Dorumon looked from one path to another, but both of them looked exactly the same.

The Digimon sighed. Everyone at home had told him not to wander into this forest, but he ended up here anyway. It hadn't been on purpose - he had been trying to get to Konoha. Somewhere along the way, he had taken a wrong turn and ended up in the nearby woods, known for making people wander aimlessly until they either escaped... or not.

The first thing he had tried when he had realized what had happened was to call Holland and tell him that he was lost and needed help, but his phone couldn't get any reception in here. Maybe the trees were blocking the signal?

It wasn't just the signal they were blocking. In some areas, Dorumon couldn't see the sky.

Choosing the left path, Dorumon started walking down it. Never before had a forest made him feel so uneasy. Every little sound - a bird's call, a nearby bush rustling, a twig snapping, what sounded like laughter in the distance - caused his ears to twitch and him to turn and look that way, waiting for something to jump out and attack him. Maybe he should've stayed home today... or taken the train... or even asked someone who lived with him to tag along...

Just as he was dwelling on that, he heard a howl. With a gasp, the dragon dove into a nearby bush and curled up, out of sight. Was that a wolf? Even non-Digimon wolves worried him; they usually hunted in packs. He didn't think he could take on an entire wolf pack by himself!

Holland walked through the grass, his footfalls barely making a sound. If he hadn't known Raikou was walking behind him, he would have been unaware of her presence, seeing as he was making just as little noise as Holland was. But, they had left the Axolotl together. Unless Raikou wandered off - which Holland wouldn't exactly be surprised if it happened - he knew that he was behind him.

They were in the Forest for a reason. Holland wanted to see if they were able to try and navigate it. He started at an end far away from Konoha and had chosen to try and make his way there. So far, they were alright. Holland carried a tablet that had information on the Forest that the group had gathered. Unlike some members of the Network, Holland knew that bringing something with him to help navigate his way around was smarter than using absolutely nothing.

As he entered into another area of the Forest, he heard the sound of a bush rustling. This caused Holland to stop. Raikou bumped into him, probably on purpose, but he didn't fall forward.

"Did you hear that?" he asked out loud. His voice seemed to echo and bounce off the trees, no matter how quiet he was trying to be.

Raikou made a grunt in response before he stepped around Holland and started sniffing around the bushes. Eventually stopping at one, he nudged it with his head.

The moment Dorumon realized that he wasn't alone, he froze in his hiding place. 'Please don't look this way...' While he was capable of defending himself, he'd rather avoid a fight if possible. When Digimon - and humans and other beings, too - fought, they got hurt. Dorumon didn't want to get hurt, but also, he didn't want to hurt anyone if he could help it.

But the voice he heard was very familiar to him, and he lifted his head. Then something nudged the bush he was hiding in, startling him. The dragon froze again, but this time he recognized who was out there by their scents.

"Raikou?" he asked out loud, sticking his head out of the bush. And behind the big Legendary Pokemon was... "Holland?" Dorumon crawled out from hiding and shook his fur, getting rid of some pesky leaves and twigs that had stuck to him. "Am I glad to see you two..." He could've ended up staring at the sharp teeth of a wolf. Not a friendly one, like Ammy or MetalGarurumon, but one that wouldn't have any qualms dragging him off to its pack and letting them tear him into chunks of data.

Hopefully, whatever had made that howl wasn't coming this way.

Raikou backed up when someone friendly popped out of the bush. Holland was surprised. He knew Dorumon was off the ship, but he had expected him to head towards Konoha. He didn't think he was going to be here in Kokiri Forest. It wasn't exactly the type of place he thought someone like Dorumon would be in. Dorumon, in comparison to so many others on the Axolotl, was fairly timid. He normally seemed to do his wanderings with Mei, but the girl was out and Dorumon had opted to travel by himself. Holland still didn't expect him to be here.

"What are you doing here?" Holland asked as he walked over. He stopped close to Dorumon, reaching to pick a loose leaf off the Digimon's head. He had seen Digimon before - he had been in the world for quite some time in comparison to some other people - but he didn't typically interact with them. Unlike Pokemon who were often seen traveling in locales with their trainers, Digimon weren't often seen in the cities. There were a few, of course, but not many.

Either way, Dorumon was the first one that Holland spent any sort of time with.

Raikou moved away from them like he was looking around to make sure they were secure. Or, he was looking for food. Holland sometimes couldn't tell with him.

