Finding trouble first thing in a new world really wasn’t something she tended to be in habit of, unless said trouble was DES. Sayaka certainly didn’t expect to be attacked as soon as she got her bearing and stepped on the road. The creatures that tried to overwhelm her were not something she ever encountered, however. Once she was able to think straight, she realized she wasn’t anywhere she knew about.

The creatures fled as soon as they discovered she wasn’t an easy prey, but Sayaka didn’t know what else lurked in this place. She did realize she wasn’t anywhere she knew about, though. Pausing to catch her breath, she also took a moment to change her clothes from her practice ones to a more comfortable grey uniform with a flick of her device. Her hand slid back to the hilt of her micsaber as she took a better look around.

She seemed to be underground. The road in front of her was enough to tip off she wasn’t anywhere familiar. It wasn’t Akibastar, it wasn’t any of the planets she visited in all her time with 00, and it certainly wasn’t anything close to what Yuko described of her own dimensional trip.

Sayaka kept walking, listening to the cadence of her footsteps and intently watching her surroundings, hoping she’ll be able to spot movement before the place’s potential inhabitants spotted her first. Somehow, she doubted a song would work this time around. She wasn’t about to get jumped again if she could help it, either.

She had questions. Those questions wouldn’t be answered if she stayed where she was, so the only choice was to keep walking and consider what she could do about this. There were two parts to it, really. First, find civilization. Second, plan according to what she would find.

As she pondered how doable it was, a rustling from her right was enough for her to spin facing that direction, micsaber drawn but off, eyes studying the darkness.

“Who’s here?” She demanded.

Sayaka was still wound up from the unexpected trip and the “welcome” so far. She supposed she’d be forgiven skipping on pleasantries for the time being.

Mayuyu was looking for Dylas.

Roughly seven months ago, she had been the first of the AKB0048 to be taken to the Goddess' World. She didn't know anything about it. At the time, there hadn't been any mention of people being whisked away to another dimension - especially one that was so separated from the others by the Goddess' magic that leaving it was an impossibility - at all, but maybe that had only been because space travel was something prominent in her world and there were so many places a person could disappear off to. But, she had awoken here alone, and the first person she had met was Dylas. Since then, they had been friends and traveling companions, and he even helped her find Acchan when she had been so unceremoniously dropped into this world.

They had separated for a time while she traveled with Acchan and Kojiharu, but now it was time to find her friend again. She just didn't know where he could be. Unlike her, Dylas was not from such a technologically advanced world, and he didn't run around with cell phones or tablets on him. Contacting him when they weren't together was a difficult job.

But, Dylas was also powerful. While she liked that he could essentially turn into an unicorn, Dylas also came with powerful magic, unlike anything from her own world. That was why she thought checking the Deep Roads would be an alright idea. He wouldn't be in trouble here.

The Deep Roads ran through the underground of the Western Continent, so Mayuyu knew there would be a lot of space to check. She didn't think he was foolish enough to spend the night, so she she knew she could go back to the surface through any gate if she needed to go take a nap. Sleeping in the Deep Roads was... not smart.

Mayuyu walked, wearing a clip-on flashlight that helped light her way. The missile launcher in her arm was already out and ready, just in case any of the pesky darkspawn thought to bother her. So far, none of them did.

She did, however, hear a voice. She approached it, cautiously. The voice was familiar to her, but she needed to make sure it was who she thought it was. There were so many tricks in this world that she would have never experienced at home that she always needed to be on her toes.

Turning the corner, she saw someone who she thought the voice belonged to but wasn't expecting. "Sayaka?" she asked. Her voice didn't sound overtly surprised, but it never did.

Sayaka paused, surprised. Of course she expected to find others, she just didn’t expect for it to happen so soon, if that was the case. The voice sounded familiar, but one couldn’t be too careful in this setting. Yuko’s stories and her earlier attack were enough to have her on alert. Still, this was somewhat surprising.

