The home was drastically different than what they were used to. Doors didn’t open to what one would expect, and there seemed to be a lot of ghosts wandering about. The Homunculus had only really heard of ghosts, and never really seen them. The home they had been in before had haunts, but nothing of this sort. Demons from hell and strange gollums and creatures haunted the halls of the mansion that the Homunculus had previously explored.

In this house, the dead walked. The dead floated among the ceilings and through the walls, and taunted all who approached and entered their home. The Homunculus had no choice when they had arrived here in the dead of night, clueless as to what was going on.

At least, it seemed to be the dead of night, with the sound of thunder yet no sight of rain. The Homunculus had little sense of time, and had no idea of what was truly happening outside of the windows. This, they were used to. The halls were too different. The building had a different layout, and it was now the Homunculus’ belief that all buildings should have the same one.

“You’re new, you’re new,” taunted the ghosts, floating about, lingering in the air as the Homunculus walked past. The spirits laughed and loitered, attempting to change the stone cold expression on the Homunculus’ face.

It never changed, and it won’t. The Homunculus was determined to make their way out of this building. That was how this was going to end if they ever managed to find the exit. For now, they were in an empty hallway, with nothing but doors, and ghosts.

“I’m leaving,” the Homunculus stated in a straight tone, continuing down the hall, ignoring the ghosts.

“Are you really?” asked a ghost, and then the thunder sounded again, finished off with the dark laughter of the ghosts around them. “You’re new in this world, and it’s time for us to play – you’re not alone in this building. We’ll get to play with all of you.”

The doors were all locked, but there had to be a way to escape this haunted house. The Homunculus blinked up at the ghost as they floated about, and turned to go down the nearby stairs without a word.

Perhaps they would run into the other person, or persons, in this building, but right now, they didn’t care. It didn’t matter. They would get out of here.

Oogie Boogie
© Jessica // CURRENTLY Offline

After that ridiculous FAKE fog in Silent Hill - real fog wasn't that stupid and Oogie Boogie normally liked fog - Oogie Boogie needed to go somewhere that made since to him. There wasn't much in this world that really fit that bill. He was used to places that ran on spooks and ghouls, and most of this world didn't have anything much that fit his aesthetic.

But there was one place. Luigi's Mansion. He didn't know who Luigi was or where exactly he had gone off to, but he had a nice house. Honestly, it should have been his house, but Oogie Boogie didn't really need a house. He already owned a castle.

Owned being a relative term.

But, here Oogie Boogie was back in the mansion. Or, in the kitchen, if one wanted to be completely technical. He had been looking at a snack since he was hungry, but it looked like the kitchen didn't have anything to offer him.

"Stupid kitchen," Oogie Boogie muttered, slamming the fridge door shut. It rattled, as if it was going to pop back open but it didn't. He hadn't found any food in there, though he had found a ghost trying to pretend it was a head resting on one of the shelves. It hadn't worked because its body was still visible at throughout the rest of the fridge. Oogie Boogie was almost disgusted; Halloween Town would have never done such shoddy work.

Since there was no food, though, Oogie Boogie decided to take his leave of the kitchen. He banged the door open and stepped outside. A few ghosts floated past him, whispering eagerly about some newcomer who they hadn't seen yet. Oogie frowned. Newcomer? He had heard of no newcomer. He needed to go introduce himself, as all newcomers were meant to be his minions.

So, he followed after the ghosts.

The spirits wandering the halls were taunting and humming little songs. Notes to lyrics that the Homunculus had never heard before drifted into their ears as they were followed. Before, the Homunculus had heard a lot of pianos, for the music of ivory keys used to drift along the hallways of the building.

But no ivory keys played here. No piano music drifted through the hallway. Instead, it was the taunting hums and laughs of a large number of spirits that sounded throughout, bouncing off the ugly wallpaper like nails on a chalkboard. It was…

It was… annoying. Was that the word? It didn’t matter, it didn’t change a thing. Keeping a stony expression, the Homunculus continued down the hallways, trying to find any way out. But, doors were locked, and windows wouldn’t open. Their hand tightened around the handle of the scissors that they had with them, and with one powerful strike, the Homunculus tried to break the glass of a window by stabbing it.

