This was honestly super cool. Kay had never gone water skiing before, but these was a super fun way to get off the island she had found herself stranded on. But, there was a first time for everything, so why not try it out now? Kay liked the feeling of her hair being blown behind her as she was pulled along. It was nice having that breeze in her face. It was nice and relaxing. The grip on both her rope and her parcel didn't even bother her. She didn't even notice them, really, as holding onto either was not a problem for her.

But, then Maki said they had some company.

"Oh shit, a shark!" Her voice was loud - probably too loud because sound carried over water pretty easily - but there was no fear either. The only time Kay had ever even seen a shark before was when she was at an aquarium. They had never been really big sharks either, as she had never gotten to go to the larger aquariums in places like Tokyo.

She looked back at it, but it didn't frighten her. Maki was doing a pretty good job at keeping her away from its jaws, so why should Kay worry? Kay trusted Maki to not suddenly let her go and get eaten.

"You're faster than the shark, Maki!" Kay called up to her companion. "That's pretty impressive!"

"Well, of course!" chirped Maki. "No shark is going to get the better of me~!" And she meant it, especially since this shark seemed to be just a dumb animal. It wasn't like the sharks in her world at all. A shark from her world would be targeting her and trying to knock her down, rather than foolishly chasing the board.

Eventually, the shark gave up the chase, probably to find easier prey. Maki was more interested in what appeared on the horizon. "Look, Kay!" she pointed. "That's the island I talked about. Maybe that's the island you're supposed to get to!"

As they approached the shore, Maki slowed down, allowing the board to glide onto dry land and stop on its own. "Here we are~" They just needed to get to the house so Kay could make her delivery. It better be the right house!

Whoa, boy! Kay was surprised when the shark stopped giving chase. It wasn't determined enough to make a meal out of a teenage girl, apparently. She would have given it a right scolding if it was a member of her tankery club. It had given up far too early! It would have had to run laps around the school's gymnasium, which she probably would have had to confiscate from the school's basketball or volleyball teams, depending on which one was currently there.

But, the shark giving up was still a good thing for her. That meant she wasn't about to get her leg chewed off. Maybe if there had been blood in the water from her bleeding it would have continued to give chase until it was impossible for sure for it to catch her. She had seen on TV that sharks really liked chasing blood, though she wasn't sure just how much truth there was to that.

Once the board hit sand, Kay hopped off of it, jogging a little until she was able to slow herself down to a stop without faceplanting it into the dirt because of the momentum.

"Awesome!" she said, looking back at the water. They had crossed some distance, hadn't they? Kay turned to look back the other way. "So, where's this house?"

"It should be at the center of the island." They couldn't see that from here - there was a lot of lush green foliage in their way. But Maki was sure that she had seen the house when she passed over this island earlier. It was there, they just needed to make their way to it. The mollusk flew over to Kay and landed on her shoulder.

"There might be something scary running around in there," she commented cheerfully, "but don't worry! I'll protect you~" If they ran into anything that tried to eat Kay, Maki would make sure to either shoot or stab it so it would never think of attacking an innocent girl ever again! They had already gotten this far. If Maki lost Kay to some fucking carnivore after making the effort to get her to this island, she was going to be pissed.

"Maybe if we look around, we can find a path leading to the house." Better than crashing through the brush, but it would still be on either side of them. At least it was something.

Kay squinted, looking off ahead as if she would have been able to see the house in question just by doing that. Of course, that wasn't possible. It wasn't in sight. Though, according to Maki, it was at the center of the island. Kay would be able to walk that far, no problem! Besides, she had a job to do and she was determined to complete it!

"Thanks, Maki!" she said with a big grin when Maki said she would protect the girl. That was really nice of her! Normally, Kay felt like she was pretty up to snuff when it came with dealing with the weird things that popped up, but she was still a normal teenage girl and she was perfectly aware of that. There were going to be some things that would be able to take her out and eat her. Someone like Maki could probably fight them, which meant Kay had less to worry about.

But, now they needed to find a path, so Kay walked further away from the coastline so she was able to take a look around. Stepping onto grass, she found a spot where the grass was flattened more. Following it, she noticed it went into a packed dirt trail.

"Hey, Maki, I think I found a trail!" she shouted, looking back towards the mollusk girl.

Maki just let Kay find the trail on her own. The mollusk had done her part in getting her here; now she was taking a break of sorts, sitting up on the girl's shoulder. She did keep an eye out for trouble, though. Pirates, or any creature that would be happy to stuff them into their mouths.

She would like to see them try! If anything got too close to them, it was going to instantly regret it!

"Oh! That's great!" she chirped when Kay announced that she found a trail. "Let's go, then. Try not to look like food~" Because humans were, for the most part, dumb. They tended to look like food when they were in places where they really ought to use common sense. If you're not looking like you're watching your surroundings? Bam! Instant food for a happy carnivore.

At least Kay seemed like a smarter human than that.

