"Shhh! Do you want someone to hear us?"

"There's nobody here but the monsters, man. Chill."

"You don't know that! Someone could be hiding out on the buildings somewhere."

"Like, who's really going to be out here in the middle of the night. Relax already."

Oh, if they only knew.

Rouge smiled as she peered down from the old rooftop, watching the men. It made sense that they were making the exchange here, in a way. Only the brave came to Oerba, but the brave often chose to avoid the area at night. Darkness limited their sight, allowing the monsters that prowled here to hide in the shadows. Much like she was doing right now.

The two men exchanged bags, then they said their farewells and departed, each going down their chosen path leading out of the ruins. Rouge started to follow one, hopping off the rooftop and using her surroundings to remain unseen. All she needed to do was get that bag he was carrying and head back to her client. An easy job for very good pay.

She just had to wait for her chance. Then she would strike.

Sagiri
© Jessica // CURRENTLY Offline

Sagiri was on the trail of a criminal, and that trail led her to Oerba.

When she was at the College of Winterhold, a sadistic prank was played on the mages - one that could have resulted in the deaths of their innocent students if she and Prince Freyjadour hadn't reacted to the threat as quickly as they did. Once the draugr had been disposed of, Sagiri had been charged with trying to find out who could have done such a thing.

Her first task was to speak with all of the mages, finding out information from everyone who was present. She even trekked up the fort of Briggs itself to speak with a couple of the mages who had gone there to exchange goods with the fort soldiers. She had a few more names for varying mages who were hanging around the world, who she planned on speaking to if she needed to. But, for now, she had several leads she needed to follow.

Her first lead brought her to Oerba. Unlike most, the night didn't bother her. She knew it was dangerous here, but it was a dangerous she was perfectly capable of handling.

Besides, she was on the rooftops and the monsters couldn't quite reach her.

Sagiri walked noiselessly along the rooftops until voices came to her. She crept to the edge of the roof and laid down flat on her stomach, her body unnoticeable in the dark. There were people down there. She wondered if they had anything to do with her job...

The guy Rouge was following was paranoid, always stopping and looking over his shoulder the moment he heard anything. It wasn't because he could hear her - she made no sound for him to hear. Rather, it was probably because of the overall environment he had found himself in. Out in the middle of nowhere at night, in some old ruins prowled by monsters. Definitely the kind of place most people avoided.

But his paranoia gave her an idea, and she picked up a few rocks to put her plan into action.

Jumping at a sound nearby, the man turned to face it, staring into the darkness and waiting for something to attack him. As soon as he reassured himself that it was nothing, Rouge threw another rock, sending it clattering across the ground nearby. Again he turned, eyes wide, then spun around in a circle when she threw a rock against a building.

Then there was silence. He was frozen. She waited.

Unable to take anymore, the guy bolted.

Rouge zipped after him, knocking him down. He screamed, she grabbed his bag and then she was gone, once again hidden in Oerba's shadows. The commotion was enough to cause the other man to turn around and rush to his aide.

Sagiri

Sagiri continued to watch what was going down below her, mildly fascinated. She didn't know what they were supposed to be doing, but she assumed them being here in Oerba meant they weren't up to anything good.

Someone else must have agreed because she could tell someone was bothering them. That much she could tell. One of the men was showing signs of paranoia and someone was taking advantage of it by throwing rocks. She couldn't quite see where they were in the darkness - unlike most towns and cities, there were no lights because Oerba was abandoned - but she could generally tell where they were coming from.

She was left wondering why someone was doing that at their own risk when she noticed something. The man bolted, but he was knocked down. She was able to see something do it, but she couldn't see what it was. And, then his bag was missing.

How peculiar.

Ignoring them, Sagiri climbed down from her rooftop and made it across the street without anyone noticing. Then, she made her way back onto the roofs, trying to spot what it was that had caused the disruption.

Now they were searching for her. Of course they would be. Rouge had just taken something very valuable from them. Her client clearly agreed that whatever she had in the bag was valuable, which was why the bat was getting paid pretty well just to bring it to them. If those men found her, they would likely do anything just to get it back.

Well, they would just have to find her first.

Rouge slipped into one of the abandoned buildings. She didn't stay near the doorway, but in another room where she could easily see it. Just in case one of those men decided to search in here. Opening the bag, a soft glow illuminated Rouge's face for the briefest of moments as she confirmed its contents. Sealing it shut, she left the room and headed up the stairs.

Finding a window, she opened it as quietly as she could. Rouge had gotten what she came here for. Time to go, and leave those men to search for her in vain.

