Once she was aware she was about to get some, Spheal paused so she was in a good position for being petted. She seemed quite pleased with Atem's petting, too. He must have had good petting technique! Jack didn't object to their interactions, as Atem didn't seem like the type to cause her any harm. If he tried, however, he would find himself soaked to the bone before he was able to react. That didn't seem like it was going to be an issue of any sort, though.

"They're wild animals in the world they come from," he replied. "More or less. Most can be found in the wild, and a trainer catches them like how I got Spheal. If they weren't wild before, it means the trainer probably hatched them from an egg." Which typically required Pokemon to begin with anyways. Black had told him before how some kids started with Pokemon who were the children of their parents' own Pokemon.

"There's different types as well," Jack continued. If he was this far in explaining Pokemon, he might as well add something so basic as that. "And, some have evolutions. Spheal's a water type and she's in her basic evolution level."

He was pretty sure he covered the basics of Pokemon. If Atem wanted more, he could open up a book.

Atem

"It sounds like quite the world," Atem commented. Back in his world - and Jack's, from the looks of it - people fought with Ka or Duel Monsters, but they lived in a separate realm entirely. On the other hand, Pokemon lived in the same world as the humans who took care of them. It must be an interesting place to live. To the people born there, it was a normal thing to live in a world with Pokemon, but Atem thought it would be neat to see it one day, even if the probability was highly unlikely.

Although, seeing as he was here now, world jumping wasn't as impossible as one might think.

Spheal apparently liked the attention he was giving her, so he continued petting her. Atem smiled for a moment before glancing back up at Jack. "You said a location from her world is here. Is it the same for yours?" Already, he had figured that just because someone was here, that didn't necessarily mean that a piece of their world was here as well.

Another reason why he asked was to make certain as to where Jack was really from. The same world as Atem, only in the future? Or a world that's separate, yet similar? Either way, if a place from there really was here, then he might have to make it his next stop after he left these ruins.

Spheal really seemed to like Atem. Or, at least she was really enjoying the petting that he was giving her. Either way, to Jack, that must mean that Atem was a good enough person. That was good enough for Jack, though if he did manage to try something, Jack wouldn't be afraid to use his monsters.

For now, though, he was relaxed. Or, as relaxed as one could be when they were in the slums here.

"My world?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. The question wasn't a surprise to him. It was one that was often brought up. People wanted to know what places had managed to make it to the Goddess' World, and if they were familiar with any of them. And, judging the the duel disk that Atem possessed, it was likely he might be familiar with the location that Jack was from.

"My home made it here as well," he said. While he was from Satellite, it and Neo Domino might as well be one and the same now. And, he did live in Neo Domino proper now, so it wasn't even a lie of any sort. "Neo Domino City." Duel capital of the world. At least, it was to him. And, now, in this world, it most definitely was.

Neo Domino City. While the "Neo" part was new to Atem, "Domino" wasn't.

"For a while, I lived in a place called Domino City." It was the home of his Partner and so, it had been Atem's home when he had neither his name nor his memories. The city was still like home to him, even though his time there had come and gone. There was nothing that said that someone couldn't have more than one home. The memories he had made there with his friends were among his fondest.

Atem hoped that they were doing well, and that they weren't in the same situation he currently was.

"It's a city far in the future of my time." In his current appearance, Atem didn't look like he had lived in Domino, regardless of when in the city's history one looked at. This was, as he had found out earlier, something he could easily fix if he needed to. "Certain circumstances had brought me there, to live and to Duel."

Jack frowned as Atem said where it was he came from. Domino City. It was very close to Neo Domino, and Jack knew that Neo Domino once didn't have the 'Neo' in its name. It had adopted it long before Jack was born, but it had once been a different city, in a way. Satellite was where the old city of Domino laid before Neo Domino built itself away from the slums.

That said something to Jack there, that his assumptions that his world and Atem's world were connected somehow. Maybe it was because of similarities but because they were separately not by space but by time. Jack wasn't sure if he knew of any other worlds that had quite that sort of connection. It was almost unsettling to know that the Goddess was pulling from other times, but wasn't that like how she was pulling out the dead, just on a more extreme scale?

"I'm from Domino City, in a manner of speaking," he said. "There's a place called Satellite, which was where the old Domino City was before Neo Domino formed near it." It wasn't the only such city in this world - Midgar-Edge had a similar concept - but Satellite had a much better fate to it. Nowadays, it wasn't the junky slum anymore but another part of the glowing city of Neo Domino.

Jack rubbed a hand over his face as he got off the junk he was sitting on. He knew Atem said something about the city being out of his time, which Jack took note of then.

"What do you mean?" he asked. Instinctively, he looked away at their surroundings but there was nothing there to bother them. "What circumstances?"