And yet, they merely bounced off as if nothing in this building mattered.

“That won’t work,” stated a spirit. “Perhaps you should ask him?” The Homunculus looked up at the ghost in question, trying to understand what it had just said, when the large form of what seemed to be a sack creature stepped into view.

“What are you?” asked the Homunculus, their tone level, and cold.

Sometimes, navigating these hallways were a pain. The mansion didn't look so big on the outside, but Oogie Boogie wondered if some sort of weird magic was worked on this place to make it as complicated as it was. He wished he could do that sort of magic. It would be useful to the tricks and treats he had for the people in the world. He should just demand it of the Goddess. As the King of Radiant Garden, she had to listen to him.

At no point did the fact that the Goddess hadn't once shown herself to him even crossed his mind.

But, Oogie Boogie knew he had come across the "newcomer" the ghosts had mentioned when he saw a figure that didn't match anything else in this place.

Well, it sort of matched. But, it was on the scrawny side and was dressed in a silly way that Oogie Boogie thought would actually look quite at home in Halloween Town. It spoke once he approached, causing him to stop.

Oogie Boogie made a face. It spoke with no emotion. How boring. He knew, just like anyone else from a holiday town, that expression and emotion was important. How was one to do any proper spooking if they weren't showing just how scary they could be.

"Me?" he asked, indicating himself extravagantly. "I am KING Oogie Boogie, of Halloween Town and Radiant Garden!" He looked at it, down a nose he didn't have. "And, what exactly are you supposed to be?"

What stepped before the Homunculus was not a sight that they had seen before. Strange things often wandered the halls of the building they had once terrorized, but this creature was not anywhere close to those… things. The Homunculus calmly tilted their head, considering the strange sack of something as it spoke, and declared itself king of some town called Halloween, and a garden that was apparently Radiant.

Also, apparently it was called Oogie Boogie. The Homunculus was not entirely what to think of the entire sight, and so it got tossed out the proverbial window as something that was irrelevant and not necessary to dwell on. Sure, whatever. Oogie Boogie was king of Halloween and Radiant. The Homunculus had decided that they didn’t care about any of that.

“I’m a Homunculus,” was the cold response when Oogie Boogie asked what they were. “Just that.” It was all they were called and all they were meant to be. There wasn’t much to them or their identity otherwise. The Homunculus glanced back down the hall when more voices began to sound.

The tone and expression on their face didn’t change, but their grip on the handle of the scissors tightened. “… I want out.” The ghosts had said that there was no easy escape from this place, but at least there was one. They just had to find out where exactly it was, and the Homunculus was willing to break whatever it was they could in order to do just that.

A homunculus? Oh. So they were one of those. Oogie Boogie had seen those before, of course. They were normally smaller than the one that was before him now and looked much more like a doll to Oogie Boogie's eyes, but he had seen them. Sometimes, they would inhabit Halloween Town if they had no where else to go. Sometimes, he would just see them around. He even used to see them in his own Bug Town, before it was so rudely extinguished because humans were idiots who couldn't sense a good holiday when it bit them in the arsehole.

How one could possibly think that celebrating something so idiotic as Christmas was better than having Bug Day, Oogie Boogie could never understand. He tried not to think too hard about how humans thought. They weren't the most intelligent species out there. Just look at all the problems they managed to cause themselves.

Nope. Humans were idiots. No greater fact than that.

The homunculus said they wanted out. Out of what? The house? The world? That awfully ugly outfit they were wearing?!

Oogie Boogie didn't bother asking. He assumed it was the first.

"Normally, I find," he emphasized the 'I', as if that changed anything in his statement, "that playing whatever silly game the ghosts around here come up with normally lets you leave immediately afterwards." A ghost came by his face. He swatted it away. It fell through the floor. "I just haven't figured out what they wanted yet," he added, stroking his nonexistent chin in thought.

Oogie Boogie was reminding the Homunculus of Mephistopheles. The way the sack of bugs carried himself, emphasizing his pronoun, and his general demeanor spoke of someone who believed they were in higher power. Or, at least, that held themselves so high up on a pedestal that one kick wouldn’t be enough to cause the entire temple to crumble.

