Oh, gee... she sure was in a lot of trouble now.

Glasses askew, Carly hung upside-down from the ceiling of the foyer, tangled in a mix of spider webs and Christmas lights. Two ghosts were on either side of her, pushing her back and forth so she swung like a pendulum. She would've found it dizzying if she didn't have more pressing concerns, like the ghost that was setting up a bear trap right underneath her head.

There had been a time in her life where she would've been just shrieking if something this bad happened to her, but she lost that ability around a hour ago, after the whole incident in the kitchen with the utensils. So here she was, wrapped up like a present and her hair all frazzled, letting two ghosts swing her back and forth while another one seemed intent on beheading her.

"L-Look at it this way, Carly..." she mumbled to nobody but herself. "It couldn't possibly get any worse."

From somewhere else in the house, the sound of an axe ripping through a door reached her ears. "Oh."

All she could really do now was pray that her knight in shining armor would burst in on his D-Wheel, get her out of the mess she was in, then whisk her away from here. After burning the entire place down with his dragon.

Carly didn't even know where he currently was. But at least it was a nice thought.

The Goddess’ world was a fascinating one, from a scientific standpoint. The amount of energy needed to create this world and allow it to support life was possibly staggering – especially in the case of being able to withstand and keep such diverse and incompatible pieces of earth together. Kyubey was, naturally, impressed with the level of power and creativity for the creation of this world. That wouldn’t mean, of course, that he respected it.

He had, after all, been removed from his purpose, separated from the girls and what they were working on. The heat death of his own universe was likely imminent at this rate, but, he had faith that the amount of energy that Madoka would give off would be enough to at least postpone it until his return. It would be a shame to see her go, she had a lot of potential.

… He could only hope to find another just like her.

In the midst of all his wandering, Kyubey found himself staring up at an ominous, rather dreary looking building. It was overrun with ghosts, most likely, and curious as to how the afterlife worked in this world, Kyubey opted to sneak in. He was left alone for the most part, slinking in and out of view of the ghosts and moving his way through hallways and doors to inspect the building.

And that was when he discovered the interesting sight of two ghosts playing a game with a human girl, swinging her back and forth as if it were the greatest form of entertainment the ghosts had ever had. Kyubey hopped up to sit perfectly still on the banister of the overlooking balcony, his tail swinging about.

How did you get yourself in this situation?” Kyubey asked, looking for an explanation. “It’s reasonable to assume that you didn’t tie yourself up there. Not unless you had powers, but I’m not sure you have any. You’re not a Magical Girl. In fact, you seem perfectly normal as far as humans go.” His voice was transmitted via telepathy as it always was, the voice flat and yet strangely toned. The ghosts offered him no sense of attention, far too occupied with their games with the girl.

And here Kyubey was, deciding that it was an excellent situation to examine, like an experiment.

The next voice she heard didn't come from her knight in shining armor, or even one of the ghosts who were insistent on tormenting her. It was a... cat? Carly blinked. It kind of looked like a cat. Almost like a Duel Monster, actually. Or maybe a Pokemon? It spoke in telepathy and sounded weird, but that was the least of Carly's concerns right now.

"I... oh, geez. How should I say this?" Another loud sound was heard elsewhere in the house as whoever owned the axe took out another door. Or maybe that was a wall this time. She couldn't really tell. "T-This morning, I drew an unlucky card, and then I stumbled upon this place and... well..." Every time she drew a fortune with her deck, it always came true, whether it was good luck or bad. It wasn't that she was causing her luck to change like that; it was just that her fortune telling was that accurate.

Some days, though, she was probably just better off not knowing. Carly decided that maybe she should've just stayed home today.

Oh. She was one of those humans.

Humans, from Kyubey’s experience, were interesting and silly creatures. They believed in superstitions and faith, worshipping their Gods, believing in ghosts, vampires, and psychic powers… To Kyubey, there was explanations behind all their firm beliefs and superstition. But, also to Kyubey, he knew that they also had no basis of foundation aside from faith and second-hand stories. Powers, at least, could be granted to a Girl when she made a Contract. But all those other humans that said on the street and played their games for all to see? Merely a show put on for the masses, with greed and pride as their only foundation.

