Durnehviir
© Jen // CURRENTLY Offline

The nighttime glow of Neo Domino City shone below him. Bright, futuristic, telling of wonders that the mortals of Tamriel could only imagine in their dreams.

Perched high up on the roof of a skyscraper, Durnehviir watched as the city lived and breathed, an expansive patch of humanity carved out of the land by the ocean's edge. The streets and highways were lit up by many a moving vehicle, and those who chose to walk to their destinations filled up the sidewalks. So many souls down there; little did they know of the creature that was watching them from so high up.

This city was one of several places he often stopped at during his flights across the planet. However, unlike Radiant Garden - where the people have long since grown used to seeing him perched up on the castle roof - the dragon only came to Neo Domino at night. The mortals here were more easy to frighten, and their security forces often pursued anything that they considered a threat to the city's citizens. A large rotting dragon flying around and swooping down onto the streets was bound to cause mass panic, so Durnehviir chose to visit under the cover of darkness.

With so many towering buildings here, he had plenty to choose from. Durnehviir preferred the ones with few lights and no cameras, where it was unlikely that anyone would spot him.

Others of his kind would consider it, but he had no plans to terrorize the populace, subjugate them to his will. Seeing so many souls coexisting with each other was what interested him, and he had no wish to disturb that balance. Durnehviir remained where he was, unseen and unheard, enjoying the sights below and the quiet that only one who was able to reach these heights could possibly know.

Doctor Eggman
© Jessica // CURRENTLY Offline

The city of Neo Domino was one of the places in the Goddess' World that Doctor Eggman had to be more cautious about when bringing his fleet near it. It and the Citadel, more or less. Their technology was more advanced than most of the other places in the world. They would be more likely to detect the large fleet of airships that he traveled around with.

For that reasoning, Eggman didn't bring his fleet into the city for his latest trek. Instead, he simply rode in his Eggmobile.

Eggman often took trips into various location to learn news and information that could be beneficial to him. He also had scout robots who did the same tasks, but sometimes it was better to learn things for himself.

And, the Goddess' newest game had simply begun, and he wasn't planning on helping out. Not yet anyways. His own task wasn't there yet, so it was quite easy for him to simply ignore it for now until it was time for him to actually do something.

He was heading downward out of the clouds when he noticed something.

A dragon.

"Durnehviir?" he muttered, leaning forward to look at the dragon on the roof. It did look... rather undead.

Durnehviir sensed the human soul before he saw the person it belonged to. He was someone that the dragon was familiar with and unlike others on this planet, he had no issue with him. Villain he may be to some, Durnehviir found Doctor Eggman to be a rather interesting companion. He was just one of the many quirky characters who made this world less dreary.

Not that Durnehviir could ever find this world dreary. It was a vast improvement over the Soul Cairn.

The dragon lifted his head, drool dripping from his jaws. The doctor was still just a small speck in the dark, but Durnehviir could see him clearly. "Good evening, doctor," his deep voice rumbled, loud enough for anyone nearby to hear him, yet not enough for the crowds below to glance up this way. "Not many would risk flying at night."

Many flying creatures hunted at night. Time had little meaning to dragons, so they often hunted at night as well. That was when many mortals became much more careless.

The doctor, however, was not a careless person. Neither was he easy prey.

Ah, so it was Durnehviir. Eggman was able to tell by the way his voice boomed towards him, even though they were still some distance away from each other. It was interesting how he was able to make his voice carry so far so Eggman was able to hear it. Eggman didn't want to have to shout and draw attention to himself, even if Durnehviir was already doing that.

He waited until he was in distance before he said, "Evening, Durnehviir." He hovered his Eggmobile right in front of the dragon's face, patting the control system in front of him. "You don't have to worry about it being dangerous at night. I have enough firepower to deal with pretty much anything flying these skies these days." And, that was, of course, if whatever was attacking him as capable of making it through his shield that he could have pop up almost immediately.

"And, what might you be doing here in Neo Domino this fine evening?" he asked.

What was an undead dragon doing in the middle of the largest most advanced city that the Goddess had bothered to bring to this world? Probably just perching, but it was always interesting to know what it was that others were thinking. Eggman liked having information - information that could potentially be useful to him.

This probably wasn't, but he still wanted to know.

Was that so? The doctor was certainly confident in his technology. Durnehviir assumed as much - he had seen what this human was capable of, given the time and resources. If the Goddess allowed it, Doctor Eggman probably had a good shot at taking over the Western Continent.

Although he did not try to, likely because it was too much of a risk. Mostly the doctor kept to himself. And away from all those people who were attempting to capture him for a bounty. It would be what Durnehviir would have done, if he was one of the most wanted mortals on the planet.

