wouldn't budge. Hackett knew if a well built robot like Rock couldn't move it, an older human man like him wouldn't be able to do it either.

"It could be stuck," he said, moving his flashlight around in an attempt to try and see anything wrong with it. He couldn't find anything. "Should we see if we can open it?" he asked.

"Yeah, let's open it," Arc said, floating over to the door. He gave it his own try to open it, pushing against it. Of course, it didn't give way for him, either. He seemed disappointed.

So, none of them could open the door?

The idea caused Rock to huff and childishly cross his arms, trying to figure out a way to open it. They wanted to keep exploring the castle, but if they couldn’t make their way any further than this spot, then what were they to do next? For a moment, he humoured the idea of blowing the door down, but that was when he realized something.

“It might be blocked, by a big box or something… Or maybe you have to pull instead of push?” He tapped his chin, trying to work out a means to get through their dilemma. “There’s got to be a way to get through… One that won’t break anything, anyway.” But how?

Maybe, this wasn’t the only door? By that, he wondered that maybe, just maybe, there were more holes in the wall. Fallen debris and worn down wallpaper lined the walls, but there was the chance that there was another opening like there had been from the outside.

But that was only a theory…

Throughout Hackett's long (and illustrious, though he would never personally call it that) military career, there were times when being a biotic would have come incredibly handy. This was probably one of those times. A technique like Pull or Lift might have given them the ability to get that door open. He wasn't a biotic, though. He never got the necessary implants for it since he never wanted it, neither as an adult or a child. As a child, he was simply too poor to even afford them. By the time he got to military school, physical combat with hand-to-hand and guns were his specialty. He learned some tech skills as well, but he didn't think they were going to come in handy here.

Unless this door was a geth. He might have been able disable it. But, it clearly wasn't. He spent enough time fighting geth to know exactly what they looked like.

But, Rock was right. If they couldn't go through one way, they could find another way in. That was something military school failed to tell you - thee was always more than one way in. Sure, maybe there wasn't exactly a door that they could enter, but there was always something.

"Let's follow this hallway and see if there's any way in," Hackett said. "Another crack in the wall even works." That was how they got in the castle to begin with. Why couldn't there be more?

They made their decision!

Hackett suggested going down the hallway to find another way in. It could potentially be anything, Rock figured – another crack in a wall, maybe a door that wasn’t blocked, or even a smashed window. He’d seen schools and other buildings that had windows along the inside walls so you could see into the rooms – he wasn’t sure if that was a common practice, but it was one all the same.

“Here’s hoping that we manage to get somewhere!” Rock chimed cheerfully, beginning to lead the way down the hallway. He didn’t want their adventure cut short because they couldn’t explore any further. Castles were supposed to be full of mystery and wonder, and yet they hadn’t even managed to get past one home.

For a moment, the hallway was turning out to be the same as the other one. It was dark and their main sources of light were Rock’s eyes and Hackett’s flashlight. That was when Rock finally found a crumbled in section of the wall, one that was big enough for him to crawl through, and he looked up at the Admiral.

“Do you think you could fit in through here?” He pointed at the crack and stepped back to allow the Admiral to give it a look over.

They had a new plan of action. Good. Hackett knew they weren't exactly on an Alliance mission where he needed to take what they were doing extremely seriously, but he wasn't one for twiddling his thumbs and hoping things went his way. If they wanted to see in that room - and now even he was curious as to what was in it, possibly because he wasn't able to get into it right away - they were going to have to find another way in.

"We're finding a doooooor~!" Arc sang, following after Rock down the hallway. Even with the darkness around them, Hackett was able to see Arc just fine. He didn't even need to shine his flashlight on the small Luma. He gave off a bit of his own glow. Hackett thought maybe it was supposed to be starlight or something, but he didn't question it out loud. He wasn't one of those guys who cared for silly, fancy things like fairytales and that was what starlight like this sounded like to him.

He followed the other two around until Rock found a crack. Hackett shined his flashlight on it, looking it over.

"I should," he said. He went over, kneeled down, and carefully squeezed his body through. It wasn't a too tight a fit for him. Despite him getting on in years, he was still decently fit and he had never been an overly big guy anyways. He left all those large muscles to the other soldiers. He didn't need them. He didn't even mind the dirt that crawling would get on his uniform. Uniforms could be washed.