Like it mattered, anyway. To the Homunculus, they were just trying to understand why this sack of bugs was still talking. They watched as he smacked a ghost away and it fell through the wood paneling of the floor, before Oogie continued on, wondering what kind of game the ghosts were trying to play with the two of them.

“I don’t know.” And honestly, they didn’t know. The only types of games the Homunculus would usually play consisted of tearing apart dolls and stuffed animals. Sometimes, if they had the rope and the time, they would even hang their little destroyed creations from the ceiling.

One of the ghosts of this manor gave a haunting laugh from the other end of the hall, before very loudly and rudely shutting the door. A soft piano medley began to play through the building, and the Homunculus resisted the urge to stab something.

“… Make it stop.”

It was becoming increasingly difficult to try and remain calm. An urge of… something began to course through the Homunculus. Fire, red, hot, and the urge to violently slash at something. Which one was that? Which emotion was that?

Oogie Boogie

Oogie Boogie was prepared to share more of his superior knowledge with the child - were they a child because Oogie wasn't even sure as it was incredibly hard to tell - but he was interrupted by something. A ghost down the hallway had laughed and slammed a door shut. He wouldn't have thought much of that as it was quite normal for ghosts in this mansion to do that. It was something else that caught his attention.

Music. A piano, more or less. Really, it could have been a harpsichord but he wasn't sure if ghosts even knew what a harpsichord was, let alone knew how to play one. And, the music wasn't exactly what he would have called pleasing to the ears, but he didn't really have ears so that wasn't even an important point either.

"That must be it," he said, hitting one fist into the palm of his other hand. "The game we need to play is in the music room."

He eyed the child up and down. They clearly were not enjoying themselves. Oogie Boogie entertained the idea that they were like him and had superior taste in music in comparison to the ghosts that roamed the hallways of this mansion. But, then he decided against it. No one had his taste since it was very hard to be as good at life as he was.

He laughed out, holding his belly, though he let it die after a moment.

"If you want to not be a waste of space, follow me," he said to them. They could be his minion. If they were good at it, he would make it a permanent position. Oogie Boogie took off down the hallway; of course, he knew exactly where he was going.

Oogie Boogie declared that the game the ghosts wanted them to play was waiting for them in the music room, where the piano music was coming from. The Homunculus covered their ears, not wanting to get closer to the source of the god awful music. Perhaps it was, but it was a major shame if it was true. The minute they were in the room, the Homunculus was going to destroy the offending piano.

It was only fair. They didn’t like it, that meant that it had to go.

Not exactly desiring to be a waste of space, the Homunculus followed after Oogie Boogie as he made his way down the hallway, seemingly without a care in the world, as if he knew where he was going. Honestly, the Homunculus didn’t care if he did. Chances were, they were going to end up lost either way.

“The music is that way,” the Homunculus spoke, finally, once they had passed by a door where the music was coming from. They were only trying to get this over with, since this was all an absolute waste of time. They just hoped the game the ghosts wanted to play wasn’t that, either. Hopefully it was simple enough to let them go.

Ah, the hallways in this bloody mansion were confusing. There was a part of Oogie Boogie that wondered if this place even made any proper sense. He wouldn't have put it past that dang Goddess to use her weird magic to make the mansion change layout every so often so the people visiting it would have a much harder time getting around.

Oogie Boogie would never admit to the fact that he was possibly lost.

But, the child pointed out where the music was coming from. Oogie Boogie didn't outright acknowledge it aside from sending them a look. Then, he crept up to the door, pressing the side of his head against it like he was trying to listen to the music more closely.

"Yep, this is the room," he said once he moved away from it again. The tone of his voice made it clear he thought it was his own discovery, and that he hadn't been directed to it.

Most people might have opened the door in a sneaky manner and peeked inside to see what they were dealing with. Oogie Boogie wasn't most people, as he simply kicked the door in, knocking it into the wall beyond. What was before them was the dimly lit music room, the piano at its center.

No one was in sight, but the piano was still playing. Curious.

The Homunculus watched as Oogie Boogie kicked the door open. Waiting for them inside, was a piano in the center of a dimly lit room, the keys pressing down gradually to the tune of the offending song. No one was in sight, so seemingly it seemed as if the piano was playing itself. Perhaps it was, but for now, it was time for the piano to die.

