It wasn't the Water Ruins, but Thunderbolt had been drawn to the lake all the same, the closest thing around here that reminded him of home.

The Guardian had no idea where he was. He had woken up in a field of flowers, confused and disoriented, his memories blurred. He remembered... being somewhere else? Somewhere far different from where he was supposed to be. But things had gotten hazy and waking up had been the first thing that was clear enough to him. Then his instincts kicked in and he sought the runes - the life force - he was so attuned to, which led him here.

Jittery earlier on, he felt at ease here, like he was coming home.

Trotting along the lake's shore, the horse monster surveyed the water. Nothing seemed to be amiss. The lake was fine, and he was determined to keep it that way, keep its waters and runes intact and safe from anything that would threaten it. People. People always threatened things, took from nature more than they were allowed. Thunderbolt kept the Water Ruins safe; if this was to be his new home, then he could do the same for it. With violence if he needed to.

Stopping, he snorted and shook out his mane, small arcs of lightning dancing along his dark coat. This was his lake now, and he will not tolerate any intruders from the outside world.

But for some reason, he felt like he was forgetting something very important to him...

Aha, Lake Umacy! Major Alex Louis Armstrong had not had the joys of being able to visit it before, but now he was able to do just that. It was just another thing for him to be able to add to the list of things he had done in this world. He would make sure to present such a list to his mother and father, so they were perfectly aware of all the things their son had accomplished. Even the smallest of accomplishments were things that one should celebrate.

But, more importantly at the moment, they were showing Arystar around. After their tour of Radiant Garden, Armstrong had planned out their schedule to be able to help introduced Arystar to the world he was now living in. Their first stop had been Briggs, where Armstrong had given him a full tour of the fort and made sure that the soldiers were familiar with him so they knew he had permissions to come and go from the fort as he pleased.

After that, they had went out traveling. Armstrong had them travel to the east until they were able to take passage across the ocean. They made a brief stop in the Archipelago before they continued on, finding their way onto the Eastern Continent. It felt as if there was still so much to see on that continent, and that it wasn't fully formed yet. That was simply something that Armstrong felt about it.

He stepped out of the tree line and into the lake's surrounding area, taking in the beautiful sight of the lake.

"They say unicorns live here," he declared to his companions. He suddenly stopped when something caught his eye.

It looked like... an unicorn.

Maybe the stories were true, then.

So here they were, taking Arystar on what could be described as a tour of the planet they now lived on.

The past few days had been quite fun for Miranda. They had gotten Arystar settled at the fort before taking off with him to travel, which was one of the things they did often on this planet. Miranda had been doing a lot of traveling back in their own world, but that was mostly for Black Order business. Here, she was doing it for fun, and she felt a lot happier being able to see all these different kinds of places without worrying about Akuma or the Noah or whatever else.

They did talk about home, her and Arystar, as part of their catching up. But there wasn't much they could do about the situation back at home while the Goddess kept them in this world. All she could do was make the most of her time here, while she was with her friends. Arystar and Armstrong and Pikachu.

Once they reached their latest stop - Lake Umacy - Armstrong mentioned that people said that unicorns lived here. Miranda looked at the lake and sure enough, there was a unicorn right at the shore.

But... "Is that really a unicorn...?" she wondered, looking at her friends. Pikachu was sitting on Arystar's shoulder today - she had taken quite a liking to him. The small yellow Pokemon looked at the creature at the lake and frowned a little, a few sparks emitting from her cheeks. That unicorn didn't look like the dainty, beautiful creatures they had seen before in a book. "It looks a little scary..." And mean. Were real unicorns supposed to be like that?

This place, the Hill of Memories, was nothing short of beautiful. After being in a place that seemed odd like Radiant Garden and being trapped on a tropical island and then making a home in Briggs, Arystar truly hadn't thought he was going to see even more different sorts of locales. But, the Hill of Memories had proven him wrong.

It was rather peaceful here too, from what Arystar could see. This was the type of place he probably wouldn't mind spending a day. Some might have thought it to be boring, but he didn't. He wouldn't have minded it one bit, no matter how quiet or uneventful the place could be. That was his sort of place. He had been through so much that having moments of quiet were some of his favourite moments all together.

They had located a forest of a sort and wandered into it, only to come across a lake. Arystar stopped dead when he noticed what Miranda had pointed out.

"Is.... it..." He didn't finish saying 'really' because he was too surprised. In his world, unicorns were of legend and myth. Despite all the other things that happened around the place, those were one of the things that were completely fictional.

And, yet, here they were.

Their scent caused Thunderbolt to flare his nostrils, then snort in an attempt to get the foulness out of his nose. People. Intruders.