“Mayuyu?” She asked, tilting her head to the side and slightly relaxing her stance. Surprise colored her words as she spoke. “What are you doing here? Wherever this here is.”

She paused, wondering whether it was her friend or if she ran into some sort of illusion in this place she was not familiar with. She needed to figure out which one it was. What could she add that both of them would know but illusions in this world would unlikely be able to pick up on things those her friend would know.

“To ensure we are who we guess we are,” she hummed as confusion in her voice bled into amusement. “What’s Mariko’s name these days?”

The question she started with was an easy one - both she and Mayu were present for that. Sure, it could be easily pulled if this wasn’t who she thought it was, but Sayaka doubted it. Then again, there was just too much she didn't know what to expect here.

She supposed she would find out if her guess was correct as soon as the other girl spoke next.

Mayuyu to rush to Sayaka to pick her up and swing her around, which was something she had done when she first seen the others. It wasn't because she wasn't glad to see Sayaka, because she was. The two had been friends for a long time and she really liked Sayaka, just like she liked her other friends in the 0048. But, Sayaka was the warrior of the team, if they ever had one, and was thus always on alert. If there was someone who was going to swing at her to make sure she was real, it was going to be Sayaka. And, if there was someone who could hurt Sayaka by accident, it was probably Mayuyu since she was built a little tougher than average.

She would rather neither one of them hit each other if they weren't sparring for combat practice.

Mayuyu got a little closer so they were more visible to each other. She wanted Sayaka to be able to see it was her since the Deep Roads had such poor lightning.

"Mariko?" she asked, reaching up to tug on her lower lip. Her voice was monotonous as she spoke, unlike the one she used around strangers. "I've known more than one. Do you mean Mariko the 7th? If so, we call her Tsubasa now. She's our manager. Otherwise, you must mean Mariko the 8th. And, she's just... Mariko." She knew what Mariko the 8th's name was - Mimori, of course - but she never called her that. Not anymore. She was just Mariko nowadays.

She understood why Sayaka was asking her questions, though. She had no issues with that. It was just like her.

"Mayuyu can answer your questions on the other things too," she added. "Maybe. Some of them are... difficult." She lowered her hand to rub at her stomach. "I don't suppose you happen to have brought snacks with you." That was something she had forgotten to do when she came down here - bring snacks.

Sayaka couldn't help a chuckle at the question. She didn’t quite expect that answer, but the follow up to it was definitely Mayuyu - her speech pattern was very unique and, as such, quite easy to identify.

The request for a snack only helped the matters.

“Good answer,” she decided, attaching the micsaber back to her uniform’s belt and flicking through her storage device. “Sorry. Just the one that should tide you over till nearest civilization point. I hope it’s not far.”

The way things unfolded so far, Sayaka was starting to think that this world was going to be full of the unexpected. If anything, her good friend’s appetite was a most reassuring constant.

“Here,” she added, pulling the other girl into an impromptu hug and slipping the pack in question into Mayuyu's hand. “It’s good to see you again.”

At least one of them was all right. For Sayaka, who haven't seen the rest just yet, a familiar face in an unfamiliar world was a relief.

Mayuyu was glad that her answer was sufficient to Sayaka. She knew Sayaka would be the one to question her this way, but she hadn't really prepared any answers for such a time. The way the Goddess pulled people into this world had no rhyme or reason that it was really hard to prepare for anything. When she had come here, she didn't need to wait more than a week for Acchan, but lots of time had passed in between for Kojiharu to come. She hadn't expected to see anyone any time soon.

But, here Sayaka was. Right in front of her and giving her a hug.

Mayuyu wrapped her arms Sayaka. It was so nice to give Sayaka a hug after all this time. The other girl was bigger than her and she was pretty strong, so it felt like she was being enveloped in a bit of a bear hug. Not that she would call Sayaka a bear, though if someone in AKB0048 was comparable to a bear it might have been Sayaka.