"I'm through," he said once he was on the other side. Nothing attacked him, which was a good sign. Arc floated in after him, bobbing in the air. Then, they waited for Rock.

Well, that was good! Hackett could fit through the hole, meaning they could continue their investigation of this castle. Once his two companions were through and waiting for him on the other side, Rock got down and slipped through as well.

The new area was just as dark as the rest of the castle they had been through so far. It was just as eerie, too. Maybe none of this castle was all that friendly looking, and maybe it was haunted. It certainly matched the kind of stuff that Rock would expect in a movie or a cartoon. He imagined that it would not be out of place for a low wailing noise to play.

“Okay,” Rock began as he tried to get a feel or where they were going to go next. “Anyone have any idea where to go next?” There seemed to be some openings to let them go further, but he didn’t like the look of the shadows in this room.

They were a little eerie, like the rest of the place.

The area they were in didn't look any better than the place they had just left. It really was enforcing the idea that this place did not have the maintenance it deserved or needed to look the way it once was. Hackett wasn't too surprised about that, if the sayings that the people who lived here were very few. Hackett knew a fair bit about maintaining large residences like this, and they took a whole lot of people to make them spic and span.

"I don't know if I trust this place too much," Hackett said. "Clearly, this is a part of the castle no one goes to, otherwise they would have cleared this out." And, had working lights. They probably wouldn't even be allowed to come here in it was lived in over here.

But, that also meant since they were able to come in here, then anyone was able to come in here as well.

Hackett drew his gun out, holding it easily in his hand as if it was made for him. Technically, it was. While his gun was standard issue with the Alliance Systems, his particular one was made for him. Being an admiral meant he got custom made things, but he didn't care too much to get many modifications to the things he had. He was a soldier; he could work with standard issue.

"Let's be cautious as we move forward," he said. Arc came over to float behind Hackett, much like a meat shield but Hackett didn't mind. He picked one of the entry ways and started through it. It was quiet so far, but eerily so.

“If I remember right, there are only one or two people staying here right now, and I think they’re only on the main floor,” Rock said as he moved to step alongside Hackett. As a robot, he wasn’t particularly concerned about getting hit. If it came to it, he’d even jump in front if he had to.

There was the question, though. Were they in here? Or were they going to find… something else? Adventures like this were always so tricky because there were so many variables, and Rock was only programmed to react to so many immediately. If he was truly thrown off guard, he’d freeze up until his systems could calculate a proper move.

His processing software was fast, but any delay could mean harm to those around him.

“… Right.” At Hackett stating that they had to be cautious, Rock gained a brave, somewhat blank expression, his left hand disappearing and changing into his buster. The sooner he was ready, the sooner he could react. So far, the hallway didn’t seem all that dangerous, but the distant sounds of… something tipped Rock off that they were not alone. The problem was, he couldn’t work out what it was.

“… There’s something ahead. I’m not sure what, though, my scanners can’t identify it.”

Arc kept close to Hackett as the two of them moved through the abandoned room. While he was clearly still interested in exploration, he was being cautious and wary like Hackett had said to. That made the admiral pleased, as he knew Arc was still a child and was an extremely curious one at that. But, there could probably be something dangerous in here, and he was willing to listen to make sure they all remained safe. That was a good sign to Hackett that it was alright to take Arc out with him like this.

There were noises ahead, which caused Hackett to slow down. He lifted his own Omni-tool, which rested on his left arm, but his own scanners were having trouble trying to identify what it was, even though it would be able to scan through walls just fine. The Omni-tool's database had been updated over time since coming to this world, and yet it couldn't identify whatever it was that was ahead of them.

Hackett frowned. The scanner's mark kept locking and unlocking on whatever lifeform it was. As if...

"It's appearing and disappearing," he muttered to Rock, keeping his voice low. "It's not stable enough to get a proper scan on it." What did that mean though? Was it teleporting? Was it a ghost? Maybe it was a heartless, going in and out through its shadows. They wouldn't know unless they approached it. And evne then, was it dangerous?

They could turn back, but Hackett would rather deal with it, in case it was malevolent so no one else would accidentally stumble on it. With that in mind, Hackett pressed forward towards it, Arc floating behind his neck.
