What were the rules of magic? Now, that was an interesting question to answer. It was, quite frankly, something that didn't have any true rules at all.

And, yet, Flemeth found herself inside of the Death Weapon Meister Academy where she was supposed to show some senior level students, as well as some guests who were allowed into the Academy, how the magic from her own world worked. Someone had told some of the teachers that a Witch of the Wilds who had lived in the world where the dreaded Deep Roads came from was here in the city now and they had personally looked for her just for this.

She could have refused, of course. She could have set the messenger on fire. The latter would have been much more amusing for her, but she had nothing else to do in Santa Destroy - if there weren't assassinations going on in the street, it seemed like quite a boring city to her to be honest - and she thought it was an interesting way to pass the time.

And, so here she was, in the academy, waiting for the crowd to gather.

They were in a large gathering room. Perhaps a cafeteria. Or a gymnasium. Flemeth didn't know what the difference would even be. She had never had to think about either one. But, she found herself seated on a table - on the table; the chair they had gotten her was uncomfortable to her old bones - where she waited patiently. She had heard they had brought things for her to showcase magic on. She didn't know what those things were.

She assumed she was going to find. And, then she was likely to set them on fire.

But, for now, she waited.

The day started out fairly normally. Nurse Joy dropped Cinnamon off at her school. While she didn't mind finding her own way from Mt. Moon to Santa Destroy and back again, some of her friends were taking the recent string of robot killings quite seriously. Outdoors, she wasn't supposed to be alone for any substantial amount of time. Now there was always someone waiting to take her to school and back again, depending on the day.

Once she got to her school, she learned that there was something special happening today. The famous Witch of the Wilds was actually here, and she was going to teach the students about magic! Cinnamon couldn't do magic, but it would still be interesting to learn, and she never passed an opportunity to learn more about this world that was now her home. She was curious about stuff, even those things that were out of her reach.

As students started to gather in the room set aside for the lesson, Cinnamon stepped in, finding a space near the front of the crowd where she could see. While not a senior student - and not even someone who would normally attend this academy - she was given permission to watch. Her studies included learning about stuff in this world that could seriously harm someone and how to heal the resulting injuries. And magic was dangerous. That was fortunately enough reason for her to come here.

At the front, the witch was sitting on the table, instead of the chair that was beside it. She looked... interesting. A little intimidating, even. But she did look human, although Cinnamon wasn't quite sure if she was.

The crowd was starting to grow bigger, and Flemeth was starting to see more people of unusual appearance. Some of them didn't even fit into the aesthetic of the school, as if they were trying to make it obvious that they didn't normally attend there. Not that Flemeth minded. She didn't look like she belonged here, either. It was almost like they matched.

One in particular caught her eye. She looked like a nurse, but she was very bulky. Almost in design, really. It was possible she was of flesh and blood and was just built that way but Flemeth was certain that she wasn't a living creature. Not in the way many of the other students were.

That interested Flemeth and she got off her seat and made her way over, dropping into the seat next to the girl. People were still coming in, so she had a small amount of time for some chit chat.

"Morning," she said, pleasantly. She gave the girl her best 'I may be a witch but I'm not going to set you on fire' smile. It was something she liked using with humans since they were often trying to run away from her. "You don't like much like a death weapon meister." Her tone was mildly amused when she said it. She wasn't even sure if she knew exactly what a death weapon meister was supposed to be.

To her, the concept soundly greatly ridiculous.

It surprised Cinnamon that the witch would come over and speak to her. She was sure that this lady could find someone more important or interesting to speak to, yet she was using up what time there was left before the lesson to speak to her. The Reploid tilted her head slightly, trying to process what this actually meant, but she nodded when the witch said that she didn't look like the students that this academy had been built for.

"That's because I'm not, miss," she replied politely. "I'm a Reploid designed with healing capabilities. My guardian on this planet saw it fit to make sure that I have some form of education." And that - for her, at least - meant going to school, even if that school happened to be this strange place.

It was working for her, however. Cinnamon had learned quite a lot during her time studying here.

Ah, Flemeth had been right on the money then when she thought that the girl wasn't a regular student of this school. There were other schools in Santa Destroy, of course, but they all seemed to be the regular sorts of schools that humans with nothing fantastical about them. Flemeth saw them as the boring children. They didn't have some sort of lesson plan for children who weren't boring. She assumed many of those types came here.

A Reploid with healing capabilities would most likely fit in best here.

"A Reploid?" Flemeth asked, quirking an eyebrow up. "Is that some sort of robot?" The terminology was similar to her, but she would have to check. Robots simply didn't exist where she was from, and she was always curious to know more about the other types of people in that now coexisted with her in this world.

