She glided along what was left of Midgar's stretch of highway, too smoothly for footsteps. In the night sky, the moon shone down upon the ruins, casting them in a silver light.
Rosalina was on one of her nighttime excursions across the planet. She needed no sleep and she wasn't affected by an internal clock, so she was free to stay up as late as she wanted, or even all night if she found reason to. It was an interesting experience to see the world at night, when it was at its closest to the cosmos.
Many would say that the Goddess existed outside of the cosmos, bending it to her will. But perhaps, in a way, their host deity was simply another aspect of it, another phase in a cycle of endless cycles. Who could say for certain? Even her identity was a mystery to Rosalina.
She drifted along the trail of cracked asphalt, coming to a stop where the highway broke off abruptly, its pieces piled up down below. The ruined city stretched on for miles, yet it appeared overshadowed by the lights and activity coming from nearby Edge. Rosalina imagined what it might have looked like when it had still been alive, but there was not much left of Midgar now. Just a skeleton of what it once was, the odd creature or raider stealing through the shadows and picking at the bones for what little sustenance was left.
The woman remained at the highway's edge, as quiet as the ruins themselves, as her eyes turned towards Edge and she wondered. What would this world be like... if Midgar hadn't fallen?