Unsurprisingly, Holland asked Dorumon what he was doing here. Everyone they lived with knew that he didn't go running off into dangerous areas without a good reason. When out traveling, he often took the train because it was both fast and safe. If he did have to travel on foot, then he stayed far away from places where the inhabitants were likely to try eating him.

"I'm trying to get to Konoha," he replied sheepishly, "but I think I took a wrong turn and ended up lost." The forest they were currently in didn't exactly help. So many twists and turns... and the little sounds he heard really got to him...

"What are you guys doing here?" Dorumon then asked, looking up at Holland. "Are you lost, too?"

Dorumon was on the way to Konoha and got lost on the way. That was believable to Holland. It wasn't because he thought Dorumon incapable of finding his way to the ninja village on his own. No, it wasn't that at all. But, it definitely was that Kokiri was a nearly impossible place to navigate.

"We're here on purpose," Holland said. "We're trying to see if they can make heads or tails of this place." Kokiri was dangerous, but it still wasn't as dangerous as some other places in the world. Of course, that was if you weren't counting the part where people mysteriously disappeared within the forest on a regular basis. Holland didn't know anyone who actually disappeared here; there was a part of him that wondered if there was a lot of exaggeration going on there.

His eyes wandered over to Raikou, who was still nosing around by the bushes. One of the reasons he brought Raikou with him was for security. Holland trained as a soldier and he was an exceptionally good one, even if he ditched the military years ago. He was perfectly capable of taking care of himself. But, sometimes it was a good idea to bring someone with you.

"Wanna come with?" he asked, looking back at Dorumon. "We can go to Konoha together afterward."

They came here on purpose? With a good reason, though. Still, Dorumon thought that was brave of them. He didn't think he was brave at all, but a lot of people in the Network seemed to be. Some of them even seemed fearless when faced with a dangerous situation.

Dorumon knew that they weren't completely fearless. But they showed courage when it mattered the most. That was important!

"Okay," the Digimon replied, nodding. "I'll come with you." Dorumon felt safer whenever he was with his friends and maybe he could even help them out. As he was, he wasn't very strong, but he could always try evolving if they ran into a threat that the three of them couldn't take out right away. He hoped it wouldn't come to that, though. "Do you know which way to go?"

It might have seemed like such a little thing, but Holland was relieved that Dorumon wanted to come with them. Maybe it was because he was a father now, but he possessed a natural instinct to want to take care of and protect, particularly those who were in his charge. Dorumon might have been a Digimon, but he was still a little bit like a child. Any of the children who lived aboard the Axolotl were his responsibility. That made Dorumon his responsibility as well.

"Raikou," he said over his shoulder. There was a pause before Raikou ambled over to them. He butted Dorumon gently with his head before doing the same with Holland. Then, he yawned, as if being in a place like Kokiri Forest was a bore to him. Holland rolled his eyes, though there was a slight smile on his face.

Holland glanced back down at his tablet that carried the data that they accumulated about the Forest. He only had a bit of an idea where they were, but that was as good as a lot when one was in a place like this.

"This way," he said before he took off again. Raikou waited for Dorumon to follow, so he could bring up the rear.

Giving a small smile to Raikou, Dorumon followed after Holland. He made sure to watch where he was going, stepping over roots that would otherwise trip him if he hadn't known they were there. By now, he was good at evading obstacles. Sometimes, he had to run fast in order to avoid danger. Tripping or getting his claws stuck in something on the ground didn't help at all.

"This forest smells a little funny," he commented. Dorumon wasn't sure why, but maybe it had something to do with just how strange this forest was in particular. Makna Forest had an odd scent that permeated it as well, but Riki explained that as the ether that naturally occurred there, forming deposits and dispersing into the air. Dorumon doubted it was the same thing. So far, he hadn't seen anything that would give off a funny scent like the one he had noticed.

Maybe he was just imagining things. Was that possible?

Holland sniffed the air when Dorumon commented on it, but he didn't smell anything unusual. It smelled just like any other forest to him. Of course, he probably didn't have Dorumon's strong sense of smell, so there was probably something in there that he wasn't able to pick up that his Digimon friend was able to detect.

Instead, he said, "I wouldn't be surprised. There's something way off about this place." While Makna was a large and foreboding forest, it was still just that - a forest. Most of the dangers of the place didn't come from the forest itself, but what was found inside of it. These were things that were easily removable and could have easily existed somewhere else.