"This city is one of my usual stops... although only at night, under the cover of darkness." Surely, the doctor would understand the reason. "There are so many joorre here. I enjoy watching them go about their daily lives, as if nothing is amiss." As if Neo Domino had not been ripped from its world, there was no danger for them to face, and there was no undead dragon spying on them from above, capable of devouring all of their souls if he chose to.

Doctor Eggman nodded along with Durnehviir's words. He could imagine that the undead dragon would enjoy watching the simple-minded humans who made up the majority of the population of the city below. Most humans overall were rather simple-minded, even if they thought themselves as intelligent. The fact was, they weren't. Most people weren't. You had to be close to Eggman's IQ to really be intelligent. Maybe they were intelligent in a stupid sort of way, as in better than most of the other idiots running around.

That wasn't saying a lot.

But, formalities were out of the way, so it was time for Eggman to ask what he always asked of those he knew and were on better terms with in this world. Sure, their company could be enjoyable, he guessed, but it was better to have "friends" who were useful to him than friends who were nice to talk to.

"Have you heard of anything of interesting lately?" he said, reaching up and stroking at his bushy mustache. "As in, anything that could provide something useful in my... research."

Durnehviir would see through that, most likely. It wasn't a facade on him, anyways. It was for any listening ears that would move too fast for Eggman to shoot.

What news did Durnehviir have to share? The dragon was able to hear plenty - he was constantly roaming the planet, never staying in one place for too long. Most mortals did not like it if he lingered in their area for too long - they thought that he might be plotting something.

Foolishness. Dragons did not sit around plotting. Their plots were already made when they entered a target area. If they were to attack, then they wasted no time in attacking.

Anyway, he did linger long enough to hear both news and rumors. The most widely talked about topic these days was the Goddess' new game, but Durnehviir was certain that the doctor already knew about that. What the man wanted, of course, was something that could benefit him and his plans.

"I have indeed heard of something that may be of interest to you." Durnehviir, at least, found it interesting. "In the refuse of Neo Domino and Santa Destroy, many mangled corpses have been unearthed from the filth. Not of flesh and bone, but of cables and steel." Dead and broken robots, and a lot of them. The humans working at the junkyards and dumps were shocked at this discovery, for many robots currently living on this planet were essentially like people.

"All have been disabled in the same brutal fashion." In Skyrim, the mortals would call this the work of a serial killer. Durnehviir thought it could very well be the same here.

Oh? There was some information that Durnehviir could offer up that might be of use for Eggman? He floated himself closer to the undead dragon, and he even turned on his device recorders so he would be able to play back the explanation later and make sure that he got it perfectly. He didn't want to miss any of the details. They could be important to however he used this information.

As Durnehviir explained what he had heard, Eggman developed a large frown on his face. This was not the type of thing he had been expecting. A robot serial killer. Eggman didn't like the sound of that. He was a master robot builder - all the best built robots on this world had come from his lab, of course, as there wasn't anyone else with his high IQ to be able to accomplish the same things, as well as him having the strongest material in the world to build robots, as gifted by the Goddess so there was no one else who could have such a material - and he didn't want something going around thinking they could off his robots.

Because they couldn't. All his perfect creations hadn't been unleashed on the world, not since he had taken what he had wanted during the time they had laid Neo Domino under siege. No one else would have been able to pull off something like that.

He also knew a few robots who were decent and he didn't want them to be affected by this. Why yes, Eggman had a large heart as well. Large mind, large heart. That was how it worked. It was a shame that so few people in this world could get to that level in this life. It was a hard thing, sometimes, being the smartest person in this world.

"Any ideas how many victims there's been and where it likes to hang out?" Eggman asked, sounding casual. He needed this sort of information. Just in case.

"Twenty-six in Santa Destroy. Forty-nine in Neo Domino." Quite the numbers for a serial killer. Perhaps there was more than one, killing and mangling the robots in the exact same way. One also had to consider the types of robots that became victims. "Many are mindless, designed to only fulfill the purposes given to them by their creators. Still, some victims are those who have minds of their own. Cyborgs. Androids. Reploids."

Even for a creature who easily spoke more than one language, the terms felt foreign on his tongue.

"I have not heard of where this killer hides when not stalking prey," Durnehviir added, shifting his weight a little. The slime that he was coated with had dripped onto the building, sliding down the flat surfaces on its way to the ground. It may not reach that far - they were quite high up. "As I have said, the corpses are normally hidden within those areas where the joorre like to dispose of their broken machines." Undignified places for the dead, although Durnehviir had heard of worse.

There was always somewhere worse.

Doctor Eggman definitely found this troubling. That was something that would affect him, if someone was trying to target robots. Eggman had a lot of robots. He could easily become a target if someone thought that they wanted to deal with the big boys in that department.

Of course, there was only one solution to this. Eggman was going to have to deal with them himself.

"Thank you for that information," Eggman said, turning off his recorder. He had gotten what he wanted - information on something that was relevant to him. "If you hear anything else on the matter, feel free to swoop in on my airship and let me know."