When she released the hug, she glanced around at the Deep Roads, ripping open the pack and taking a bite.

"The Deep Roads are a maze," she said, looking back at Sayaka. "You woke in a bad spot. It covers pretty much the length of a country." And, if one didn't know where they were going, they could be stuck down here for a long time. Add the darkspawn in, and being down here was awful. "But, there's several ways to the surface. Mayuyu came in through the one near Neo Domino City."

It wasn't too far, but she still hadn't done what she wanted to. "Before we go, help Mayuyu search for her pony." She needed to find Dylas.

The Deep Roads, huh?

Sayaka could almost hear the capitals in Mayuyu’s voice as she spoke, so she made a mental note to the name of the place. The fact that it was a maze didn't add points in the place's favor. She wasn’t here even a minute and she got jumped by creatures she hadn’t seen before. If she stuck around longer, Sayaka bet they’d return in bigger numbers.

Those were the numbers she wasn’t sure she could handle.

“Trust me, I know this spot’s bad for a nap. I could use the nearest exit,” she said firmly. “Not only that ration pack won’t last you long enough, I’m in no way prepared for more creature encounters. Two of us might be enough against small groups, but what if they come in packs larger than we can handle?”

Sayaka's hand fell back to her micsaber as she spoke. She wasn’t about to relax now, though the hug was comforting while it lasted. It was something familiar in entirely unfamiliar world.

Mayu’s next words, though, made Sayaka stare. She had been making mental notes while the other spoke, but this one made her backtrack.

“Wait up...” she raised her free hand, smiling apologetically. “Start from the beginning, please. You’ve lost me as far back as Neo Domino City, never mind the pony. I'm going to assume that the darkspawn are the creatures that attacked me earlier and go on to other information.”

Ah, Sayaka wanted more information. Mayuyu wasn't surprised. She sometimes forgot that she would have a tendency to cut corners when talking. She wasn't always the most social of people and giving big, long explanations about things wasn't something she particularly enjoyed. She also didn't have to explain the Goddess' World to anyone since she ran into Acchan months ago. Most people she interacted with already had an idea what was going on.

She started with the easiest thing to explain. "Neo Domino is a city not too far from here. It's kind of like Akibastar." If Akibastar had street ways made for duel monsters. But, Neo Domino was the most technologically advanced city on this side of the ocean, maybe only second to the Citadel itself. It would be the most familiar to them.

"The darkspawn are those goblin creatures that run around here," Mayuyu said, indicating the walls around them. "Genlocks are the short fat ones. Hurlocks are the taller human shaped ones. There's also shades and ogres, but Mayuyu hasn't seen many of them." In comparison to the other two, shades and ogres were far rarer and didn't tend to travel in packs. There was also something called a broodmother, which Mayuyu had never seen before. She had been told they were deep down in the tunnels, and she wasn't ever going t go that far.

"Darkspawn think they're sneaky but they're not," Mayuyu continued. "They're easy enough to avoid if you listen." She tapped her ear. Her ears were a bit better for such things like listening to noises, and not just because she was a singer. "Mayuyu avoids them all the time easily while she's here." She paused before adding," The most important thing is to not touch them too much. They're gross." They were tainted and that could kill. Only a specific group of people could survive it, or so she heard.

"Mayuyu can take you to an exit if you want, Sayaka. You can rest there. But, I'm going to have to make sure Dylas isn't here." She did call him a pony - which he was, to her, in a way - but he was also a person. "He's my friend, and I haven't seen him in a bit. I've been looking for him. He might be here." Dylas wasn't the one to go looking for trouble, but if something happened with his powers, she didn't know where he might run off to when he couldn't control himself.

Sayaka relaxed slightly at the explanation, just enough to show that some things were now making sense. One of them was needing to be careful to avoid danger, though it was a bit concerning to hear that the other idol was down here often enough to figure out that she needed to stay quiet and hidden to avoid these creatures. The other was helping a friend who might be in need and hadn’t been seen for what looked like a long time.

