Standing on the sill with his face pressed up against the glass, Kirby gazed out longingly through the window. The puffball couldn't see it, but maybe somewhere out there was his home planet. And all the friends he hadn't seen in months. Everyone else who lived there, too.

To be honest, he was starting to miss home. Kirby did have a home here, and a mom - the best mom! - but sometimes he missed running around in familiar areas, hanging out with his friends. Fishing with his best friend in the whole world, Gooey (who often ate the fish Kirby caught before he could even cook them, but he didn't really mind all too much). He missed the duels he would get into with Meta Knight. He even missed King Dedede and all the trouble he would get into!

Visiting Rosalina and using her huge telescope to stare at the night sky reminded Kirby of home and how much he missed it. So did going to the Citadel and finding one of these big windows with a view of space. It was pretty distracting - he had gone here to shop, eat and have fun, but now he was thinking about home.

Maybe one day, he would get to see all those friends he missed once again.

This place... was so frickin' cool!

Xiu had kind of been to space once - they needed to save Touma who had gone to space, and there was a long story behind it that was really confusing, and he didn't like thinking too much about it because it gave him a headache - but never like this before. It reminded him of all those cool science fiction movies from America he would watch with his younger brothers. Everything was so shiny and bright. He didn't want to touch them exactly because he might get fingerprints on them, but damn, was he tempted to poke everything he could.

As he walked, Xiu slapped his cheeks lightly. He was here on an important mission and not to admire aliens.

He stopped to watch two aliens wander by them. Look at those eyeballs! They were huge!

"Get a hold of yourself," he said, giving his cheek another slap, albeit a little harder than last time. "You're on a mission! Get with it!"

Xiu didn't really understand what exactly was going on, though. He was told he was in the Goddess' World and he was stuck here. Last time he was stuck in a world, a demon lord was zapping his strength and trying to take over the human realm while simultaneously wanting to kill him and his friends. He didn't want to be in any world that had Goddess in the name. It sounded like it was going to be trouble.

He was sure he could deal with what was coming, but he wanted to know more. He wasn't the intelligent one of the group - Touma's gi was wisdom - but he was going to learn all he needed to know so he could present some information to his friends when they met up again. The question was, where should he begin?

"I don't knoooooow," Xiu groaned. He stopped at a sill that looked out at space and pressed his face against the glass, letting it make his groan sound funny. Each time he tried to think about it, it just made everything more complicated and he hated complicated.

Kirby heard a groan beside him and he peeled his face off the glass, staring up at the human who was now doing what he had been doing. This guy didn't sound very happy at all! What was wrong? Was he lost? Or maybe he knew where he was going, but he didn't want to go there. Or maybe he was looking for someone. Or maybe... someone stole his food! That would be just horrible!

See, Kirby could relate to that. Usually, he set about finding the culprit, beating them up and retrieving the food they had stolen from him. Admittedly, sometimes he misread what was going on and something worse than stolen food ended up happening. But he usually fixed things whenever they got messy!

Aww... that just reminded him of home again.

Shuffling over to the guy, Kirby poked him. Hey, was he okay?

Ugh, this was the worst! What the heck was he supposed to do? He could already hear Touma's voice in his head, telling him to grow a brain and figure it out. The thought annoyed him, and he considered ripping imaginary Touma's headband off and throwing it out into space. Subconsciously, he reached up a hand and touched his own headband.

Wow, his nose was starting to hurt, pressed to the glass like this.

Something touched his arm, and Xiu jumped back instinctively. "Whoa!" he said, his hands swinging up, ready to fight. Between spending the past year dealing with Arago and demons, and being in a new world all of a sudden, Xiu was maybe a little jumpy. But, that also meant he was ready for anything.

Or... almost anything because what the hell was this thing?

Xiu's fists dropped and he leaned in close to the pink puffball that had seemingly poked him. "What the...?" he muttered before reaching out and poking it back. Was it really alive?

Wow, this guy was jumpy! Kirby could understand that not all worlds had little pink puffballs, but anyone who had been living here for a while wouldn't have thought much about it. The people in Santa Destroy didn't even stare anymore - they all knew he lived in the city with the best mom in the entire world.

Maybe this human was new?

Kirby closed the eye closest to the guy's finger, only opening it again once he was done poking him. Yeah, he was probably new. He seemed confused. Being confused was a common symptom of newbieness. Also shock, denial and binge eating. Hmm. Now he was kind of hungry.