After all, knowledge was power.

"Yes..." Cinnamon nodded, not at all surprised that the witch hadn't heard the word before. There weren't very many Reploids on the planet, as far as she was aware. "In my world, robots were the ones from the past... the ones who came before us." They weren't as technologically advanced as the Reploids were. But without them... would the Reploids even exist as they did now?

In this world, she was able to meet robots from her world's past, as well as many others who were referred to as robots. Whatever the technology powering them, she treated everyone the same. They were people, and it was wrong to discriminate.

She was happy to have the chance to meet them.

"I haven't been alive for very long, so I still have a lot to learn." Most humans here have been alive for years. Some people have been alive for centuries. Cinnamon felt like she had a lot of catching up to do.

So, a Reploid was a.... more advanced robot? Did Flemeth have that right? Those sorts of advancements weren't commonplace where she was from. Some people did try to tell her she was technologically disadvantaged because she didn't wear "proper" clothes or ran around shooting people with a gun. Flemeth could not fathom how someone could think a gun was more efficient than magic. She could snap her fingers and burn someone to a crisp before someone could even draw their gun.

People could be so foolish when it came down to how they treated their "technology". Flemeth wouldn't hold it against this girl though. She hadn't built herself - Flemeth had come to understand that robots were built and created, and were not born like true living beings - so Flemeth wouldn't give her the fifth degree over that.

Flemeth was ready to ask another question, curiosity over a topic she wanted more information in getting the better of her, but one of the teachers came over, interrupting her train of though.

...Trains were a good form of technological advancements.

"We're ready to begin, Ms. Flemeth," he said with a bob of his head. Flemeth patted her companion on the shoulder.

"Duty calls," she said before getting up and heading to the front.

Cinnamon could tell that the witch wanted to ask something else, but the lesson was about to start. "Be seeing you..." she replied as the woman left for the front of the room. Everyone who was supposed to be watching were finding comfortable places to sit, and she also made sure she was comfortable. Sort of - her idea of comfort was different compared to that of many an organic. She could sit in this seat for hours and not feel bothered by it.

With nothing else she could do at the moment, Cinnamon looked ahead to where everything was going to take place. She already had her notebook out, along with a pen. She could've just recorded the entire thing, but doing it this way made it feel more like she was at school. Which she was. She wanted to take notes like everyone else.

Flemeth had never taught a magic class in any way, shape or form before because she simply didn't care enough about others to let them know the ins and outs of magic. She taught her daughters it, yes, but anyone else wasn't important enough for her to let them have any of her vast knowledge of the subject.

But, this world had proven itself fascinating to her so she didn't mind sharing the knowledge of the magic from her world. It wasn't like they could actually use it. In Thedas, one needed to be born with magic to be able to wield it. At most, they were going to learn what it looked like. And, maybe they would be able to stop an attack if it came their way. Flemeth doubted it, but they could hope.

She stood before the students and guests who were assembled for her presentation. She hadn't planned anything in advanced. She thought she would just make it up as she went along. It would work out. Might as well demonstrate why they shouldn't be poking at mages like her who could burn them into a crisp because they were in a bad mood that day.

"Afternoon," she said. Her voice seemed to ring out, as if it was perfect for presentations. "My name is Flemeth, though some may address me by many names. The Witch of the Wilds. Asha'bellanar. Mother of Vengeance." She swiped a hand in a somewhat dismissive gesture. "All of those are well and good. But, I am here to teach you of magic in the form that my home world of Thedas knows it."

Flemeth hadn't gotten anywhere yet, but Cinnamon still listened intently. This witch had been kind enough to take the time to teach them about magic from her world, and the Reploid thought that it wouldn't do to give her anything less than her undivided attention. Both the professor and Nurse Joy had told her to always be respectful of people who have gone out of their way to help others.

Thedas was, Cinnamon knew, one of the many worlds that had magic, as well as people who could wield it. Her world didn't seem to have any magic at all, so nearly all her data on the subject was what she could gather on this planet. The only other things she really knew about Thedas was that the Deep Roads were from there and the darkspawn that lived down there were scary.

At least she got to learn more about that world today! Cinnamon loved learning about new things, even if she couldn't really use them. Knowledge of magic might help her when dealing with injuries inflicted by it, though. That was important, too!

Flemeth had barely started, and she could already tell that she had the attention and fascination of the students present. It was quite clear in their eyes that they had never thought meeting someone like her was possible. She supposed she couldn't blame them. Judging from the school itself, it didn't match anything that one would find in Thedas.

