Huh. So this was the Russia Sushi that everyone's been talking about.

Sami's hunt for those responsible for copying Black Hole Army tech had brought her across the ocean to the Eastern Continent. Then it led her to New Marais, but that was where the trail had gone cold. It was annoying, and she thought a break was in order so she could think it over. Besides, she might overhear something, especially during lunch hour at a popular restaurant.

She got here just in time to claim the last free table for herself. She looked through the menu, ordered something that sounded good and after a short wait, she was digging into her meal.

Black Hole... from what intel she had gathered, they weren't the ones responsible for unleashing the oozium in Santa Destroy. It was someone else, and they had a base hidden somewhere in this city. But where? The battles fought in the past and Mother Nature had not been kind to New Marais. Were they hiding in one of the wrecked areas of the city? In the swamp? Or somewhere closer, in plain sight?

Ugh... she needed more intel. Sami flipped through the local newspaper as she ate... maybe there was something in there that could tip her off to her quarry's whereabouts.

Being sneaky was Eggman's forte, of course.

He had come to New Marais, tailing after someone who had some vital technological information. It had been quite the easy job to get into the guy's stuff and steal the codes he had for his company. It was an up-and-coming robotics company, something Eggman did not approve of. He was going to put an end to it, and quickly.

No one on this planet was going to be making high tech robotics, but him. NO ONE.

Now that he had the codes safely tucked into the briefcase he carried, the doctor was going to find somewhere to eat. Out of all the places he heard about in New Marais, a place called Russia Sushi caught his eye. He didn't understand why someone would call their restaurant that - sushi didn't come from Russia, these nitwits! - but if it was delicious then Eggman would go there. He was deserved nothing short of the best!

When he opened the door, he peered inside, somewhat suspiciously, before he made his way to a table. He glanced around the room again, noting no one of particular interest before setting his briefcase down with the utmost of care, as if it held a bomb and not paperwork. Then, he took a seat.

Sami glanced up from her paper as the door opened, raising an eyebrow when she saw who it was. It was one of the world's celebrities, as some people would call them, trying to look like he wasn't up to anything bad. Right. She immediately pegged him as non-threatening - because Doctor Eggman surely had other things to do besides terrorize random restaurants - then she went back to her paper and her food.

The other customers were a little more uneasy.

There were a few who didn't pay the doctor any mind, but for the most part, the lunchtime chatter quieted. Any people who didn't recognize him immediately were more concerned about his briefcase, as if it held a bomb. Because genius mad scientists kept bombs in the most obvious of places, the same kind of places everyone saw in the movies.

Sami sighed. Seriously, guys? Go back to talking with each other and leave the man alone. Until an army of robots swarmed New Marais, she was just going to assume that he was here for the same reason as everyone else - to eat lunch.

Eggman was oblivious to the stares that the people in the restaurant were giving here. As far as he was considered, he was looking as inconspicuous as a person possibly could.

There were still napkins on the table he sat at. Clearly, someone had just vacated the table he was at so soon before he arrived that the staff didn't have any time to wash it yet. With a look of disdain on his face, he picked each napkin up, almost daintily, and dropped them on the floor where the staff could do their jobs properly and pick them up where they weren't bothering him.

Eggman licked his lips as he looked around. He could smell some of the sushi, and that was making him hungry.

A server came to his table and offered a menu, which he snatched up immediately. While reading it, he held it in front of his face like some sort of shield so no one would be able to see him or recognize him. No one was going to cause him problems during his meal, nosiree!

If Eggman was the most suspicious person here, that would be one thing. But the door opened again as a couple stepped out; before it could close, another person slipped in. Sami noticed him immediately.

It wasn't because he was wearing almost nothing but black, nor was it because his eyes were covered by a pair of sunglasses. Nor was it because a scarf concealed the rest of his face. It was his presence. Something about him seemed... off to her. Nobody else noticed, of course - they were either focusing on their own meals or worrying about the doctor. Civilians didn't always have the best of senses.

The man occupied the table that the couple just left and a server came over with a menu for him. Sami pretended not to notice him, but she was watching. As the man pulled his scarf down past his chin to speak, the server was taken aback by the sight of her newest customer's sickly green skin.

Now, that was interesting.

Eggman checked over his menu. It did look like there was going to be some good food here. A server came by and took his order, so he leaned back in his seat and took a good look around the room.