A pair of large sewing scissors in hand, the Homunculus approached the piano, a blank expression on their face. They had full intent of reaching into the piano and destroying each of its strings, but unfortunately, the natives of the manor had different plans for the small child.

Just as the child had approached, the piano had stopped playing. The Homunculus blinked at this change of behaviour, but just as they were about to destroy the piano anyway, music started to play again in the room. It was different – coming from a different point in the room, and by a hidden instrument.

At the change of music, the Homunculus blinked and glanced around the room. “… A flute?” Is that what that instrument was? There was a lot of wind instruments. “Why is that playing now?” The Homunculus liked it about as much as the piano. It needed to be destroyed.

… And fast.

The room was filled with the piano music as the pair entered it. Oogie Boogie narrowed his eyes as he looked around the place, as if squinting into the barely lit room was going to reveal a ghost to him. Back in Halloween Town, all he needed was his name for him to be able to make ghosts and ghouls appear before him, trembling in terror.

The ghosts in this world weren't as intelligent as the ones back home, though he didn't quite believe ghosts were all that intelligent in general. They were stuck being ghosts, which typically meant they were unable to move on because they were too idiotic to figure it out. No one wanted to be a ghost. Why be a ghost when you could have been something completely superior? Just like himself, of course. Few had those sorts of options.

He passed as he watched the child approach the piano, only for it to stop playing once it was threatened with scissors. Did that mean there had been an actual ghost playing it? Or was the piano haunted all on its own?

Oogie Boogie didn't care about the answers because a flute had started.

"Stupid musical ghosts," he muttered. "What is with this house and music?" As if it had heard him, the flute playing gotten louder. Oogie Boogie scrunched his face up in a grimace. The music was awful. They needed to get rid of it!

He started stalking around the room, trying to figure out where it was coming from. ...There! He pointed at the far corner, where a small potted plant sat. "Right there!" he said, pointing. "Right about it!"

Oogie Boogie, of course, was a music connoisseur. He was able to identify where the noise was coming from.

Thanks to Oogie’s comment, the flute music had begun to play louder, and the Homunculus wanted to vivisect him. The urge grew, but they relented, knowing that right now, the only thing that would likely manage was make this place even more unbearable to be in.

For now, they had the matter at hand, and that was taking care of this stupid game the ghosts wanted to play. What was it that they wanted now? All they were doing was blaring this music in their ears, in Oogie’s ears, and not giving any amount of explanation for what they were doing or what they had to do in order to get out.

“Play our game,” they had said. They had neglected to declare what kind of game the child and the bag of bugs had to play.

Oogie had, however, made some use of himself and declared where the music was coming from. As intent on stabbing something as they had been before, the Homunculus approached, scissors tight in their hands. “… I will stab it.” Today was the day.

Today will be the day music will die.

Ah, they were going to stab it. Oogie Boogie was okay with that. They had the stabbing equipment while Oogie Boogie had nothing of the sort on him currently. Besides, why did he need to do something when there was someone else here to do the manual labour for him?

He didn't want to full on tangle with the ghosts anyways. Just in case they were dangerous and managed to cut his sack skin. He wasn't sure what he would do then.

Oogie Boogie stepped out of the way of the corner, giving a slight bow as he indicated for them to go and deal with whatever was playing the flute loudly in the corner. Then, he went to investigate the piano, scratching at where his chin should have been. The ghosts wanted them to play, but they didn't say what sort of game they were supposed to do.

He pressed down on one of the piano keys absently, which caused a shriek to burst out of it, causing him to jump back in surprised.

"What the-?"

The flute wasn’t there.

… The Homunculus decided that these ghosts were all going to have second funerals. Ghosts or not, they were going to die, or perhaps be maimed. Whatever happened first, the child figured. For the moment, they had other things they had to deal with.

The sack of whatever had pressed one of the keys to the piano and a loud shriek had emanated from it. The Homunculus turned toward the sack and the piano, still not visible annoyed, but quietly seething with irritation. Whatever that had been was likely connected to this ridiculous game that the ghosts wanted to play with them.

“… It will break,” the Homunculus declared, now returning to the piano, scissors gripped in their hand. “What key?” They directed their attention to the ivory keys of the piano, running a finger lightly across them, but not pressing any of them.