Not look like food. Right. Kay could handle that. She spent most of her time not being eaten so she was probably pretty good at that. Of course, she was in a world where she could probably be eaten by a lot more things than she could in her own world. Hopefully, her lack of being eaten before was good enough experience.

"I can do that," Kay said. "I spent my entire life not being eaten so I feel like I'm off to a good start."

Kay started off down the track, paying attention at first to how the land was. It seemed more or less stable with no roots sticking out of it, which meant she wasn't likely to trip and fall flat on her face. After everything she had done so far that day, tripping would have just been a super embarrassing addition to it all.

This island was quite nice, though. She was able to hear birds chirping now that they were getting away from the shore, even if she couldn't see them. A butterfly went past her face, and she watched it go. It was really pretty. Unlike a lot of girls her age, she wasn't scared of bugs. She wasn't a particular fan of them. But, she wasn't scared. And, butterflies were really pretty.

"How long have you been out here?" Kay asked as she continued up the trail. The house wasn't in sight yet so they might as well talk. She made it sound like how long she had been out in the country somewhere, but she meant in this world.

In a movie where a girl was walking through the brush on a tropical island, something terrible would've happened by now. It was almost a disappointment that nothing even bothered to show up trying to eat Kay. Not that Maki would let anything eat her, but still. It was so calm and peaceful that the only thing they could really do was chat.

"You mean on this planet?" Maki placed a finger to her chin. "Let's see... I think I came here around Month Three. I live in Radiant Garden now. It's really nice!" Hah! Anyone who was too careless living in that town was likely to get dragged away by Heartless. Maki wasn't careless, and they seemed too stupid to notice her, anyway.

Yeah, she was living there. Everyone thought she was this sweet, tiny little girl who sometimes needed help getting her groceries back to her house because she was so small and the stuff she bought was all normal sized. She played with the kids and helped old ladies cross the street. And Maki planned to keep everyone thinking that way.

"What about you?"

Wow, month three? That seemed so long ago. It felt even more long ago because Kay wasn't here yet.

"Month Seven," Kay said in response to Maki's question of when she got there. "It feels shorter than that, but maybe that's because I'm not going to school here." It seemed like too much of a hassle when she got here. She was in her final year of school, sure, but how was she supposed to graduate? She wasn't even sure if the curriculum here was anything like her own. It was totally possible that she didn't know anything that the schools here were learning, and then she would be so far behind. Some places didn't even have high schools nor did they think they were important. She had decided to work instead. She made the decision to decide to finish up high school whenever she did get home, even if it meant doing online courses. She would get it done eventually.

Besides, she never even thought about going to university. The goal had always been to be a pro tankery player. Maybe she could get a league going here; that would be fun.

Before she had much chance to say anything else, she saw the trees start to break away. In front of them was a high fence. Kay looked for a gate. Once she saw it, she jogged towards it. There was no latch on the outside though. Clearly, a tall guy lived here and didn't like visitors all that much.

"Do you think can get on the other side so I can open this?" she asked Maki.

Month Seven? That was just a little over the halfway mark. Maki could see why time seemed to fly by so fast. There was a lot to take in, and Kay wasn't bogged down by school. There were a lot of students around who weren't going to school now, either preferring to work, study at home or both.

They reached a high fence with the gate closed and no latch on this side. Since she wasn't in Kay's line of sight, Maki rolled her eyes. Did this guy even know that he was supposed to be waiting for a delivery? How was anyone supposed to get to him if he didn't let them through the gate? "Leave it to me!" she chirped before launching herself into the air and vaulting over the gate.

After she found the latch on the other side, Maki undid it and opened the gate. "Tah-dah~!" She didn't hear any alarms going off and she wasn't sure if there was a silent one. She didn't care either way. If the guy had a problem with it, then maybe he should've left the gate open so Kay could get through in the first place!

Kay waited as Maki went to the other side of the tall gate to flip the latch. Staring up at the top, she thought one would have to be fairly tall to even be able to reach over this gate in the first place. Kay was short, sure, but she couldn't have been so short that someone built a gate that was out of her reach. Or, maybe he just didn't really like visitors. Though she thought that would be odd, as what did he do when he went out? Did he need something to help him open it? Did he leave it open? Did he hop the fence somehow?

There were so many questions that Kay wondered about a simple gate, but she wasn't going to get any answers when it came to that. How exactly did one bring that up? Kay might be fairly outspoken, but even she couldn't figure out how to ask such a thing without coming across as nosy and rude, which her parents taught her not to be. It could also come across as her trying to figure out how to break into the place, which she didn't want to do at all.

"Sweet," she said as she slid in through the open gate. On this side, there was a cobblestone pathway that led in a not-so-straight line to the front of the house. It was a quaint two story home. It looked like it was big enough for a family, but also wouldn't be too out of place if someone lived there by themselves.

Kay made her way to the front door and hang the buzzer. Somewhere on the second floor and through an open window, she could just hear the sound of someone opening a door.