There wasn't anyone of interest to him. He was used to seeing all kinds these days. It was hard nowadays to pick out someone who actually looked important or out of the ordinary.

As he was passing all of these people off as nothing, the door opened and someone who did look interesting caught his eye. The newcomer was covered nearly from head to toe, as if they didn't want to be recognizable. Eggman could tell that much; they weren't dressed in any sort of style that suggested this was some sort of cultural or social thing. They were dressed specifically to cover.

Eggman found that interesting, keeping an eye on him though it wasn't so noticeable due to his sunglasses. Clearly, this guy was up to something shady.

Things could more interesting when he revealed he was green. Not many green people were running around.

Sami had an idea of who - what, even - that person could be. Of course, there was only so much she could learn about him while they were at the restaurant. She slowed down on her meal, just a little so it wouldn't be noticeable. It helped that she already had a newspaper, which suggested to the other customers that she was taking her time eating while she read.

Eventually, the man got the meal he ordered. There wasn't anything weird about how he ate. Sami finished off her meal and paid for it, then folded up her paper and headed outside with it. If she hung around indoors for too long, it would be a little suspicious. On the other hand, there was no other way for the man to leave besides the front door.

So she was going to wait for him outdoors, on the other side of the street. There was a store here she could browse while keeping an eye on the restaurant. Once he left, she was going to follow him and see where he went. He might be the key to solving the case of the stolen Black Hole tech.

Eggman's food was delivered to him, and he ate it without much comment. It was good, but he had had better. He made robots for his kitchens that were better sushi chefs than whatever Russian guy was working the counter. He presumed he was Russian, anyways. Why call the place Russia Sushi if there were no Russian people here? It was just idiocy!

When he finished his meal, he noted that the green guy was finishing up at around the same time. He was still intrigued, so he dropped the money he owed onto the table before snatching up his briefcase. He kept his eyes on the guy as he wandered out of the restaurant.

Counting to ten, Eggman went out after him. It wouldn't be suspicious; he had finished at roughly the same time. No one would suspect him of following the man. He was going to see why the man looked so funny. Clearly, he was up to no good and Eggman was going to discover why.

Sami bought a tank keychain for Kay while she waited. She had to buy something - she was using this store for cover and it was only right to make a purchase. It had to be something small enough for her to stuff into one of her pockets and that was the first thing she saw that made sense. Hopefully, Kay would like it.

No sooner was she handed her receipt did the green man leave the restaurant, once again covered up. So Sami followed him from this side of the street. Since there were other people around, going the same way, nobody would assume that she was actually tracking him. To them, she was just another pedestrian on the sidewalks. The rifle slung over her shoulder wasn't even shocking, especially compared to some of the other weapons Sami saw around her.

The man turned down another street and she did the same, keeping to her side. Sami paused at a few storefront windows, as if she was checking them out, but she didn't linger for too long, keeping her quarry in her sights.

Eggman wished he brought something on him to deal with someone in case of trouble. Getting a hold of the papers in the briefcase was easy enough. He didn't need a gun or anything at all. It would have been nice...

Wait. He did have something.

As he turned the corner of the street, following after the green man, he slipped a hand into his pocket and pulled out a small robot, one that looked remarkably like a real life insect. If someone found it on their being, though, it was more likely to hurt them than it if they tried to smack it off or squish it - its shell was just that hard and was made so it wouldn't be squished.

He released the bug to the ground, and it crawled with exceptional speed to the man before climbing up his leg and disappearing from any physical sight. Eggman was fairly sure he knew where it would go. Then, he pulled out a phone and looked at it. to anyone, he was doing what those kids these days did where they had their faces constantly staring at the screen. He didn't look so out of place. No one who saw his screen would be able to tell he was tracking the man now with that too on a program he made himself that didn't even look like a tracking program.

Sami followed the man out from the heart of the city and down into the outskirts. The further they traveled, the less intact everything appeared, the result of battles, poverty and neglect. The marshier the ground got, the less buildings there were for the commander to hide behind. She was able to manage, however, and soon the green man led her to this particularly large, brand new building smack dab in the middle of the swamp.

They weren't really trying to conceal themselves, were they.