"Hi!" he greeted brightly as he smiled up at the guy. Welcome to this side of the cosmos! Home of the planet that the Goddess had built, its moon and of course, the Citadel!

Huh, so it was really alive and Xiu had been imagining that this pink puffball had poked him. He wasn't sure if he understood what was going on. He knew that the strangest of things could exist. His time in the netherworld taught him that well and good. But, it was so weird seeing something like this in comparison to what he was used to, like the demons of the netherworld.

And, then it spoke.

Xiu's eyes went wide in surprise. He didn't think it would be able to speak too! Maybe he really was dreaming. He reached up and pinched his cheek - more gently than some of his friends might have done to him, to be fair. Nope, he was was definitely awake. Maybe he needed to pinch himself harder... But he would do that some other time. His cheek was a tad sore right now. And, he kind of had a lot of questions. Where did one even begin?

"Hi," he finally said back. "You can speak, huh? What are you?" That was probably a good question to start with.

Kirby wasn't sure why this human was acting so surprised that he spoke. Humans spoke. Pokemon spoke. A bunch of different races living up here and down on the planet below spoke. But maybe that was just some human-new-to-this-world thing. Humans seemed more surprised over new things than a lot of others.

Too bad that Kirby couldn't actually speak all that much! So he couldn't really give the guy an answer. Actually... even if he could speak like everyone else, he didn't have an answer to begin with. Even Kirby didn't know what Kirby was.

But maybe he should start with his name.

"Kaabii," he chirped. It wasn't what he was, but it was who he was, even if he wasn't saying it quite as it should be said. But it was the best he could do. Kirby was Kirby!

Huh.

"Kaabii?" Xiu asked, his tongue feeling tongue-tied by the word. He felt like he was trying to say a word like his youngest sister word and that she wasn't fully pronouncing it right just yet. He tested the word out a few times, trying to emphasize didn't syllables until he got to what he thought it was supposed to sound like. "Kirby. You're a... kirby? Or, your name is Kirby?"

It had to be one or the other, right? Why else would he even say it otherwise? Unless he was stupid and didn't know what Xiu was asking but that didn't appear to be the case here at all. He was going to go with it being the puffball's name. That seemed to make the most sense.

Xiu pointed a thumb at himself. "I'm Xiu Li Huang," he said. "And, I really have no clue where I am or what I'm doing here."

In a way, he did. The Goddess blah blah blah. But beyond that, he felt really lost. At least the people of Raftfleet had been nice enough to let him stay there and give him somewhere to go back to when he was done looking for answers.

But really... he felt lost.

Oh, he got it! Kirby smiled when the guy understood, saying his own name in return. Okay, they were Kirby and Xiu. At least they got that part figured out, no problem. Sometimes, there were problems when only one person was able to speak properly. Most of Kirby's friends around here understood that he couldn't talk well, but they were also smart people and were quick to guess whatever he wanted to point out to them.

Anyway, it seemed like Xiu felt lost. That was okay! A lot of people felt that way when they got here! Some more than others. Kirby mostly felt hungry. Wait... did he feel hungry when he was first brought here or was he just thinking that way because he was getting hungry right now?

His stomach let out a low rumble, causing Kirby to glance down at it. Huh. So it was the latter.

Okay, great, it looked like they were making progress in their conversation.

...Maybe? Xiu actually wasn't entirely sure because Kirby didn't seem like he was capable of a lot of speech. But that was alright. Xiu was capable of communicating with White Blaze just fine, and he was a white tiger who wasn't capable of any speech at all.

The question now was, where did they go from here?

Xiu got his answer almost immediately when Kirby's tummy rumble. Was he hungry? Where exactly was his tummy supposed to be? He just sort of looked like a head with arms and feet. The creatures he saw on this planet were so weird...

"Are you hungry?" Xiu asked. "Because if you are, we can get something to eat. I can do food. Now that's something I'm good with." Growing up as the son of a restaurant owner meant food was practically in his DNA. Maybe having something to eat would make him feel a hell of a lot better about being here.

Xiu didn't mind getting some food now. Great! Kirby liked this guy. He liked this guy a lot. Xiu was nice to him and he also liked food, so how could he not like him? Maybe grabbing a bite to eat would help the human feel better about being stranded out here.