There were three of them - humans. The smaller male had a Pikachu on him; Thunderbolt wasn't sure why he knew she was a Pikachu. The name just popped into his mind, as if it had been hiding in the storm clouds muddling his memory. Pikachu. Pokemon. No such monsters existed in his world. So he didn't know why he was familiar with them.

Anyway, they were intruding on this lake. They weren't welcome here. Glaring at them with a baleful stare, the Guardian bared his teeth and stamped his hooves as a warning, arcs of electricity crackling around his body. He wasn't about to let some humans and their pet sully this lake. Leave this place!

There was something odd about this unicorn, something that made Armstrong grow instantly wary. He originally had not expected to see any unicorns here at all, despite the stories that people said about this place, because their sightings were so few and far between. He knew it was perfectly possible they were real - he believed the sightings - but he thought that their time here was likely to be fruitless in that endeavor.

But, a unicorn stood before them now, and it seemed like it was threatening them. They weren't invading its territory. People came here all the time, and there had never been reports of a territorial unicorn. And, the way the unicorn looked didn't quite fit anything else that lived there. The unicorn was a transplant in this world, just like they were, and it didn't belong here anymore than they did.

Not everyone would have been able to come to that conclusion, but Armstrong was lucky he had the superior intellect that came with being a scion of the Armstrong family.

That didn't stop Armstrong from getting a little closer, though he made sure to keep his large body between that of the unicorn and his comrades. If it attacked, it would have the impossible task of defeating him.

"We are no here to harm you," he said, cautiously. "We're visiting the Lake. Just as you are. Because the Goddess placed you here, just like us." He was unsure of how a unicorn's intelligence would be in regarding human words, but he thought he better try it before any fighting started.

She was right. The unicorn was scary, and it didn't seem to like them being here. It was threatening them, as if they invaded its space. Did this unicorn actually live here, then? There was something that made it stood out, however, and Armstrong seemed to have noticed as well. Maybe it was just a visitor, like them, and that it claimed this spot as its territory.

...no, maybe that wasn't the entire story. The more Miranda stared at it, the more she felt like something was bothering her. Her hand went to Time Record; her weapon resonated with her touch, but it was as if it was also reacting to something nearby.

Was... was that it?

"Major... that unicorn..." Miranda's voice trailed off and she cleared her throat. "I think there's something wrong with it. Like its... 'time' isn't how it's supposed to be." She couldn't really explain it any more than that right now. That was just how she felt about it, what her Innocence was telling her. They should be careful.

Arystar was amazed that they had gotten the opportunity to see a unicorn in person - he hadn't been expecting that was even possible - but it became quickly clear that the unicorn was not eager to see them. In fact, it seemed like it was threatening them. Arystar gulped, keeping himself behind the Major. It might have been a coward's move, but he felt better behind someone who might have had an easier time controlling his power in comparison to the probably more chaotic abilities Arystar had.

When Miranda spoke up, it made Arystar stare intently at the unicorn. Something was definitely off about it, but he wasn't sure what.

"I think Miranda's right," he said, quietly. "There's something about it that seems wrong." He didn't have Miranda's senses - or anyone's senses really - but he had been from a place where something simply feeling wrong could give way to something awful happening. That was how Akuma were when they masqueraded as people.

He didn't think the unicorn was an Akuma, though. At least, he hoped not.

What the large human was saying didn't make much sense. Or maybe it was just that Thunderbolt could care less. He didn't care that they wanted to visit the lake. He didn't care that some Goddess placed him here, or them here. All he knew was that they were here, and that meant trouble. Humans were trouble. They did nothing else but destroy everything they touched.

He wasn't about to allow them to sully this place!

Rearing back, the horse monster let out whinny that shattered the calm, then he slammed his hooves down upon the earth, causing it to crack from the sheer force. Thunderbolt sent a blast of lightning hurtling towards the intruders. He had already shown them courtesy by allowing them to leave on their own. They refused, so he would remove them forcibly and painfully.

They didn't do anything wrong.

Too late! He wasn't about to let up his attack. Thunderbolt didn't know why he was even thinking that now. Unwilling to give the intruders any time to retaliate, he pointed his sharp horn at them and charged, electricity crackling the ground where he stepped.

Ah, Armstrong heard the sense in the words that his friends had made, but it was too late for him to do much on the words. The unicorn had chosen to attack them, which meant he had to retaliate. He wasn't going to hurt the unicorn, not unless he had to. It was always part of his policy to not harm anyone who he considered innocent, unless they chose to do harm to him and his comrades. He doubted the unicorn was able to really hurt him - it was hard to damage someone who had the Armstrong blood flowing through their veins - but he was going to make sure it didn't go far enough for anyone to be injured.

When the lightning came at him, he was able to deflect it. It barely scorched him as he batted it away from him with his fists, the metal gauntlets being useful in the maneuver.