It was possible that they just thought that nobody would venture out here to notice it, and that if anyone did, they would just avoid it due to how suspicious it looked. The green man had gone inside, but Sami spent a few minutes watching the place. Nobody else went through the front doors. There were cameras, but as she circled around the building from a distance, she found a blind spot in their coverage.

Trained as she was for stealth, it was easy enough to approach it, climb up a nearby ladder and slip in through an upstairs window. The interior was like a factory. She hoped it wasn't making what she thought it might be making.

Now that Eggman was tracking the guy, he didn't have to worry so much about staying behind him. Instead, he let himself fall back a bit, even crossing a street that the green man didn't cross, just so he could walk along him on the other side of the street. Every now and again, he glanced up to take a look at the man, making sure he was still in sight. He didn't want him to fall out of sight, not just yet.

They left the more crowded buildings, which meant Eggman needed to be better at keeping out of sight. It was only because he happened to be a master of espionage that he was able to go unnoticed as he followed him to what must have been his group's hideout.

It was rather... obvious. Eggman was pretty good at making secret hideouts. It was almost a hobby for him, to be honest. He had some of the best hideouts he ever seen in his entire life. Even if airship was a hideout, and it was quite amazing - a legendary work of art. These people needed a few tips.

"Idiots," he muttered to himself before he started using his trackers to look for an easy way inside. He was going to sneak in - the way that was the simplest and required the least amount of work on his behalf while still remaining hidden - because he was curious and he wanted to know what was going on inside there.

Maybe they had more juicy things for him to steal.

Sami made her way past the various rooms, evading the few cameras that guarded the corridors. There weren't very many of them, likely because someone thought that nobody would be dumb enough to sneak into such a suspicious building. Either that, or they were prepared to take out any threats that intruded upon their space.

It was that overconfidence that Sami was currently exploiting. She had only encountered one guard the entire time. Sneaking up on him, she knocked him out, dragged him out of sight and took his key card. She explored the next few rooms, checking over anything that would provide her with useful info.

There was a larger chamber near the back of the building, and she slipped in and closed the doors before sneaking up to the catwalk. From there, Sami climbed up onto the support beams and pipes above them, remaining out of sight as the doors opened again and in came the green man from the restaurant. He walked to the center of the chamber, studying the rows of large tubes filled with fluid.

Most of them were occupied by humans with the same sickly skin, in various stages of development.

The man finally went up to the console that was managing life support, apparently to run some maintenance.

Sneaking through the building was proving simply too easy for Eggman. As someone who built many a security system in his day, it made it all the easier for him to move around and avoid being caught. The way the system here was set up was very simple to Eggman. Bare basics, really. It was honestly almost embarrassing for him to think he was dealing with someone who couldn't stand up to his standards.

Of course, they didn't know they were supposed to meet any. They didn't know he was here. He was going to keep it that way.

Eggman ducked into a secluded room and checked to make sure it was empty and unused, so he was able to check his tracker. The man had entered some room he seemed prepared to stay in, so Eggman had his tracker bug crawl off and move somewhere that it was able to get a better view of the room in question. Then, his screen changed to show what was going on in the room.

It was some sort of experimental chamber, filled with glass tubes that also contained more green skinned people. Eggman frowned. What was going on here? Were they growing humans? Even he had never tried something so... inhumane. He only ever experimented on small animals, and that was completely different! Besides, he didn't need them to power his robots, not anymore.

Sami waited. She knew some people considered her a hothead, and she would be the first to admit that she had a temper at times. But she also had a great amount of patience, suitable for a both a commander and leader of her nation's special forces. Time ticked by and she remained in her spot, completely still and dead silent. Two hours later and a woman in a lab coat dropped by the chamber. Sami noted that unlike the man, she looked completely normal.

The two talked - something about progress and resources that they soon needed - and the researcher then left, leaving the green man alone with his duties.

Eventually, the man seemed to have finished his work. Giving the rows of tubes one last check, he turned to leave. Sami crept down from her hiding spot near the ceiling and hid near the doors. Just before he was able to open them, she made her move, grabbing him and dragging him into the shadows.

He struggled, but was no match for her strength. A shout for help died on his lips the moment he felt a sharp blade against his throat. "I wouldn't do that." Sami's tone of voice left no room for argument. "Not if you want to live out the rest of your lifespan, clone."

"You... you're a CO!"

"Right. Now, I've got some things I want to ask..."