"Poyo!" And with that remark, Kirby hopped down from the window, landing on the floor. The puffball waddled away a few feet, then turned and waved at Xiu with both of his stubby hands. This way, this way! Kirby didn't really need to say anything - that should be enough to get his point across. This wasn't his first trip to the Citadel, and he just happened to know a place nearby where they served some really tasty food. Xiu would really like it there for sure!

They just had to get there without Kirby getting stepped on. It shouldn't be a problem - Kirby was used to weaving through forests of moving legs. Nearly everyone he encountered was much taller than him.

Okay, right, food. Xiu could totally do food. It was a familiar topic to him and that he really enjoyed, probably more than he should.

...Wait, did aliens have weird food? This space station had a lot of aliens on it. It wasn't that Xiu wasn't one for trying new things. Sure, his family ran a traditional Chinese restaurant and growing up in Japan meant he was used to Japanese food, but that also didn't mean he didn't enjoy eating foods from other countries. He could chow on an American hamburger all day long, and varying European food was absolutely delicious. And, there was even an Indian restaurant not too far from his elementary school that he used to try and get his mother to bring him to (she did not; Chinese only for the Xiu family).

But, alien cuisine? Would he even be able to eat it?

A part of his brain reminded him that there were humans walking around this place. They probably got that whole thing figured out. Yeah, it would probably be okay.

Xiu took off after Kirby, following him through the sparse crowd in this part of the station.

Kirby happily led the way through the crowd, dodging around feet of all kinds. Often, he would be carried by a friend, or sit on someone's shoulder. But he didn't mind walking around like this at all. The Citadel was a pretty large place, but he was still able to get around it on his own two feet, although sometimes he did have to fly.

That was okay, because he liked flying, too!

Eventually, he got to a restaurant stall that had the look of one of those retro human places that still existed around Santa Destroy. Around the counter were a bunch of stools for customers, although the only one present currently was a pointy-eared lady at the far end. Kirby wandered over to the seat he usually took and hopped onto it. Then he spun it up so it was a little higher and he could see over the counter. The cook glanced up from where he was checking off a list for inventory.

"Back again, Kirby?" he asked, to which the puffball nodded. "How's your mom today?" Kirby smiled in response. "Good? Nice to hear."

Xiu followed after Kirby, making sure to dodge around the people he came too close to. It was hard not to look at everyone who was there. They were so odd and strange to him. he was used to the demons from the Netherworld, but they had a certain look about them. If he had to describe them, they were very fitting of the time period where his own Hardrock armour originated. In some cases, they were suits of armour themselves.

But, these people... They reminded Xiu of the old sci-fi movies he would watch with his siblings. It was oddly comforting to know maybe humanity hadn't been so far off when they were trying to imagine what aliens would look like.

He reached the restaurant stall behind Kirby. His stomach seemed to growl again, or maybe he was hearing things because he was hungry. Was that a normal thing to do? Hear noises when you were in need of food? He should have been hearing something like meat sizzling then.

...Wait, no. He didn't want that at all. That would make him more hungry.

He sat himself down on a stool next to Kirby. The lady here... She had pointed ears. He stared for a moment before shaking his head. His mother would have smacked the back of his head since staring was rude and all that jazz.

"You have a mom?" he asked, surprised. He didn't even know why he was surprised. Most things had moms, right? He had a mom. His friends had moms. That statement shouldn't be so surprising.

"Well, yeah," said the cook, raising his eyebrows. "Someone down on the planet adopted this little guy. Her name's Bad Girl, and she's a... celebrity from Santa Destroy." Kirby nodded in agreement. His new mom was really famous in the city! People treated her with respect and stuff. "He's a lucky kid, though. Lot of others are still running around without parents, real or not."

Kirby wasn't sure what time it was. Did they miss the lunchtime rush? Maybe they did, because if it was lunchtime, someone probably would've taken his seat. That lady over there could be the last of that batch of customers. Unlike him, she seemed to be a slow eater.

That was okay, because everyone was different!

"So what are you guys having?" the man behind the counter asked. Kirby waved his arms in response. "The usual for you, gotcha." After quickly jotting that down, the cook glanced at Xiu. "And you? I've got seven types of burgers, if you're interested. All approved by Kirby here." He jerked a thumb at the menu.
