The Warrior of Light
© Draco // CURRENTLY Offline

The town was in utter chaos now that the dragon had landed, and was breathing fire. A child that had been hiding behind a trash can screamed and ran for cover. A couple on the other side of the street turned and scurried off. There was yelling, and some form of loud screeching noise that the Warrior had determined was coming from some authority vehicle.

Determined to stay undeterred, the Warrior gripped his blade as the woman began to fire her shots at the dragon’s neck, watching as it twisted and breathed fire in her direction.

With the dragon distracted, he began to prepare another flurry of strikes toward it – Dayflash, with a fury of multiple strikes. With a toss of his shield, he swung his sword forward for a Sword Thrust right into the chest of the dragon. The skin was tough, but the roar told him all he needed to know – he’d hurt it, at least enough. He moved quickly in his attack, finishing off with a Shining Wave, as a strike of Braveheart resulted in a flash, a wave of light bursting through to strike the dragon.

The Warrior of Light pulled back, but the dragon was clearly still able to fight. He recalled the woman’s words - ”That kind of dragon can be pretty difficult to deal with.” – but remained vigilant. They were the only two people able to deal with this dragon, and it was going to fall to them.

They had just to be patient and not lose faith. The Warrior had plenty of it.

Sami ignored all the chaos going on around her and focused on the battle at hand. To get distracted could cost not only her, but the knight who was fighting at her side. As soon as he finished off his barrage of attacks on the dragon, she opened fire again, bullets spraying along its back. It turned and snapped at her, but before it could reach her, she shot into its mouth, which was far more vulnerable than its thick hide and heavy scales.

She had to move to a different spot again, but the combat had been enough.

"Hope you're ready for this!" she called to the knight, then she triggered her CO Power. Double Time swept across the field, boosting the speed and attack power of not only herself, but anyone on her side who fought on foot. Sami fired at the dragon again, prompting the creature to open its mouth, but she was already close to it before it could react, using her teeth to rip the pin out of a grenade and throwing the explosive right onto its tongue before taking off again.

Not sure what she had just done, the dragon snapped its jaws shut and swallowed.

With the dragon distracted once again by the woman, the Warrior of Light turned to make sure that the civilians were clearing out of the area. He had not only himself and the woman to worry about, but the people they were protecting. He would for someone to lose their life over this dragon raging about. He was a warrior, a Hero of Light, he was going to make sure everyone got out of this safely.

The dragon was still distracted by the woman, so the Warrior stepped over to the vehicle that the child had rushed to hide behind. The child looked up at him with a strike of fear, a stuffed toy clutched close. The Warrior was slightly disappointed in himself that the sight of him struck such a feeling in a small child, but right now he couldn’t dwell on it for too long. The woman would only be able to distract the dragon for so long.

“Go, now, while you can,” he instructed, directing the child to leave the street entirely. The child finally nodded and scampered away, and the Warrior turned back to the dragon just as the woman asked if he was ready for… something. “Ready for what?”

That was when he witnessed a strange feeling overcome him, as if he had suddenly gained more strength and speed. He watched as the woman then fired on the dragon again, before throwing a strange object right into its mouth.

Whatever it had been, the dragon had swallowed it.

“… What was that?” he asked, confused for the moment. He tightened his grip on Braveheart, eyes still firm on the dragon.

The dragon reared up and for a moment, time seemed to stand still. But then its chest expanded out briefly and the creature dropped back on all fours. Its snarls were gurgles as blood poured out through its jaws. A grenade wasn't enough to cause it to explode - its bones were strong enough to withstand almost any attempts to shatter them - but its flesh wasn't quite as durable. Sami had intended to wreak havoc on its insides. It worked.

Even so, the dragon refused to accept defeat, that it was on its way to dying. They were prideful, unwilling to accept any outcome to a battle besides their own foreseen victory. Any dovah worth their salt would stand and face their enemies than flee. It raised its head, choking back blood in one more attempt to use its Thu'um, the one weapon it had over the mortals who crawled upon the earth.

Sami was betting on it. In its condition, it now had to put effort into Shouting. And that meant that they had an opening.

"Let's finish it!" she called over to the knight, before firing on the dragon again. Her shots caused it to stagger, yet it refused to back down from its last attack.

The dovah was reaching the end of its ability to fight, but was still insisting on staying in battle. It attempted to breathe fire, to attack with anything, but the explosion of whatever the woman had it swallow had caused it to merely choke up a strange black blood. The Warrior of Light had never seen anything like it before, but he simply focused his attention on the matter at hand.