Listening to avoid things made sense, so she paused a bit before speaking again to do just that. While she might not be as good as her friend in listening department, she was good enough to rise up their ranks, so that had to count for something. However, it seemed that for now, they were alone, and she trusted Mayuyu to let her know if that changed.

“Kind of like Akibastar, huh?” She mused. “Guess I’ll end up there sooner or later. As for those creatures... I’m pretty sure they were genlocks.” trying to recall them, Sayaka brushed off non-existent dust from her grey skirt and pulled out her own penlight, attaching it to her sleeve. “They ran off too fast and I wasn’t interested in a biology lesson,” she quipped.

She was more interested in staying alive than figuring out the creatures’ visual features, and she didn’t have a camera. That interest, though, conflicted with the other one. She was all for leaving the dark and, now she could smell it, rank place, Sayaka also wasn’t against waiting for others while they looked for friends. Of course, in Mayuyu’s case, that one still made no sense. She figured if she stuck around, some of it might.

That was, provided said friend was indeed here.

“I’m good,” she shrugged it off. “I’m more worried about you and I doubt this would be the first port of call for anyone... but lead the way. One thing I don’t want to know is how exactly you know how large this place is and what inhabits it.”

That, of course, was Sayaka’s protective instinct playing up, though she softened her words up with a teasing tone. She wasn’t about to let one of her teammates wander off in a place that wasn’t all that friendly from what she saw of it so far.

Ah, Sayaka was going to come along with her then. That made Mayuyu happy. She didn't like bringing some of the younger members with her, especially since they weren't as durable as she was, but Sayaka would be alright. She was strong and she knew how to defend herself.

"Acchan, Kojiharu and Mayuyu are staying in Neo Domino City right now," Mayuyu said. "Sayaka should live with us." It was the most comfortable city for them to stay in, so it was where they decided to stay. Dylas lived with them too since he and Mayuyu were steadfast companions nowadays. Sayaka would just need to get used to it.

"We can skirt around the outer paths," Mayuyu said, confidently. She knew they would be fine. "It's when you go deep into the tunnels that the darkspawn get really bad." She didn't quite remember all the details, but she did hear about how the darkspawn operated. Normally, they weren't so organized unless there was something called an Archdemon around. There wasn't an Archdemon in the Goddess' World, as far as Mayuyu was aware of. The last one had been defeated.

Or something. She wasn't up on her history.

"Mayuyu knows because we know there's entrances all around the Western Continent," Mayuyu added. Mayuyu had been here long enough and it was one of those things that most people in the world knew. It was just common knowledge nowadays. "Some people have tried to map it out. It's not complete, though. It's okay if you stay around the higher levels. Don't go deep down. The bad things are deep down. They don't like coming up to the surface most of the time." Darkspawn were weird things to try and comprehend sometimes, but figuring out their patterns was easy enough.

Again, something that people in this world needed to learn for survival.

Mayuyu started back down the pathway through the Deep Roads. There weren't any darkspawn around immediately and she didn't hear them, but she knew there were genlocks nearby. She was sure they were going to be alright, though. They might have been darkspawn, but that didn't make them immune to a good ol' punch to the head.

Atsuko and Kojiharu were also here? Sayaka had wondered about the other missing idols, but hearing that made her sigh in relief. That was all of them accounted for, in a manner of speaking, even if it might be a while before they reconnected. Sayaka, for one, wasn’t sure where she’d end up next, though Mayuyu’s suggestion sounded tempting.

“It’ll be almost like old times,” she grinned at the suggestion. “Only instead of the dorm, we’ll be just in the city when we’re not exploring the world or looking for the way back.”

She wasn’t against the idea of having a place to stay in, if anything, she needed something like it. The trouble was with the location. Sayaka didn’t particularly like the feeling of being misplaced into another world, and it troubled her somewhat that Mayuyu seemed to be so... accepting of that. So aware of things that could go bump in dangerous places like this one.