Then, he clapped his hands together before touching them to the ground. Two hands of rock, made of the ground beneath their feet, lurched out of the ground by the unicorn. They grabbed him by the waist and pulled him to his knees on the ground, keeping him pinned. That should hold him for now.

"What do we do?" Armstrong asked, glancing at Miranda and Arystar.

Miranda flinched when the unicorn suddenly attacked them, but Armstrong was able to pin it down. Still, errant bolts of lightning flashed around them; she was sure that if any one of those bolts struck her, that would be the end. She didn't have the same strength and durability as the Major and Arystar. She would just end up as a sizzling pile of ash on the ground...

Not a pleasant thought to think about...

When Armstrong asked what they should do, Miranda swallowed down her nervousness and spoke. "I-I can use my Time Record to reverse time to when the unicorn was in a more optimal state... it's only temporary, but maybe we can learn what's wrong with it." And then maybe... they could do something about it. Help it somehow.

Miranda looked at her friends - Armstrong, then Arystar and Pikachu; the Pokemon looked like she was ready to spring off Arystar's shoulder and attack the unicorn if it so much touched a hair on any of their heads. The exorcist really hoped that she wouldn't do that, but the unicorn was straining to get free, screaming and shooting off more lightning. It was clearly very upset.

"Do... do you think we can calm it down?" If they could get it to stop trying to zap them, then it would really help...

Arystar visibly flinched when the unicorn chose to attack them. He knew if he had to, he could probably take it out in a fight. He was getting more confident in his combative abilities and new he was one of the physically stronger members of his Order. But, that didn't meant he liked fighting by any means, and fighting something he knew nothing about was even less appealing. He would have preferred the unicorn just leave them alone, but that didn't seem like it was going to happen.

The Major, however, had managed to pin it down in a way it couldn't physically come at them anymore. Arystar let out a soft sigh as his body relaxed, though he didn't go completely off his guard. He knew it was still possible that something bad could happen.

Miranda suggested using her Time Record abilities. Arystar agreed. He had seen the good those abilities were able to do. It could help them out.

"I think you should do it," he said earnestly. "Maybe we can learn something that can help us out." He didn't add 'so we don't hurt it or we don't get hurt', but he thought that the sentiment was probably there.

Thunderbolt roared his indignation and fury. How dare that balding, mustached, sparkling bastard pin him down like this! Ignoring the others - they hadn't done anything else to offend him besides being here - he focused on the object of his anger, shooting lightning at him while squirming and kicking to get free.

His aim wasn't exactly precise, for some of his bolts shot past the man, hurtling into the woods beyond. There was a loud crack as one struck a tree. Thunderbolt was so angry that he couldn't see straight, but he knew the general area where that man was. If he just kept firing off lightning bolts, he would hit him eventually. Maybe he would hit the others - serves them right for being there!

Wait.

What the hell was he even doing? He never really wanted to hurt anyone.

Pausing in his electrical attacks, the Guardian snorted and shook his head. These people and their pet weren't supposed to be here. He was trying to remove them. That was all there was to it! Why were these thoughts bothering him now?

Wait... where was he before he woke up in this area? Who exactly was he? Confused, Thunderbolt let his electricity dim to mere crackles. Why was he even here, trying to attack innocent visitors?

More lightning was shooting past them, but Armstrong remained where he was so he was able to deflect any lightning that came close to them. He hoped there were no creatures milling in the forest trees behind them. People either. If they were hit by that lightning, they could be seriously injured, or worse. All that reminded Armstrong why they needed to stop this unicorn, if they could.

Miranda commented on her abilities. Armstrong had almost forgot about the skills his friend possessed. Both of the exorcists with him were able to use unique abilities he had never seen before, though Arystar's were more offensive while Miranda's were defensive. In the situation they were in, defensive could be very helpful.

But, the abilities Miranda had could very well help.

"Give it a try," he said. "Whatever we can do that causes no harm will be preferred."

Miranda chewed on her lower lip. Everyone agreed that trying to use Time Record on the unicorn couldn't hurt, and the creature had eventually stopped hurling lightning at them. It seemed confused, either over its inability to cause harm to them, or something else. She wasn't sure yet. Miranda turned to it and took a deep breath. Okay, here goes...

"Innocence, activate!" Time Record triggered the moment she touched it. "Time Recovery!" She enveloped the unicorn in her Innocence's power, pulling time out of it, returning it to a state before whatever had happened to the poor creature had happened to it.

Much to her surprise, the unicorn transformed into what appeared to be a young man, who fell out of the rock hands that Armstrong had used to bind it. Miranda knew that shapeshifters lived on the planet, but she hadn't expected this unicorn to be one. He didn't move after he hit the ground and she was sure that he was unconscious.