"Now, there are things that needs to be said clearly for people who think they can trifle with the magic from my own world," Flemeth continued. She braced her fists on her hips. It was an unconscious action that she had done when she had scolded her children, though the scoldings they often received were more... brusque than what she was saying to these students. "Magic in my world is congenital. You will not and cannot be able to perform any of the spells that I will be showing you today. One must be born with the magic - hereditary or otherwise - to be able to use it at all."

She paused, perhaps for dramatic effect. "There are, however, little things people use to try and give themselves magical qualities in things like combat. Enchanting one's weapon is one such method." Enchanting was often a magecraft anyways, with very few people being able to do the trick aside from mages. The Circles often used the tranquil to do their enchanting, for varying reasons. She wasn't a Circle wench, though, so she cared little for their ideas.

"We'll talk more on enchantments later," Flemeth said. Enchantments and runes were something that these kids could actual use and maybe find useful. "Now, though, let's talk about the basics. Magic is split into varying schools, so let's start there."

People had to be born with Thedas' magic in order to use it; that was different than some of the other magic that existed on this planet. People could pick up and learn certain types of magic, as long as they're physically capable of learning it in the first place. But in Thedas, one had to be born a mage in order to use magic. Cinnamon wondered if there was anyone in the audience who felt disappointed with that.

Oh, but there were other kinds of magic they could learn, so they could always look into those!

She started on her notes, writing down the date and the subject. She added that Thedas' magic was for Thedas mages only, leaving some space for more details into that if she needed write down more later on. Then she started on a space about the various schools of magic. Her handwriting was very neat - once she realized just how much writing she was going to do on this planet, she practiced and practiced until she got it perfect.

This was already fun, and they just started!

Flemeth could see the disappointment in the eyes of some of the students when they learned they weren't going to be blasting things with fire balls anytime soon. Good. It was good to get that sort of foolishness out of their brains while they were young, before it was too late. Flemeth had seen on several occasions what happened when the young got interested in things beyond their control and attempted to play with things as adults. Once they reached maturity, it was almost always too late to turn back.

"There are several schools of magic in which all magic within Thedas is divided into," Flemeth continued. She started pacing. It was a teacher-y thing to do, she supposed, and it helped made sure everyone was capable of seeing her as well. "In the Circle of Magi that are dotted around Thedas, four schools of magic are recognized. Those four are Creation, Primal, Spirit and Entropy. These are the four schools that an apprentice at a Circle can expect to learn and practice in. Other types of magic from the other schools may also take be taught within the circle, most notably Elemental."

She paused. Dramatic effect.

"But, there are multiple schools that are not taught traditionally to mages at a Circle. If one wishes to master them, they would have to go through different means. The other schools of magic, aside from Elemental as I previously mentioned are Blight, Blood, Force, Arcane, Nature, Necromancy, Fade, Healing and Shapeshifting."

She heard a small 'ooh' at necromancy. Of course, people in a death academy would find a magical styling of death interesting.

"Let's start with the four schools of the Circle, shall we? Which would you like to know of first?" She opened the floor to the students, so they could choose which one most interested them.

There were quite a few schools of magic... but only four - five, sort of - were actually taught at a Circle. Cinnamon had heard about Circles, but only briefly. The only thing she knew about them was that they were much different than the College of Winterhold. She figured that mages' schools from different worlds were different from each other, but by how much?

And why weren't the other schools taught at a Circle?

...oh, she just realized why Blight wasn't. That was scary stuff.

Flemeth had opened the floor to the students, but Cinnamon remained quiet, content to let the others voice their own opinions on where they started first. There was some chatter and a few suggestions being spoken out loud, but one girl did raise her hand. "What's Entropy about?" Naturally, the students here would go for the most morbid sounding of the four Circle schools.

Cinnamon didn't mind and felt curious about it, now that it had been brought up.

Flemeth waited patiently as the students tried to work out what school they would like to hear about first. She had an idea about which ones fascinated them the most, though it was possible that they could always surprised her by picking something she hadn't expected of them.

They didn't, picking Entropy, but that was fine. She could always work with Entropy. She knew magic probably better than most in Thedas. Few people had her aptitude with magic, and fewer yet were able to live long enough to master it in the same way she had.

"To you, my second-born, I grant this gift:," Flemeth recited out loud once it was decided they were to speak of Entropy first, "In your heart shall burn, an unquenchable flame, All consuming, and never satisfied. Threnodies 5:7."

She paused in speak as she moved to a better position in the room, one that gave her more open space before her.

"Entropy is the first in the schools of matter, and it is the stark opposite of Creation. Nothing exists without life, and no life exists without the possibility of death. They are two sides of the same coin. The power that Entropy has manipulates death and destruction to cause something new to form."

"Now," a small smile took her features, "who would like to volunteer as our test dummy?"