Perhaps, sometimes, people adjusted to things.

Taking in information Mayuyu was giving her as she followed the other girl, Sayaka wondered if she’d be able to do the same should she actually need to do so.

“Don’t go into the deep tunnels if you don’t want to get in trouble, got it,” she hummed curiously, making a mental note. “Someone’s actually mapping this place?”

That sounded interesting and actually, like something she might be interested doing herself. She was planning on traveling, after all. As such, putting her time to something that would possibly benefit everyone else sounded like a good idea.

Sayaka seemed perturbed about the situation with the world. Mayuyu wasn't surprised about that. As amazing as Mayuyu thought their home world was, it wasn't fantastical in the same sense or scale as some of the other worlds that the Goddess deemed to disturb. So many things here were unlike anything they could imagine back home. At first, it had been a lot to take in. Mayuyu had coped the best she could. It was easier because she befriended Dylas and had someone with her. Finding Acchan and Kojiharu made it even more so.

Mayuyu knew Sayaka would learn to adapt like they did. It was almost like having a bunch of things blasted at you at once. Once you were saw it all enough, you grew used to it. Otherwise, life would be really hard for you.

"Don't bother looking for the way back," Mayuyu chimed. "Mayuyu wants to say I'm hopeful, but I've been here long enough to know it's not going to happen unless the Goddess wants it to happen." This place had existed for five months already by the time she even showed up. And, she had lived here for nearly seven. There had been no breakthroughs on a way home. No one had ever left here. Once you came, you were stuck.

It was all just one of the many things someone needed to learn once they got here. Mayuyu was glad, though, that she had arrived before her sisters. She had gotten to learn all this before they came, so she was able to relate it to them, like she was doing to Sayaka now.

"It's not so bad," she continued. "Acchan, Kojiharu and Mayuyu decided we're going to try and hold shows. We had one in Dunwall recently." It was just the three of them, so it wasn't anything magnificent, but Mayuyu thought it was the least they could do. Everyone needed to pitch into this world, right? And, they were idols, so they needed to do what idols did best.

"The map's on the internet," she added. The path split up, and she eenie-meenie-miny-mo'ed it, knowing both lead off but came back together after a couple minutes walk. She took the left path. "The internet here's weird. It doesn't connect to the one back home. It's like the Goddess made a whole new one." Which was interesting, but Mayuyu assumed it was because all the worlds had separate ones and it would not only be too complicated to make them mesh, but it would also mean people having contact back home. She would never allow that, of course.

Sayaka wrinkled her nose at her friend’s words and hoped it wasn’t too noticeable in the dark. She didn’t particularly like the idea of being stuck in this world thanks to the will of some being she couldn’t even see, but she supposed it was no different than 00’s being led by Sensei-Sensei... they didn’t know what he was, either, and if that was even a he, so it seemed she was more used to puzzles like this than she expected.

She supposed that wasn’t that different here.

“You need to stay hopeful,” she lightly flicked at the other girl’s hair. “If we lose hope, we lose our place. For now, this seems like an interesting universe for an... indefinite visit.”

And what wasn’t weird in this place? So far, as she followed Mayuyu down the path, Sayaka saw enough weird things to conclude that it definitely wasn’t their world. Luckily, she was somewhat used having odd things thrown at her. Smirking at the method chosen to pick a tunnel, she flicked on her phone and fiddled with the device, adapting to new settings and muttering under her breath.

It did, indeed, work, but... it was not familiar. She frowned, studying the settings, then pulling the map in question after a few more attempts at doing so. “Shows’re a good idea,” she opined with a wink. “I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to lose to anyone, here or elsewhere, and we can’t play that game if we can’t perform. How did that go?”

She wasn’t about to stop their little competition just because they were temporarily in another world. They might be the closest of friends, but they were also rivals. If they could keep their little friendly competition, things’d be somewhat back to familiar ground, at least as far as she was concerned.