He wasn't going to shoot Durnehviir down. He probably couldn't, anyways. At one time in his life, Eggman would have tried it anyways, but he had been in this world pretty much since it had first formed and he had grown to know better. There were many things here that didn't work the way they would have back home. Shooting at dragons was one of them, especially if that other dragon was an undead one.

Eggman knew he was going to need plans to deal with this; he would figure that out when he got home.

"Anything else of interest?" Eggman asked, though he was only mildly interested in anything else. He doubted Durnehviir knew anything else that would be of use to him.

"Of course." Doctor Eggman was one of the few souls who would not only willingly approach Durnehviir, but speak to him. The undead dragon believed in civility, even while others of his kind went on rampages and tried to burn down whatever they could, hunting even defenseless victims. If the doctor said he was allowed to seek his airship and land there, then it would be an insult to not do so.

Durnehviir would seek out the fleet if he heard more of this matter. The doctor could be sure of that.

"I am afraid that little else may be of interest to you." It was difficult to top the serial killer of robots, especially since he was speaking to a scientist in the field of robotics. "There are changes in trade patterns within the Archipelago. Sightings of vampires in Briggs." The latter, at least, was of interest to Durnehviir - he knew just where to hunt next.

"Everything else involves the celebrations our host is currently holding." Trivial details to those who were currently not taking part. The doctor likely knew about most of those details already, since he was one of the Goddess' chosen. As much as he liked conversation, Durnehviir would spare the human from pointless gossip.

There wasn't anything else from Durnehviir that was of interest to Eggman. That was only to be expected, really. He doubted there was a whole lot going on in this world with the people who milled below him that was of any interest to him. Most of the things they dealt with were beneath him. He had more important things to worry about than their insignificant little grievances.

Durnehviir did mention the current events, which were of an interest to him.

"Yes, I have my own key that I have for one of those," Eggman said. The key wasn't on him, but stashed for safekeeping on his lead airship. No one was going to be able to take it from him. It was his until he used it to help save the world - which he was only helping save (once again because he was superior to most of the Neanderthals on this world who couldn't do shit to save themselves) because he needed to take it over, eventually.

He was one of the Goddess' champion from the Calamity days. He was sure she wouldn't mind if he was king of the world.

"I haven't been keeping up with it much," he admitted with a lofty shrug. "I only care about my own chest, wherever that may be. If these people can't even deal with that on their own..." Eggman snorted.

Durnehviir understood. Finding keys and the chests that were to be unlocked with those keys seemed like such a simple task, only made difficult by whatever circumstances the Goddess had chosen for the challenge. And she, as far as the dragon was aware, never made things impossible. Difficult, sometimes, but she had always given the populace some way to overcome her challenges.

Perhaps the average citizen would not imagine themselves able to complete such a task, but there were more than enough capable beings on this planet to do so in their stead.

"I may fly to observe these challenges," he replied. "As for choosing to take an active part in this... we shall see." So far, he saw no reason to intervene for the sake of the world, and he was also limited by his physical form. No dovah would agree to squeeze into a building or other small space they could not move easily in. While many of the challenges would take place in larger, more open spaces, the residents of this world seemed to be doing fine without his help.

The doctor didn't care too much about what sort of challenges the Goddess had been imposing on anyone else other than him. He seriously doubted that she was going to do something like kill them all when the anniversary to the world's creation was just around the corner. She had spent too much time and put too much effort into tormenting them - them being the lesser people that didn't include Eggman, as he was far superior to them.

But, he wasn't even worried about his own challenge. He was one of the Calamity Victors. That made him a favourite. She wouldn't want to kill him, not anymore than the fools who could be as good as fodder to her games.

Eggman did, though, attempt to imagine Durnehviir taking part in any of the challenges for this new year game of hers. As he was far too big to fit into any of the buildings, the very image was amusing to him and he chuckled out loud.

"If any of them prove to be interesting, let me know," Eggman said, conversationally. In truth, he wanted to know just what he might have been up against, but he also wanted to know just who was doing the winning. It could be useful information to him in the future.

From the doctor's chuckle, Durnehviir knew what he was thinking about. If the dragon had been capable of smiling, he would. Yes, any image of a dragon trying to fit into a spot they were not meant for was amusing. As superior as they were, his kind was rather clumsy on the ground and in narrow spaces. It was not something he liked admitting, but it was fact.

Qahnaarin took full advantage of this during their first encounter. Durnehviir could remember how the Nord smacked him in the face whenever he landed before him, as well as how annoying it felt.

"I shall." If he discovered anything that would be of interest, he would fly to the doctor's ship and tell him. It was the least he could do for someone who was willing to hold conversations with him. A favor received was a favor returned. Durnehviir refused to be someone who expected things to be given to him freely. That was the reason why dragons ended up being shot at whenever they approached people - dragons always wanted to take, usually with violence.