Sagiri
© Jessica // CURRENTLY Offline

Sagiri moved quickly along the rooftops. It was a typical way for her to travel when she a member of Nether Gate. Those weren't times she liked - she chose not to remember much of where those rooftop trips took her - but she knew that those times also gave her the skill set she now had to perform tasks better than others.

In the window to the building in front of her, she saw something. Someone was in there.

Sagiri felt indecisive for a moment. Someone could be dangerous, and she could cause conflict. Maybe she would get hurt. But, she knew she was a hard kill to make, and if she did die, she most likely deserved it for all the pain she had caused in her life.

Taking a deep breath, Sagiri leaped down into the now open window, tucking herself into a roll as she hit the floor and sprung up onto her feet. It took her only a moment to realize who else was in there.

"Hello," she said, not drawing her weapons.

Before she could even climb out the window, Rouge spotted someone hurtling towards her. Quickly, she jumped back and out of the way, ready to attack if whoever it was attacked her first. She might give them a swift kick in the rear just for jumping into her window to begin with. How rude it was to jump into a window when a lady was already using it!

But, as she saw who it was, she smiled.

"Hello, Sagiri." Rouge paused to listen to the sounds outside of the building. Those guys weren't anywhere near here, from what she could tell. Sagiri was silent in her movements, something Rouge was impressed with. "Fancy meeting you all the way out in a place like this." Oerba wasn't exactly a place a girl ought to go, unless they had some important business here.

As curious as Rouge was, she wasn't going to pry. As long as Sagiri didn't feel like prying into her own reasons for being here. Then it would be only fair to pry back.

Sagiri

Rouge remembered her. Sagiri was pleased. She knew just how forgettable she could be. She wasn't the easiest person to converse with, so it was quite common for people to simply forget they had ever seen her. If she didn't talk to them at all, it was even easier.

But, Rouge remembered her and Sagiri couldn't help but feel gratitude. She didn't think Rouge was the type of person to easily forget, even if she herself was easily forgettable. Maybe she was starting to be more impactful in this world. She doubted it, but it was a nice thought to have.

"It's nice to see you again, Rouge," she said, brushing off the dirt she accumulated from rolling on the floor in her entrance. "It's been a while." Sometimes, Sagiri couldn't quite keep track of time in this world. She rotated from being busy to being not so busy, and she didn't quite care too much about days and their passing when she wasn't on a job. Maybe it hadn't been so long since she had seen Rouge last. Who knew?

"Are you working?" she inquired. "You haven't happened to see a guy who was up to no good out here, have you?" She pointed vaguely at the wall where the street and the two men would have been. "Besides them."

"Oh, I'm just doing a simple retrieval." Rouge casually lifted the bag she had swiped from one of the men earlier. "I'm pretty much done, as you can see." She just needed to get out of here and deliver it. And get paid, of course. Rouge wasn't doing this just for the thrill of the hunt. Like a lot of other people on this planet, she used her skills to work for a living, and her expenses weren't exactly on the thrifty side.

But it seemed like Sagiri was here for a job of her own, and that there was a third guy prowling around the streets of Oerba in the middle of the night. "I haven't seen anyone else, but if you need an extra pair of eyes, I suppose I can spare some time to help." A quick search shouldn't affect her deadline - she was already well ahead of it. Besides, Rouge believed in doing favors for possible future favors. Who knows, she might have use for a detective later on.

Sagiri
© Jessica // CURRENTLY Offline

Oh, Sagiri was sure that Rouge was definitely here for one of her jobs. Rouge's job wasn't so different from Sagiri's own, to be honest, though Sagiri might have had more that she was supposed to be doing. And, she was supposed to be doing it specifically to help people. Part of her paying back for all the death and sadness she had caused as a youth was her making sure she did things that helped people. She used to avoid doing it on her own, but know, without Oboro or Shigure around, it was what she made a living off of.

Rouge offered to help her; Sagiri decided to take her up on this offer. Rouge was a bat. Her eyesight should be far superior to Sagiri's in the dark. No matter of training could naturally change that.

"That would be nice," she said with a small nod. "I'm sure he's the only other person besides us and those men outside here. Not a lot of people go skulking around this place at night." It was a dangerous and dumb thing to do, if one chose to do that. She needed to go back outside, though. There were no other noises in this house and she knew waiting for him to come this way wasn't a good idea. He was likely to hold himself in a building, particularly because it was nighttime.