But, there was something underlying in the atmosphere of Kokiri itself. Something that was off. Something that didn't seem to mind causing people to mysterious disappear or experience other side effects while here. It was why he didn't come here alone.

"You didn't run into anything while out here yet, have you?" Holland asked, glancing back at Dorumon. If there was something dangerous in the immediate area, it would help to know about it in advance.

Dorumon thought back on the brief time he was here before Holland and Raikou had found him. Then he shook his head. "Not really... I saw some birds overhead, and there were a couple of bushes that rustled before I got near them. I checked them, but there didn't seem to be anything wrong..." They were just bushes. Maybe. Now that he was thinking about them, he wasn't so sure.

"It's the noises that bother me the most." Every little sound that might be cause for some concern had made Dorumon feel uneasy. From nervousness, or maybe even paranoia. Anything that could potentially be danger, even though it really wasn't. While it did pay to be wary of one's surroundings, it wasn't really all that fun, wondering just when something was going to jump out and attack him.

He sure hoped that nothing was going to do that to them today...

Dorumon hadn't seen anything yet that could be helpful as they walked, but that was alright. Holland didn't think it was all that likely. Dorumon wasn't one of those people who was trained to look for such things, so if he hadn't seen anything, that was only to be expected. He did hear weird sounds around the place. Holland didn't even need to try; he could hear them too at times.

"Nothing's going to jump out at us," he said, though it wasn't all that reassuring since he knew it was still possible something was going to. He patted the gun that hung on his belt. "If it does, I'll shoot it." Did a gun work very well against supernatural creatures that might be lurking in this forest? Maybe not, but shooting them in the face would probably make him feel better about it as well as give him a chance to think of what to do.

Holland paused for a moment as the path went two ways before deciding to go down the left pathway. The trees above weren't still so thick it was hard to see sunlight, but the path looked less bumpy and easier to walk.

Dorumon felt reassured that he had his friends with him. Traveling with someone always made him feel better. He had spent so much time in the Digital World wandering around alone because nobody wanted him - he had a strange interface on his head and he possessed the X-Antibody. Normal Digimon had shunned him for who he was, because he wasn't supposed to be in their new world.

But he eventually ended up with Tokomon in his care and suddenly, he wasn't alone anymore. Together, they made new friends. After things got better in the Digital World, everyone treated everyone better, no matter who they were.

This world was like the Digital World in that way - no matter who or what you were, there was someone out there who would treat you with kindness and respect.

The pathway that Holland decided on looked slightly more safer, at least for walking on. Dorumon couldn't say the same about the bushes and trees that lined it. He kept having to look around, his ears twitching to every sound. "I heard that people who get lost in here and don't come out end up transforming into monsters..." he said. Then he swallowed. "That really isn't true... is it?"

Holland raised an eyebrow at Dorumon's question. That was a hard one to answer. He heard all the rumours, even seen it on the news. Some people were sure that it happened, though there wasn't as much proof as some people claimed.

"It supposedly happens," Holland said, shrugging one shoulder. "But, people still come and go from here all the time. I think we're safe on that if we don't get lost and linger here too long." Which he wasn't planning on doing.

He patted Dorumon's shoulder to reassure him. "The others know we're here, anyways. If we're gone too long, they'll come looking." And, some of them were better at navigation than he was. He knew it was going to take a lot more than Kokiri Forest to be able to stop Talho from locating him - and maybe strangling him for being careless - if it came to that.

As Holland walked down the pathway, he heard a noise, causing him to stop. Raikou stopped as well, his head raised to the air. That noise wasn't like the other noises in the forest. This one made him suspicious.

After thinking over Holland's reply, Dorumon nodded. "Right." They weren't going to end up lost and they weren't going to stay here for too long. Also, everyone else knew where they were, and they were bound to go looking for them if they didn't return home. There was nothing to worry about. Dorumon felt certain of that now, as he walked with his friends down the forest path.

Until he heard that noise.

Ears pricking upwards, Dorumon stopped and raised up a little on his legs. It had been loud enough for a human like Holland to hear, and Raikou looked like he thought the sound was suspicious. Dorumon had to agree with him. "That... doesn't sound like any noise a forest should make." It seemed unnatural and unlike any of the sounds a forest creature ought to make, even the strange ones that lived in Kokiri Forest.

Already, he had a bad feeling about this. What was that sound?