With a call, the woman declared that it was time to finish the dovah. She fired her strange weapon at it once more, and the Warrior of Light offered a nod before tightening the grip of his sword. He wasn’t about to let it have the opportunity to use its Shout, and with a cry, he rushed forward with his blade.

A flash of light was what summoned forth six other blades made purely of magic, which then situated themselves around the dovah. Radiant Sword then shot down on the dragon from all angles, and the Warrior of Light finished off with a Dayflash. The dovah, hit from all angles and finally reaching the end, fell to the blade and the gun of the Warrior of Light and his companion, the Woman With Red Hair.

For a moment, there was nothing. The Warrior of Light simply paused to take the moment to catch his breath and recover. The fight was finally over. He turned to his companion, giving her a nod of approval.

“You are a very skilled fighter. You must be proud of your skills,” he complimented. “The Light was on our side today. We’ve earned this victory.”

It was done. The dragon was dead.

Sami looked over its body. Blood seeped from its wounds, internal and external; its thick scaled hide, known to withstand the harshest of attacks, laid in tatters. For all its attitude, it had fallen at the hands of two humans. Maybe these dragons weren't nearly as tough as they believed themselves to be.

"Yeah," she replied to the knight as she glanced over at him. "You're pretty tough, too. This won't be the last of them, but maybe this will give them something to think about before they attack the city again." Who knew how long that would last, but she would take her victories where she could. If another dragon came to Santa Destroy, then it was going to quickly regret it.

Her concern now was where the oozium had come from. Sami doubted it was the Black Hole Army, but if someone was using Black Hole tech to create stuff like this again, then that was going to be a problem. She would have to look into this.

In response to the Woman’s compliment, he nodded in gratitude, at least pleased that she was satisfied with his fighting capability. It was always nice when one’s abilities matched the standards of an ally. They had killed their adversary, so they had the right to be a little proud this day.

“We can hope,” he stated. It would be good for the dovah to leave Santa Destroy alone from now on, especially with knowing it had been properly defended the first time. The Warrior may not always be here, but chances were, someone would be.

The world was full of valiant heroes. Not just the Warrior, but this woman as well.

There was one thing that villains and creatures everywhere was going to understand at some point. This world was protected – everything truly was. Heroes and warriors such as him, such as this woman with him, would be protecting everything around them. It was his goal as the Warrior of Light, and hers as well.

And he would never rest so long as evil believed otherwise.

The cops were already on their way - Sami could hear their sirens as their patrol cars speedily approached the scene of the battle. It was a normal sound to her these days. Something attacked the city, people kicked its butt, then the police showed up, a little too late to really do anything. Sami couldn't really fault them for that - they were just normal cops. The weirdest thing they'd probably have to deal with back in their world was the fallout of whatever battles the local assassins waged against each other.

Which probably got really hairy at times, sure. But they never really involved stuff like random dragons flying into the city to burn everything down.

"I got to get home." Sami still had groceries in the back of her truck. She wasn't going to stick around and let them sit in there for any longer than they already have while cops drilled her for answers that they could easily get from the witnesses here. Their questions didn't really need to be asked, anyway. A dragon and an oozium attacked. They were both killed, limiting the number of casualties the two of them could potentially cause. Nothing to it.

Before she left for her truck, she saluted the knight who had fought at her side today. "Commanding Officer Sami," she stated, finally introducing herself. "I live here in Santa Destroy. If you ever find yourself in the area again and need my firepower, come find me." He was alright; she wouldn't mind helping him out if their paths crossed again.

It was time for the woman – Commanding Officer Sami, it would seem – to return home. The Warrior of Light blinked as she saluted him, but in response, offered an acknowledging nod and a slight salute of his own. It was an honor to fight by her side. He hoped she understood that.

“I am referred to by my title – the Warrior of Light. If I ever am in need of your aid here, I will let you know.” It was an honest statement, one he would live by every time he was in Santa Destroy, and yet, one he hoped would not be necessary. Those who fight often desire the breaks in between. It would be a shame to disturb that peace.

With her preparing to leave, the Warrior finally sheathed his blade and put his shield away as well. “May the light shine upon you, Commanding Officer Sami.” With his piece said, he bowed respectfully toward her, before turning to take his leave.

It was time for him to move on with his journey.