"Then let's find him, shall we?" Rouge pulled the bag's strap over her shoulder and secured it. There, now she didn't have to hold onto it. She would be able to move better without carrying something so bulky around in her hands. She didn't ask what the guy they were now searching for looked like. Besides them and the two men out there, he ought to be the only other person in Oerba.

Unless there were some dumb kids blundering around in the dark here. Rouge was sure that there were some who just had to see Oerba at night for whatever reason. If there were, they would probably hear them screaming sooner or later.

Giving Sagiri a wink, Rouge stepped up onto the windowsill and jumped out. Her leathery wings caught the air and she was off, gliding over buildings that have long been abandoned. The two men from earlier had stopped looking for her because they were too busy running away from a large shadow that lumbered after them. She decided to let them deal with that on their own and focused on this new task of hers.

Sagiri

Sagiri was glad that Rouge was willing to help her out. She needed to go outside and see if she could locate the man she was trying to find. He could have moved from where he had been before when she was searching. Hopefully, he didn't go somewhere she already looked. That would be problematic. She would have to go there all over again.

She waited until Rouge was out the window before she climbed onto the window sill. If she was less agile than she was, she would have had much more trouble than Rouge getting onto the window. She was, after all, much bigger than the bat woman. But, she was used to making herself fit when she wanted to. She turned easily on the small wooden sill and grabbed the edge of the window, hauling herself up. She was able to wedge her foot into cracks on the house's wall until she got himself onto the roof, where she wanted to be.

Down below, she heard a Cie'th lumbering around. She wondered if one made its way under the window. If she dropped down, she might have been attacked. She wasn't going to do that, though. Instead, she started going the way she was heading before she got distracted by Rouge and the deal that was going on in the streets below.

It looked like they had a Cie'th to deal with too. That was a shame. She hoped they were equipped to deal with it. They should be if they planned to come here.

Rouge flew in silence. She was a bat, one of those 'creatures of the night', as so many humans liked to put it. While she also spent quite a few waking hours during daytime - like most people - it wasn't like the humans were completely wrong. Rouge felt comfortable prowling these ruins in the darkness, which she could see very clearly in. Her ears picked up every little sound and since Oerba was currently very quiet, she had an easier time sorting through the usual noise of the environment and anything she ought to take note of.

After several minutes of seeing and hearing nothing but Cie'th - as well as those two men causing a stir in the streets below - Rouge heard something unusual. A cough.

She honed in on it, flying right to another building. Quietly, she checked the interior by peering in through the windows and damaged areas in the wall, never staying long enough to be seen. Rouge eventually spotted a man in one of the rooms, huddled in the corner. Either he was cold, or he was trying to remain as unnoticeable as possible.

Bingo.

Since she now knew that Sagiri was here, it was easier to find her. Rouge approached from behind, drifting just close enough to whisper into the detective's ear without having to land. "Building to the northeast, with that big Cie'th standing in front of it."

Sagiri

Sagiri moved along the rooftops, stepping carefully. She was very light on her feet, so she wasn't so concerned for any rooftops that might have collapsed under some weight. She was able to feel them out and hear any oddities quite easily, making them easy for her to avoid as well. It made her walk along the buildings a tad bit slower than it would have been, but it was better to be safe than sorry. She didn't want to draw attention to herself from the Cie'th. That would be... not amusing.

She heard Rouge approach behind her, but she didn't stop her trek. When Rouge whispered the suspected address in her ear, she simply changed course, going in that direction instead of the one she was going in previously. She was right, though. He was in a part of Oerba she hadn't gone to yet. It was lucky; she didn't want to have to back track to areas she already scoped out.

The only obstacle in her way was having to take a running jump across a main street. There were two Cie'th lumbering in the street below, but they didn't notice her as she landed noiselessly on the roof she aimed for. From there, she continued on, getting closer to her destination.

Now that Sagiri was on her way, Rouge left her to fly back to the building. This time, she flew a little higher, getting a better view of the ruins while keeping out of the sight of anyone who might be looking for her. Which, for now, was limited to those two men running from the Cie'th. The treasure hunter watched them as they tried to figure out just how to lose it.

They eventually lost it around a corner. Cie'th weren't exactly bright - they seemed to run mostly on instinct - and it was easy enough to lose one if you were quick enough. The men started searching for her again, although they never thought to look up at the sky. Everything was quiet until one of them stupidly stirred up a nest of flying Cie'th which were not only quicker, but they came in a swarm.

And there they go again. Rouge made sure she moved just a tad higher so she was out of the swarm's line of sight. They seemed to be completely focused on their prey, though, so the risk drawing their ire was minimal.
