Oogie Boogie

Oogie Boogie basically no clue what was going on.

Music instruments were playing all over the place and the piano was screaming. This sounded like some weird story out of Halloween Town, but he normally knew how to deal with those things. He dealt with them by pissing off Jack, and then Jack normally handled it.

But, Jack wasn't here - which was a great thing, of course because he would be ruining Oogie Boogie and his bid to be king of this planet. He would have stopped Oogie Boogie from becoming King of Radiant Garden. No, Oogie needed new minions who would do his bidding for him. And, he had one such minion right now.

Oogie side stepped out of the way so the kid could see the piano better. He pointed at the offending key on the piano.

"That one," he said, probably more dramatically than he needed to. But, he wanted the key to die. The piano too. And, any other musical instruments that might have started up. It was amusing at first, but now this place was starting to give him a headache. Whatever ended this game quickly would be a-okay with him.

With the key indicated, the Homunculus prepared a strike with the scissors. Carefully aimed, and precise, the key was inevitably stabbed, before being completely surgically removed. Then, just because the piano had yet to silence, the Homunculus turned their sights on other keys before finally lifting up the lid and slicing the piano strings that waited inside.

The slaughter of the piano finished, it finally silenced. With the killing of the piano, some of the music in the room halted, though there was still a lone trumpet and the flute still playing. The corner of the Homunculus’ eye twitched, and they turned, trying to find the source of the music.

“I killed the piano,” the Homunculus announced to the room. “The game is over.” They brandished their scissors up in the air as if they would a sword, and the room finally went quiet. The silence was a welcome change, and the Homunculus continued. “We will leave now.” It wasn’t a question or a request. It was a command. A fact. A statement.

Oogie Boogie backed away when the kid decided to brandish scissors at the piano's keyboard. He wouldn't have chosen scissors as a weapon, but he was far more sophiscated than they were, he was sure. He came equipped with all his own tricks that having physical weaponry was beneath him.

At least, that was the type of thing he told himself.

He winced slightly when the scissors hit the keys, but then there was silence. Beautiful, perfect silence. He glanced around the room, the pits that made his eyes narrowed, but nothing else seemed to be wanting to start something with them. That meant they had completed whatever game it was that the ghosts were trying to play with them was finished. They weren't even here to complain because they were such sore losers.

HA! Oogie patted himself on the back for a job well done. Even if he couldn't quite reach his back with his stubby arms. Or, even if he didn't really do anything. He had directed them around; that meant he had done the most work.

"I know where the entrance is," he declared, immediately turning around. He marched his way out of the room and down the hallways, heading for the mansion's entrance.

With the piano killed, the ghosts quieted down, and the game officially over, they could finally rid themselves of this place. Perhaps it would be better off burned, and sacrificed to the pits of the beyond. A house like this had no reason to exist, especially after irking them and causing them to play this pathetic excuse for a game.

The sack was becoming somewhat useful now, however. He knew the way out, and because of that, the Homunculus was willing to follow him. The sooner they got out of the mansion, the sooner the child would be able to work out what exactly was going on.

“I don’t know how I got here,” the child stated in a cool tone to the sack as they walked. “Where is this?” The more they had gathered before they left, the better it would be for them once they were on their own. If they had some answers, then they would be able to figure out how to return to the manor they lived in, and return to the Faust girl to confront her.

But… hadn’t they fallen from the stairs at the end? Surely that would have killed them… Perhaps they had died. Then, how were they here?

All of this was making them angry.

Oogie Boogie's feet made soft swooshing sounds on the carpet as he walked. He didn't particularly care that he was making noises at all. He didn't need to be sneaky. People needed to be sneaky around him! And, they weren't doing such a good job here, were they? No one managed to spook him since he arrived in this place. And, he even managed to take out their piano!

...Relatively speaking. He was in charge of the situation, of course, which meant he was the one who officially did the job, even if someone else did the grunt work for him. That was how minions worked, after all. They did the physical labour while the boss got the credit. If he didn't think it worked that way, then he wouldn't have been the boss. But, he was so he got all the credit. He didn't make the rules.

"Eh?" They didn't know how they got here. Oogie Boogie could laugh at that statement, but he didn't. If he was being honest with himself, he wasn't sure how exactly he supposedly got here himself. He was told that the Goddess deposited him here while he slept and there was nothing he could do about that. He never seen this Goddess personally. He believed her to be real, but he thought she was rude and didn't know how to properly treat a king.

"The Goddess brought you here," he said. There was a smug tone in his voice, as if he thought he had superior knowledge. "You're stuck here now, kid, just like the rest of us. No going home for you, so get used to it!"

He laughed as he pushed open a door. Beyond it was the front foyer. They were at the entrance.

So, a Goddess was what brought the child to this place. The Homunculus was not sure why, but the very thought of being a deity’s plaything made something boil inside of them that wasn’t all that nice. It felt heavy in their midsection, and the Homunculus decided they didn’t particularly like it.

The sack was saying that they were stuck here, and there was no leaving. No returning to the manor they once haunted… meaning no more dolls or toys for them to steal and destroy. The Homunculus looked down at the wood floor.

Everyone in this world’s lives just became the hell that would become their playground.

“What am I supposed to do?” the Homunculus asked as the sack led them into the front foyer, and never had a front door looked so satisfying. “There’s no Elisabeth.” No girl to haunt, no toys to destroy, no… nothing. They’ve always had a purpose, and suddenly that purpose was wrenched from them. They didn’t even have an identity.

As Oogie Boogie crossed the foyer to the front door, he skirted around the area where the chandelier dangled over. He hadn't happened to him yet, but he knew chandeliers. A fair few in Halloween Town liked falling on people when they went by. He wasn't one of the morons who regularly got hit by them, but there were a few people who were. And, he wasn't about to be hit by one right now.

What were they supposed to do? What a silly question. Oogie Boogie was going to eventually be the king of much of the world. He was already the King of Radiant Garden. He wanted to be king of more.

And, if he was going to be king, he was going to need minions. He already had Tron in his castle. Tron made a decent enough secretary. He made sure Oogie had food. That was important. Probably one of the most important jobs one could ever have. Tron should be proud that Oogie appointed him such a thing.

This kid showed that they were capable of hurting things. They were spooky enough, looking like they could fit into the world Oogie came from just fine. He stroked his chin in thought. He could put this kid to use, just like he put most of the kids he knew to use. He didn't have Lock, Shock and Barrel here. He needed a replacement.

"Come with me," he said, rubbing his hands together. "We'll find something for you to do." He pushed open the door and headed outside.

So, it seemed that the sack wanted something from the Homunculus. At his words, beckoning the child to come with him, with his hands rubbed together, the Homunculus stared blankly for a long moment. Truthfully, they weren’t entirely sure of how to react, or what the sack truly wanted. All they knew was what they had been told when they had been created.

Before, they had a sole purpose. To mock and entertain, to provide a visage for Elisabeth’s twin sister. To mock her, to steal her toy. They had been told only they things they required to know, and everything else had been self-taught. Their only playground was that of a manor with two floors and a flurry of hallways, haunted and empty.

Beyond that door was an entire world.

The Homunculus could barely even fathom it. And, honestly, the thought caused a strange feeling to center in on their midsection, though very different from the anger that had been buried there not mere moments before.

What kind of stupidity would it take to say no to an offer to leave, to at least go with someone who could, might, or perhaps lead them in this new world?

The Homunculus was quiet for a moment, before stepping forward. “… Okay.” And with that, they stepped outside for the first time, into an open world.