Atem

Neo Domino was what had become of Domino City, it seemed. So Jack was from Atem's future; that explained the vehicle he rode in on. It was in a different style to Yusei's, and yet there were clear similarities. He didn't ask why a new city had to be built by Domino; he had a guess. It was something he could confirm later.

Jack then asked about the circumstances that had brought Atem to Domino in the first place. The spirit listened to their surroundings for a moment. It was quiet, but not the same kind of quiet that gave one a feeling of being watched by something unseen. While he didn't think his history was something that should be explained to everyone, he sensed that Jack and his Spheal were both trustworthy. They had, in a way, made him feel welcome after being dropped into this strange and unfamiliar world.

Giving Spheal one final pat, he stood up and took a few steps away, purple eyes raising up to look at the church. After seeing the evidence of destruction that surrounded the building, the fact that it was still standing was almost miraculous. Of course, Duelists were used to miracles. The fact that he was now here might be considered one. "Once, in my kingdom... I sealed away a unspeakable evil by sacrificing my own life. For three-thousand years, my soul slept, only awakened when a boy from Domino City pieced together the artifact which housed it. He became my vessel."

His appearance shifted then - his skin tone, his attire. His DiaDhank was replaced by his Duel Disk, the one sure way to recognize anyone who lived and played the game. In this form, he was recognizable, at least to the people of Domino City's time. Yugi Mutou, the Duel King.

"I became his other self."

Jack listened to what Atem told him about his story as Spheal around onto the ground back to him. Jack easily scooped her up and tucked her under his arm where she nestled in. The story that Atem told was something that would have sounded far-fetched if someone had told him that a couple of years ago. Nowadays, it sounded plausible.

And, then Atem changed appearances. It wasn't like he shapeshifted into someone new because there was still traces of the same person there. But, Jack could now see what he meant about being from a different place and different time. It matched up with the story he had just described.

"I've heard weirder," was what he said out loud. "You'll fit right in here." Besides, very few people cared much about how your background worked here. There were small things that might caused people to turn heads - trying to cause the destruction of their home world was one of those things - but most people here seemed capable of putting that sort of thing behind them.

"I think it's time we start returning to Edge," Jack said. "You have some things you need to sort out." That was one of the biggest problems with coming here - finding a place to live and how to make a living. Jack didn't have that as an issue as his city came with him, but most others did. Atem might as well get started on it.

"Then that's a relief." Atem had to smile at that. He hadn't been sure if his supernatural state was going to be an issue. Seeing as he could physically interact with the world - as well as what had been generally going on with this world to begin with - it now didn't seem like it would be a problem, nor would it even be considered out of the norm.

Still, he may have to stick with the form he had taken while he had been living in Domino City for the most part. His true appearance wasn't one he could easily blend in with.

Reaching for the holster on his belt, Atem opened it and pulled out his deck. Taking those cards, he slid them into the opening of his Duel Disk, as he had done many times in the past. Aware that Edge was some distance from here, he needed some way to get there. The only way he could think of would be to summon one of his Monsters.

His three most powerful cards were missing, but he had rearranged his deck earlier to accommodate that. Flying around on Osiris would be a little too much, anyway. The Duel Disk shuffled his cards, but Atem willed the one he wanted to the top and drew it, not even looking at it as he placed it down on the device's surface.

Curse of Dragon appeared beside him. Atem climbed onto the creature.

"Lead the way," he said. The quicker they got to Edge, the quicker he could see to getting things sorted out. Then he could start experiencing this world for real.

So, it was time for them to go. Jack was glad about that. Being around all this waste sometimes reminded him on why he wanted out of Satellite in the first place. At least, Satellite was lived in, though. This place looked like it had been abandoned, even if there were still the occasional person skulking around in it.

None of that was important now because it was time to go.

He eyed up the monster that Atem had summoned. Curse of Dragon. It wasn't one that Jack seen too often, but it was one he was familiar with. He probably had one kicking around in his collection. When he had originally become the champion in Neo Domino City years ago, they had been quite adamant in buying him cards as often as possible and he never stopped them. At the time, he liked having more than anyone else.

Jack carried Spheal over to his D-Wheel. While picking his helmet up with one hand, he set Spheal down where she would be sitting in front of him, nestled against his legs so she wouldn't fall off. He stuffed his helmet on his head immediately afterward. Some people found helmets to be a nuisance to wear, but Jack found it like an extension of himself since he was so used to wearing them. Besides, a lot of these people failed to do one important thing, which was make the helmet comfortable to wear.

He climbed on behind Spheal and revved his D-Wheel to life. He didn't say anything else as he took off down the street, heading towards the tall buildings that signified where Edge was.