So, as she gave her rather mediocre and not quite explicit answer, Kyubey tilted his head at her, appearing quite sweet. Then he started talking. “Drawing a fortune doesn’t determine how you wound up hanging upside down on the chandelier. Humans are so interesting, how they hang their entire futures and fates on something as randomized as pulling cards from a shuffled deck.” He righted his head, pausing his tail for a moment. “I suppose I can determine that the ghosts did this to you, then. From my research back on Earth, Humans believed that ghosts were protective of what they had determined their property. This location seems to adhere to those rules. I suppose you merely trespassed.

He wondered what her… Potential was. He had yet to make any kind of Contract with a Girl during his stay on this pointless planet. Then again… perhaps it was better to wait until he found one as powerful as Madoka. “… And what exactly is your plan to get down? You won’t be able to hang there forever.

Well... yeah. Of course she was trespassing. She stumbled into this place, right? Pretty much the same thing in this context. Not that it was helping Carly much right now.

"I don't have one." The ghosts were still swinging her back and forth. She was completely tied up and after the scare in the kitchen, she had just stopped screaming, like she couldn't do it anymore. Huh. Maybe she was in shock. Would she even know that she was in shock? She had a thought that maybe this was the worst that things could get for her right now. That bear trap under her head was a problem and she was still concerned over whoever owned that axe she kept hearing, but it couldn't possibly get any worse now.

Maybe the ghosts would get bored of playing with her and let her go after a while. Or, they could just leave her to hang. Either seemed likely; from what Carly knew of these particular ghosts, they were kind of unpredictable. Who knows, maybe one of them would cut the rope and she would miss the bear trap because of... something. She wasn't sure if her luck would improve quickly enough to count on it.

Oh, humans. So pathetically dumb and uninspired.

Why this girl wasn't working on a plan to get down on her own, Kyubey didn't understand, but he supposed he could at least assist her. No point in there being needless and useless bloodshed. He wouldn't gain anything from her death, and he could at least benefit from her survival. Contract or no contract, it was easier to travel with a human than by himself, and he knew that. He could at least get her to bring him somewhere more helpful.

But first, he had to get her down, and she had no intent on at least helping. It certainly seemed to him that she had just gotten so overwhelmed by all the stimulation that she was going numb to it. Hmm. Humans and their emotions, so intriguing.

Kyubey's tail swished back and forth as he looked down at the beartrap that rested underneath the girl's head. He could jump down and nudge it out of the way, he supposed. There was also the possibility that he could bite down on the rope if he could get on the chandelier - an easy feat for him - but that would take calculations to make sure she didn't hit the trap in the first place from the resulting fall.

"Well, would you like to get down?" he ventured to ask. Some humans wouldn't mind the situation they were in, after all. Masochism was just as interesting as the rest of their species. "I could help. For a price."

Help? Help would be great, although something about the way the cat stated that there would be a price bothered Carly a little. It wasn't because he just sounded weird, nope. There was... something, like it was deep in her memory. Prices were bad.

But how else was she supposed to get down? Her hands were kind of tied here. "Um... sure? Help would be-"

She heard a window break and a small golden glow zipped towards her, knocking over the ghosts who had been pushing her back and forth. Carly had to gape when she saw who it was. "Hikari?" The sight of her was enough to snap the reporter out of her funk. How did she even... no, wait! This meant her luck was changing! "Hikari, help!" The tiny Fortune Fairy studied the spider webs and Christmas lights that had bound her Duelist, then poked at where it attached Carly to the ceiling with her staff.

It suddenly detached and Carly screamed as she fell... about two feet before Hikari started pulling her through the air with strength unimaginable for such a small Duel Monster. "H-How are you even - wait, where are we even going?" Hikari looked like she was straining from the weight, but she didn't say anything and pressed on, dragging Carly - still hanging upside-down - into the next room. After shaking off their surprise, the ghosts went to follow.
